Chopping up some candied fruit,

And playing board games

As we let the dough rise;

Soon to knead it again.

Pop it in the oven until it's just right:

Browned on top and fluffy like a pillow,

With little cubes of fruity flavour

Peeking out from within.

The intriguing bready smell

Fills the house entirely.

I leave the house and enter again

Just to smell it anew.

Glazing the tops with apricot jam

Finally adding an icing cross on top.

The time has come to crowd around

Grab a hot cross bun,

And taste the delicious sensations.

It can be guaranteed

That this batch won't last long!
