"What's an unarmed woman doing out here?!"

Darkness, was the first thing you remember. Voices muffled by your unstable consciousness shouted from around you.

"I'll take care of this, go buy me some time!"

It was the first voice you remembered hearing, whom you later on knew was Levi Ackerman.

You had amnesia, the medic concluded. You had somehow got a huge blow to the head and was lucky to have even survived.

"Heichou?" You poked your head into the conference room of the Survey Corps, where they are just discussing a new plan.

"(Y/N)? You're not supposed to--" Levi started as soon as he saw you.

You waved your hand as you walked in, "It's been two weeks, I feel great already."

"It wouldn't hurt for her to listen, right?" Hange says.

"I suppose." Erwin cleared his throat before continuing explaining his plan, "We'll go through the forest here, and then..."

You listened intently to his plan as you somehow could understand all and exactly what he's talking about.

"You can never do that." You cut in to everyone's surprise, "Right there, a hoard of Aberrants will attack you."

"...She's right!" Hange exclaims after examining the map, "I can't believe we left out such an important detail...."

You knew the geography of that map like the back of your hand... Why?

That night, you laid on Levi's bed and stared up at the ceiling. He insisted you take the bed while he took the sofa. There are no extra rooms for guests and you didn't like the atmosphere of the hospital wing, so you're temporarily staying in his room.

"Maybe you were a soldier." He says all of a sudden, as if answering to your thoughts.

"Even if I were... Why was I outside the walls all on my own?" Questions keep flooding your mind, anxiety started to come over.

"(Y/N)," he began in the most comforting voice you've ever heard, "Would you like to join my squad?"

Any source of tears dried up as you sat up and looked at him, "Really?"

He was already staring right at you, "Yeah. You show promise, and I can see it in your eyes."

Your eyes remained on him as he got up and slowly walked towards you.

"The burning passion to protect your close ones." He says quietly as he lifts your chin up, a small smile curved on his thin lips.

You try to no avail to suppress the heat that rushed onto your face, "H-Heichou..!"

"What?" Before you knew it, he was already back on the couch, looking at you with a deadpan expression.

"Nothing! Good night!" You threw yourself back into the sheets, not seeing him smiling at you with a fond look in his eyes.

The next morning, was your official training with the 3D Maneuver Gear, since you had every other knowledge.

"Try to balance yourself on this." You could barely hear his voice with the sound of your heart pounding in your ear when Levi's hands were around your waist.

Calm down... He's just helping me train! You told yourself desperately.

Just as his hands left you, you started to feel the difficulty of this task as you started swaying front and back.

"Ack!" You tumbled backwards.

The anticipated pain on your back never came as Levi caught you in his arm in a tight grip.

You felt his presence come closer and closer as your eyes could only focus on your stomach laying flat in front of you.

You could literally feel his breath on your cheek before his hand reached towards your gear. "I see, this one's defected. Let's get you a new one."

Before you could comprehend what he said, you were back on your feet.

Your heart did more exercise than you did that day.

Very soon, you were an official member of the squad, joining everyone on their missions outside the walls.

Your rapid growth made you outstanding in no time. But no matter how many compliments others shower you with, it's always that one "not bad" from Levi that makes you genuinely smile.

"Watch out, (Y/N)!" It was just another day out in the forest not far out the walls, you were distracted on seeing how amazingly Levi was slashing the Titans you didn't realize an Aberrant charging towards you until someone called out to you.

By the time you knew what was happening, its hand was already reaching towards you. A flashback involuntarily made its way into your mind:

"Run, (Y/N)!"

You froze on the spot. Petra quickly flew by and killed the Titan in front of you.

"... It's time to go back." Levi says after examining your distraught face.

You were spacing out the entire way back. You remembered everything.

As soon as you were alone with the captain in his room again you clutched onto his sleeve, "they all died...."

He sat down beside you, "What happened?"

"I...me and three other friends, we dreamed of being part of the Survey Corps and contributing to humanity, so we secretly studied the map of the outside." You began, "One night, they snuck out. I couldn't just leave them and the Garrison didn't believe me so I went after them...."

Levi put an arm around your shoulders and pulled you into his chest silently, you leaned into his hold.

"I found them...bleeding... A 15-meter class was right around the corner.... H-He pushed me away, I saw them all getting caught before I blacked out...." You finished, scenes and scenes of horrible flashbacks entering your mind.

"Well first of all, you brats shouldn't have snuck out the walls." He remarks, trying to sound harsh.

"I know, I'm sorry." You nudged your head against him, unconsciously making him nervous.

"Anyways, what's important is that you survived, you're here now. You're pursuing the dream that your friends didn't get to."

You slowly look up to his shining eyes and features illuminated in the afternoon sunlight.

"Live on, even for their sake, too." He finished while his hands swiftly cupped your cheeks.

"You're right." You finally smiled the smile he loved seeing so much. "Thank you, Heichou."

"..." He stared into your eyes for the longest time before before he started to lean in, you could feel his breath on your lips as he whispered, "Call me Levi."
