• Your Whisper •
Your whisper.
It came just like a ray of sun
sweeping golden paths
over the forests of my heart.
And day after day
I treaded those paths;
they did not fade.
Neither did they grow
with wild flowers and roses;
they remained the same
always so much the same.
Your whisper
was heard in the darkness
in a dream, "just speak to me."
But how shall I speak to you,
who know not who I am?
Your words, your plea
echoed back and forth;
for what could I do?
Though I knew you so well:
our walks along
dreamy mountains and valleys...
Never had you even heard my name.
I was a nobody to you.
Your whisper
grew ever louder;
no longer did it whisper.
So I finally spoke
just to silence the screams
that were in reality
so silent already.
I spoke, and you heard;
you wondered who I was.
A dialogue of four parts
seemed like the world to me;
for it was a revolution,
a dream dipping its toes
in my reality at last.
Your whisper
wasn't long to vanish;
it faded with my hopes of friendship.
No longer did you dwell
in my dreams of fantasy,
but in real life's wayside.
I wish I knew that your whisper
was not heard in reality;
it was but a touch of imagination
that brought you to life in my mind.
How much easier this would be
if you had listened to me speak;
I had only one thing left to say...
but you too soon walked away.
