Chapter 5

[Reassurance]

Nya didn't spend a second more with the two girls and went out after Stacy stepped out of her way. A lot of thoughts ran through her mind as she walked away from the restrooms. She wouldn't have expected to see Stacy ever again. Then again, this was the best high school in all of Ninjago, and Stacy's always had the money to get whatever she wanted.

Although she told the others she'd be back in a bit, Nya didn't feel like she was in the right mind to just go back and act like nothing just happened. So she took another turn and walked right outside. She made her way up to the football field around the corner and sat down on the bleachers at the very top. No one else was in the view, so Nya thought she had some time for her alone.

Nya bent down and put her elbows on her knees and rested her head in her hands. Her gaze fell onto the freshly cut grass.

She was thinking. Thinking about what Stacy had just told her.

'I always get what I want.'

That was true, she had always gotten whatever she wanted all those years back. But now, she's made it clear that she set an eye on Nya's boyfriend.

Surely Jay wouldn't fall for any of her tricks... right? Right? Of course, Jay wouldn't. He loved Nya no matter what.

She sighed. She knew she had to get up and go back to the cafeteria so that her friends wouldn't catch on anything. She just had to stand up, walk back, look for the right words, and-

"Nya!"

Crap.

Nya quickly pulled her head away from her hands and turned it to her side to see her boyfriend running up to her through the many rows of the bleachers.

She, however, couldn't know why she did nothing but stand up. All she did was looking at him as he was climbing the bleachers towards her. It was as if she was shocked to see him, because that's how her facial expressions were.

When Jay was in the same row as her, he speed-walked over to her and hugged her. Startled, she hugged back.

"I was so worried, what are you doing here?" He asked as he let go to look for any physical injuries.

"I'm fine." She then realized Lloyd who was now standing next to Jay, in front of her. "Why are you here?"

"Nya, you've been gone for twenty minutes and we found you sitting here on your own. Are you sure you're fine?" Lloyd asked quite worriedly.

Nya then smiled. "Yeah, I'm fine. Seriously guys, you worry too much." She laughed lightly.

Lloyd and Jay shared one last worried look. "Okay, then what were you doing here? Weren't you supposed to go to the restroom and then come back?" Jay asked his girlfriend.

"Oh." She quickly thought about an excuse. "Yeah, I couldn't find it at first and then found this place and thought it would be a good thing to enjoy the view." She tried..?

Jay and Lloyd both raised an eyebrow at her. They didn't believe a thing. Nya saw their disbelief, so she herself gave them glares. However, they didn't break as she hoped.

She sighed, looking away. "Fine, I just needed to sort my thoughts." Then she looked at them again. "Happy?"

The boys then softened their faces, seeing the unease in her tone. Jay turned towards Lloyd. "Could I talk to her alone for a bit? And can you tell the others we found her?" He asked.

Lloyd nodded and walked away. Jay looked at Lloyd's disappearing body and when he was completely out of sight, he turned back to his girlfriend.

"What's wrong?" His tone was filled with worry.

Nya didn't want to look at him. "Jay, I'm fine. We can go back now." She attempted to walk away, but he put his hands on her shoulders and held her in place.

"Nya, look at me." He told her softly. She lifted her head and looked into his electric blue eyes. "I can see there's something bothering you. What's wrong?" He asked again.

She stared into his eyes, almost mesmerized. "Why do you love me?"

This question was pretty unexpected. Jay looked back into her eyes, hoping it was a trick question. He was hoping that because he hated the times she questioned her worth. When he realized she meant that question, he became even more worried than before.

"Nya, is that... a serious question?" He did need to know if she really meant it.

When she just looked away, he got his answer. He immediately pulled her into another, tighter hug. "You're the most amazing girl I've ever met. You're beautiful, smart, strong. I love everything about you. There's nothing I'd ever wanna change about you, because you are the best you and the you I want and need in my life. You make me smile every time I get to be with you. Even when we're not together, I always can't wait for when we are again. You complete me both physically and mentally. Please don't ever doubt your worth." He then ended his speech.

After he didn't get any reaction, he slowly looked down to see Nya's head buried deep into his shoulder. He examined her a little better and widened his eyes as he realized she was sobbing softly.

"Nya, please tell me what happened. You're usually not like this, I'm worried." He caressed her head as he softly spoke to her.

Nya then pulled away. "Thanks, I really needed that." She wiped away the remaining tears. Then she looked at Jay again and saw his very worried face.

He then stepped closer and cupped her face, looking directly into her eyes. "I know you can't talk about it right now, but I'm always ready to listen, okay? You can always talk to me, just... don't let it hurt you too much, okay?" That was true. She couldn't talk about whatever was on her mind. But it wasn't the first time like that, it was a thing that Nya wasn't the one to talk about feelings in general, and Jay knew that all too well. And he accepted it.

She smiled as she grabbed one of his hands with her own and melted into his touch. "Thank you."

Jay then grew a smile on his own face. She could see him eyeing her mouth a few times. He was probably anxious of her reaction, though she was just waiting for his move.

After many more glances at her lips, then at her eyes and back and forth, Nya couldn't take it anymore. "What are you waiting for?" She whispered.

Suddenly, Jay let go of her face, placed his hands on her waist, and pulled her close. He leaned forward and stopped a few inches away from her lips. "Honestly, no idea."

She smiled, placing her hands around his neck, pulling him down, closing the gap between them. The kiss was sweet and slow, the kind of kiss they had both always enjoyed from the beginning on of their relationship. They would've enjoyed it even more, though, if it wasn't for a stupid phone ringing.

"Jump up, kick back, whip around and spin.
And then we jump back, do it again.
Ninja-go! Ninja-go! Come on, come on, we're gonna do it again..."

