Chapter 4: Witch fighting

"Now shall we be off on our very first stage of the magical girl/boy experience course." Mami said. "Are you three prepared?"

"Oh, yeah! Ready for anything!" Sayaka said and pulled out a bat. "I went and borrowed this from the gym!"

"Well I can't fault the enthusiasm..." Mami said.

Sayaka might be a little too excited for this... Well I'm curious about what it's like to be a magical girl/boy too but clearly not as much as Sayaka.

"And what did you two bring, Madoka and (Y/N)?"

"Eh!?" Madoka said. "Y-Yeah um...I thought up... Something like this!"

He then pulled out a notebook with a magical boy design. Mami and Sayaka laughing. Poor Madoka looks sad now.

"It's okay Madoka, I drew a magical girl design too, see?" I said showing him the design I drew in my sketchbook. (A/N: The outfit design you chose in the last chapter)

"You're drawing is amazing (Y/N)!" Madoka said.

"Thanks." I said. "I'm afraid that this and my medicine are the only things that I brought, I won't be of much use anyways."

"Don't worry (Y/N), I'll protect you!" Sayaka said with a huge smile on his face.

"Thanks Sayaka." I said.

"Now that our preparations are complete, shall we be off?" Mami asked.

"Yeah! Let's all get moving." Sayaka said.

Mami, Kyubey, Sayaka, Madoka, and I went to the same place we were yesterday and Mami took out his soul gem.

"...Take a look...at this soul gem." Mami said. "Do you see it glow? It's reacting to the witch we saw here yesterday."

Mami's soul gem started to glow.

"The most basic method is to use this reaction and change the witch." Mami said.

"Wow... That's actually pretty... Plain." Sayaka said.

The four of us (with Kyubey in my arms) started walking around town to look for a witch as Mami explained to us some things about witch hunting.

"Witches' curses mostly cause traffic accidents, incidents that create casualties and suicides. So the first places to check for them are ones where such things are likely to occur." Mami said as we continued to walk around. "Also, if a witch possesses a hospital where there are many people at a weakened state... Then the witch can suck out everyone's life energy. It can become a very bad situation, so you'd best beware."

"Hospitals..." Sayaka said to himself but it was loud enough for me to hear it.

I knew that he was thinking about Kyosuke when Mami said that. Unlike me, she's stuck in the hospital because of her arm.

Suddenly Mami's soul gem started glowing brighter.

"Somewhere close-!" Sayaka started to say only to be cut off by Mami.

"This way!" Mami said running off and the three of us followed him to an abandoned building. "An abandoned building... This is it!"

"Mami! There's somebody on the roof...!" Sayaka said, pointing to a lady standing on the edge of the roof.

"She can't be about to..." I started to say, only to witness the lady jump off the roof.

Mami quickly transformed and used his ribbons to catch the lady and safely place her on the ground. Mami then got closer to the lady.

"She's fine. She just passed out." Mami said before moving some of the lady's hair from her neck. "A witch's kiss, I knew it!"

"Kiss?" I asked.

"I'll fill you in later!" Mami said. "The witch is inside the building. Let's go and take it down!"

"Yes sir!" Sayaka, Madoka, and I said as we followed Mami inside the building.

As we were running, Mami stopped and touched the bat Sayaka was holding in one hand (Sayaka was holding my hand with his other hand.) and the bat started glowing.

"That should do it. It's really just for you're own peace of mind, but it should help protect you." Mami said. "When we get past the familiars, we'll be where the witch is. All right? Let's go! Come on, you three!"

The four of us ran through the labyrinth, with Mami shooting familiars and Sayaka hitting familiars with the bat while still holding my hand, until we got to the witch's location.

"...There it is." Mami said. "That is a witch."

The witch was huge and kind of looked like a rose bush with butterfly wings.

"That's grotesque..." Sayaka said.

"You fight that kind of thing...?" Madoka asked Mami.

"It's alright. I certainly won't lose." Mami said as he made his way over to the witch.

Mami started attacking the witch, using his guns to shoot at it, however the bullets missed the witch.

"Wait... Mami! You're not hitting it!" Sayaka said.

"Just keep watching." Mami said with a confident smile.

