VII

Nur pushes open the door and runs after the man.

She squints her eyes to look and take in the back of the long coat of the man but it disperses into the dark. Nur gathers up her skirt and runs after him. 'Hey!'

He crosses the corner and so does Nur. She cannot understand if she is slow or if he is incredibly fast. 'Hey! Listen!' But he does not and keeps walking in a fast pace.

Nur looks around, to find the man but he is lost. Nur finds herself in a dark, narrow street. The quietness of it dissolves into Nur. She gulps down as her sixth sense apprises an unwelcome feeling.

Without waiting a single second, Nur starts walking out. Her hand searches for her phone in the pocket of her skirt but only disappointment sets upon her. Her bag, her coat and her phone is back in the diner.

Nur increases her pace when she hears footsteps fallowing her. Nur grips the fabric of her hijab hanging loose and wraps it around her head. Allah! Please let me be safe. Nur prays when she feels a pair of hands on her shoulder.

She gulps down again, her eyebrows knitted in distress. 'Do ya 'appen to 'ave money?' A rash voice in an unknown accent, asks her.

She shakes her head and walks forward when he places his hands on her shoulder again. 'I'm 'ungry.' He says. 'I beg ya.'

Nur shakes her shoulder, and without thinking, breaks into a run. The man, as expected, follows her. She turns her head to look at the not-so-beggar-y look of his face. To Nur, he seems rather a thief than a beggar. Nevertheless, she runs.

Her legs throb and her calves seem to give up but she still runs. For the sake of her own safety.

When she halts at the end of the street, she looks behind her to see if the man has stopped following. She heaves a breath as she does not see him anywhere near.

She is to start walking when she hear a crunch from behind her. She turns her body and squinting, she see a faint silhouette of someone hiding in the dark. She starts walking backwards out of the street.

The skidding of wheels on the dusty road fills Nur's ears as with loud clunks of her shoes and fast thumps of her heartbeat, she walks backward, all concentrating on the man that might follow her.

Her fear has made her deaf for she does not hear the horn of the car that arrives from behind her. She freezes, her feet rooted to the ground.

Her eyes widened as she took in the flashlights of the car that come towards her with frantic speed.

Light.

That's all she notices.

Before with a painful blow on her stomach, she is overtaken by the dark.