Jay reluctantly pulled away, groaning. He took out his phone and answered without looking at the caller ID. "Hello?" He asked groggily.

Nya could hear her brother's voice screaming though the speakers, but she couldn't really understand what he was exactly saying.

"Yeah, I got her... mhm... no, she's fine... no, we're not doing anything inappropriate, grow up, Kai!... yeah, we'll be there." Jay then hung up.

"He's never gonna understand the meaning of a relationship, is he?" She said in disbelief.

"Well, I guess we're just gonna have to wait for Skylor to make a move, then." Jay laughed.

"It's pain to see them both loving each other but not being able to make the move. I mean, not even we were that pathetic." She remarked. "Once they do decide to start a relationship, we're gonna ruin their moments, too. I gotta be a nice sister and get my revenge on my brother for always watching us like a hawk, it's time for some classic payback." She smiled devilishly.

"I bet you will." Jay laughed. "We gotta go now, though. The guys are waiting for us."

With that being said, the two lovebirds made their way back to the cafeteria hand in hand.

The last two periods of their first school day were pretty boring. Part of the gang had Chemistry, the others had Biology. After the bell rang for one last time for the day, the classes were dismissed. They met up at their lockers again, said their goodbyes to Seliel, quickly went to the principal's office to get their bracelets off, said their goodbyes to Skylor, and then went home to the monastery.

There, they were greeted by Master Wu and an already set dining table. He had prepared spaghetti with bologna sauce with orange juice and coffee for the Ninja.

The guys were grateful for the food since they hadn't eaten anything but chocolate cake at school. They quickly sat down.

"So, how was your day?" Wu asked excitedly.

"It was alright." Jay answered.

"Besides the food. Their food was horrible." Lloyd added.

"But we gotta admit that the cake was amazing." Cole said before he stuffed his mouth with a fork full of spaghetti. One loose string was dangling down from his mouth which he slowly sucked inside.

"That sounds... pleasantly." Wu didn't really know what to answer.

Nya took a sip of her dark coffee. "I think today was more like a 'get to know better' moment rather than already feeling like real students."

"Yeah, tomorrow are the tryouts for the football team." Kai said excitedly. "And Cole and I are gonna participate."

"What about the others?" Wu asked.

"I don't think I'd be interested in that." Jay said.

"Me neither." Nya added. She then took another big sip of her coffee.

Wu then turned to her. "Will you do cheerleading?"

Nya choked on her coffee, whereas the boys all broke out in laughter. "Master, with all due respect, I have class." She then frowned to herself. "There's no way I'll ever dress like a little Barbie doll with a mini skirt and a tight crop top and do stunts that'll expose every bit of skin I have." She then leaned back. "Especially not for teenage boys that are just waiting for those girls to cheer for them to see their private parts."

The room fell quiet. Nobody knew what to do or say. Nya then looked around to see everyone looking at everything else but her, so she laughed. "Guys, seriously. You don't have to be this quiet just because I said I wasn't gonna dress that way."

They all visibly relaxed. "Yeah, umm." Jay turned towards Wu. "Nya and I are actually gonna participate in Dance classes there." He then smiled at Nya who smiled back at him.

"That's great, you're a great dancing pair." Cole smiled at the two. He was a big Jaya shipper, everyone knew about that.

For the rest of the day, the gang just spent some time together and talked and just enjoyed each other's company. Then they all went to bed at around 9 pm to get a good night's rest.

Everyone was fast asleep. However, at around three in the morning, a certain Water Ninja was woken up by a ringing phone. She opened one of her eyes and groggily reached for her phone on her nightstand. After she touched the phone screen, she saw that she had received a new message. The number wasn't listed in her contacts, it was a new number.

When she opened her Messenger, she tapped on the message. It read:

'Hello, Nya. I hope you enjoyed your first day, it's gonna be the last one you'll enjoy for a long while. Promised. Xoxo Stacy <3'

Nya's eyes widened. How did she get her phone number? Nya decided to just ignore the message and go back to sleep. No matter how much she told herself that that girl won't be bothering her anymore, even thinking about her name brought back memories she'd always buried deep down and never told anyone about.

She put the phone back on the nightstand and turned to the other side, hoping to fall back asleep. That, however, didn't go as planned as the events of her past kept replaying in her head, haunting her once again. After many minutes of trying, she sat up and just... cried silently. There was no way she would go outside now, she was sure she'd wake the others up, and honestly, she had no idea what she'd tell them if they found her in this state now.

Nya had always been the one in the team to refuse to talk about any type of emotions. No matter if it was love, fear, anger, or hurt. She always stuffed everything into herself and dealt with it all by herself. It was as if she had built a mental block which only a few people could break with the right words.

One of them being her boyfriend, Jay. He always knew what to do to make her feel better. Yes, she had barely told him about every single thing that was on her mind, ever. Not because she didn't trust him, it was just that talking about such sensitive topics had always been pretty hard. That's why she had always avoided those kinds of things.

He, of course, talked about everything in his life like an open book. And she always listened and never felt tired of his voice and the various things he'd done in his past before he met the Ninja team.

And being in a relationship for so many years and now being Yin-Yang, Jay understood about her mental block and had always respected it. He had never pushed her to say or do anything she wasn't comfortable with. It was the type of boundary that none of them set up on purpose. And there had been many times where Nya went to Jay for comfort whenever she was feeling down and he always made her feel better without talking about what had happened.

And to her, his comfort was golden. And she'd always tried to make that clear for him.

Anyways, crying into her own pillow, she realized that she had forgotten to take off her mascara before going to bed, because her baby blue pillow cover now had some black stains. She groaned, turning the pillow case inside out and laying her head on it, stretching her body on her mattress. Then, shortly after, she was finally able to fall asleep again.
