Huey

It takes place when the triplets were seven, before they met Scrooge. I hope you like it!

Huey turned off the stove. "Who wants macaroni?" Dewey jumped up in his seat at the table. "Me! Me, me!" he cheered. Huey served his brothers their food along with a third serving. Huey looked down into the small pot disappointed. There wasn't enough for a fourth serving. Huey pulled out a roll of plastic wrap and covered the third plate. Louie glanced up from his phone. "Aren't you going to eat with us Hue?" he asked concered. Huey looked at his brothers. "I, uh, I'm fine," he said, though his stomach was tugging at him, urging him to eat. But he resisted. Louie stared at his oldest brother suspiciously before turning to his meal and taking a bite.

After Dewey and Louie finished up their dinner, Huey tried to put them to bed. Dewey jumped up and down in his bunk. "I'm too excited to sleep!" "Excited for what?" Huey wondered. "Everything!" the blue duckling beamed. Huey settled him down in his bed. "Stop jumping. You're going tho break the boat!" Huey warned. "Again," Louie mumbled under his breath. Huey settled his brothers in bed and went back to the kitchen to wash dishes.

Before cleaning up, a seven year old Huey realized he had left his book open on the counter. The junior woodchuck guide book. The book was open to a page on how to make macaroni. Huey picked it up. It was his most prized possession. Donald had gotten it for him for Christmas a few years back. Huey had wanted to be a junior woodchuck ever since he could remember. But they had been too poor for him to join. Donald had saved up to buy him a hand me down guide book, knowing his secret wish.

He began washing up the dishes. His stomach growled at him but he chose to ignore it. He had to for the sake of...

"Uncle Donald!" Huey smiled when he walked in. The tired worn out duck sat down at the table. Donald smiled weakly to his nephew. "I saved you dinner," Huey said, pulling a wrapped up paper plate. He shoved the macaroni to Donald. Donald had a thankful look in his eyes. "Did you eat already?" he asked, hesitant to eat. Huey nodded, lying. He faced away from Donald, knowing he was a terrible lier.

Donald ate his meal while Huey tried to keep his stomach from making any noise. Donald leaned back and sighed sadly. "Fired again?" Huey asked. Donald forced a smile. "Can't get anything past you, Hue." Huey put a comforting hand on Donald's arm. "Don't worry, uncle Donald. You'll find work soon." Donald let out a hopeful breath. "What would I do without you?"

Donald stayed up filling out a work application while Huey finished cleaning the house boat. When Huey was done, he walked back to the kitchen. "Uncle Donald, I'm going to bed now. Good night," the red duckling said. Silence. "Uncle Donald?" He heard a loud snore and he realized Donald had fallen asleep at the table. Huey grabbed a blanket from Donald's bed and threw it over him. Huey planted a kiss on his cheek and felt a yawn coming on himself.

The churning in Huey's stomach griped at him again. He headed towards his room. He watched over his brothers. Dewey was flopped on his bed, his mouth open, allowing drool to escape. Louie was shivering in his bed, all his blankets fallen off the bed. Huey shut Dewey's beak and tucked Louie in. Huey stared at his own bunk that was a mess. One blanket was stapled to the ceiling from when he made a makeshift tent. Huey was tired and hungry, but couldn't complain. Not when Donald needed him not to. Huey took a deep breath.

Song (To the tune of Waiting in the wings from Tangled the series)

Huey:

Guess we all are born with parts to play

He set his hand the door way to his room.

Some of us are stars

while some are just in the way.

I know I was meant for more

But that's never what my story

brings

And yet I keep on waiting.

Huey strode to the kitchen where he saw his tired uncle sleeping. Huey knew he had to keep going for his family.

When you have the passion and the drive,

you expect your moment

center stage to arrive

Huey walked out to the deck of the boat. He looked out towards the city of Duckberg. He could see McDuck manner on top of Kilmotor hill. To his left was the money bin. Huey envied the famous Scrooge McDuck. They had everything they needed while Huey was lying to his uncle just so he wouldn't worry about him.

Huey continued singing:

I show up with my heart a blazing

ready to achieve amazing

things,

But I'm left waiting in the wings

Chorus:

I hear my cue

and yet I'm kept there waiting

Know what to do

And still I stand there, waiting

It's always someone else who sings

While I'm left waiting in the wings

Huey walked back inside. Despite feeling so unlucky, he kept his head up, trying to stay proud.

And so I keep on keeping on!

Huey looked back down.

My chances come and then I blink and they're gone.

Huey began to feel the hunger in his stomach and the tiredness in his eyes again. Huey thought about how he lied to Donald.

Always working and preparing

while pretending that it barely

stings.

But it stings,

oh yes, it stings!

And I'll shed no tears!

I'll only keep on waiting,

If no one cheers

well, I can keep on waiting

Huey crawled into his bed, desperately needing rest. He then remembered that he hadn't even finished his homework. He sighed and closed his eyes.

Who cares how loud

the silence rings!

You'll find me waiting

in the wings.

END SONG.

Huey drifted off to sleep, knowing that tomorrow would have its own set of troubles.