Suddenly, ribbons that came from the bullets that missed had wrapped around the witch, trapping it.

"Eh...? Magic from the bullets that missed!?" Madoka said.

"That's the way I fight!" Mami said. "I'm not going to let my future kohai see me shown up!!"

Mami then held a huge gun and pointed it at the witch.

"Trio...Finale!!!" Mami shouted as he fired the gun at the witch.

The witch was defeated, causing the building to return to normal.

"He won..." Sayaka said as the three of us stare at Mami.

That was amazing. If I can could fight witches like that then there would be a reason for my existence.

Mami then grabbed something from the ground and walked over to us, revealing the item he held in his hand.

"This is a grief seed." Mami said. "It's a witch's egg."

"E-Egg!?" The three of us shouted.

"Don't worry. It's harmless in this form. Actually, it's useful to us." Mami said. "Every now and then you find witches with several of them."

Mami then pulled out his soul gem.

"When a magical girl/boy fights, they use up their magical power." Mami said. "See? My soul gem seems a little muddier now, doesn't it?"

"You're right..." Madoka said.

"That's where this grief seed comes in handy." Mami said.

Mami placed the grief seed and his soul gem together.

"It sucks the muddiness out and returns my magic to it's original level!" Mami said as the grief seed cleaned his soul gem. "This is one of the rewards for defeating a witch."

I watched in amazement, I need to think about what I should wish for soon so I can be a magical girl.

Mami suddenly threw the grief seed into the shadows after cleaning his own soul gem.

"And since it looks like this grief seed can take another use, why don't I share it with you..." Mami said, looking in the direction he threw the grief seed in. "...Homura Akemi?"

Homura walked out of the shadows in silence. I wonder how long has he been standing there?

"Homura!?" I said surprised.

"There he is again!" Sayaka said, standing in front of me protectively with the bat in his hands.

"...Or is sharing something you abhor?" Mami said. "Perhaps you wanted it all to yourself?"

"I don't need it." Homura said, tossing the grief seed back to Mami. "That was you're prey. So just keep it all to yourself."

"Homura wait-!" I tried to call out but he walked away before I could finish.

My heart feels heavy, but it's a different feeling from the heart pain I usually feel.

"He always gets on my nerves." Sayaka said.

"I wish we could somehow become friends..." Madoka said.

"I do too. Homura doesn't seem that bad..." I said.

"That only works if it's what you both want." Mami said.

"Then I hope he wants to be friends one day too." I said with a small hopeful smile.

"That's nice of you (L/N)." Mami said, softly patting my head before untransforming. "Let's go check on the lady from earlier."

The four of us went back outside and Mami checked on the lady who had just woken up. Mami was comforting the lady as she was freaking out about her suicide attempt.

"That's one case solved... You think?" Sayaka said.

"Yeah." Madoka said. "Mami is so cool! He's really awesome!"

"I think so too!" I said.

"You're right. Incredibly cool." Sayaka said.

Mami is amazing. I'd like to be like him.

I'd like to be a magical girl.

(Time skip)

It's nighttime already, Sayaka had already dropped me off at home.

After taking a shower and putting on my (f/c) pajamas, I went outside to the balcony near my room for fresh air. It was okay since my (h/l) (h/c) hair was dry.

"I wonder what I should wish for?" I said to myself.

"Don't wish for anything."

(After nearly having a heart attack) I saw Homura somehow standing on the edge of the balcony without losing balance.

"Don't even think about becoming a magical girl, you'll regret it." Homura said before jumping of the edge of the balcony and walking closer to me. Then he softly placed his hand on my cheek. "I feel a connection with you somehow and I don't want you to go down the same path as everyone else had."

Before I could question him, Homura disappeared.

What the heck just happened?

To be continued.

A/N: This book has finally been updated! I haven't updated in a long while because:

1) My old phone completely died at some point so I couldn't use Wattpad. I have new one now.

2) I'm trying to update at least three stories at once.

3) School has been keeping me really busy, up to the point where I hardly get any sleep. (I was even told that I passed out during one of my classes...)

I can't promise a new chapter anytime soon but I'll try. Thank you for your patience with me.
