One More Wish
The young girl sat alone in front of the small table. Her eyes focused only on the small flame. A cupcake with the words Happy Birthday written on to it was in front of her. She didn't remember when they first brought her here nor did she remember her name, yet they always gave her a cupcake on her birthday. Each year with one less candle than the year before. This year, there was only one candle left which meant only one more wish. She thought for a very long time before she realized what she could do. She had been in the same room for who knows how long, and all she wanted was to be free again. She glanced at the clock and saw it was one minutes til midnight. With her wish in mind, she blew out the last candle.
A jarred scream is what awoke her.
She slowly sat up and saw that the large metal door to her room was completely gone, as if it had been ripped from the frame. She grabbed her backpack and filled it with as much as she could before stepping out of her room. The hallways were painted in blood, and the screams of the workers still echoed in them.
She wandered aimlessly until she found the kitchen. Not what she was looking for, but she did need food. She filled her pack and continued looking for the exit.
After what seem like hours, she finally found a way out. A large hole was ripped into the outer wall, and she could feel the gentle breeze against her skin. Being very cautious, she took her first step into the real world.
She looked up at the night sky and knew that the years of containment were over. Her wish had come true and was waiting for her. She saw a path leading into the forest, and started to follow it.
The path lead to a small abandoned cabin. She opened the door, and found a that the house had food, clothes, and a bed ready for her. She went to the bathroom and for the first time in years, she saw what she looked like. Her bright red hair was matted, her porcelain skin was dulled from years of never seeing the sun, and her amber eyes were glazed over. She tested the tub to see if the water ran and it did. She ran herself a steaming bath and began to wash away years of filth. When she exited the tub and looked in the mirror again, the image had reversed. She looked as perfect the day they took her. She threw on a silk nightgown and went into the kitchen. She made herself a cup of tea and a sandwich.
She then went up to the bedroom and was shocked at what she found. A black wolf pup was sitting at the end of the bed. She carefully walked over to it and saw that it had something around it's neck.
She took it off and saw that it was a locket. Inside it, there was note.
It read "Happy 16th birthday, Asriel. I hope your wish came true."
She was in tears, the memories all started flooding back. She remembered who she was. She looked back at the pup, and thought as she climbed into bed "Yes, my wish did come true"
