"Wha- what do you mean, you know what I've been doing?" Patchfrost stuttered.

Leopardbranch leaned back a little. "I can tell. I used to do the same thing."

"I don't know what you're talking about." The Siamese said defensively.

"Yes you do. And I need to stay, so we can fix this." Leopardbranch put her tail on the other she cat's shoulder.

"I know that you've been depriving yourself of meals during the day. I know that you eat at least two pieces of prey at night when everyone is asleep. And I know that you go into the forest and vomit it all back up. I know, Patchfrost."

The she cat gasped. "How do you know?" She hissed.

Leopardbranch shrugged. "I did the same thing when I was your age."

Patchfrost was taken aback. "You... you did?"

"Yes. And I know the symptoms of it. Your eyes have flecks of blood in them. Your face is swollen and puffy. Your teeth are weak and yellow. My body did the same thing."

The old she cat continued.

"You don't have to be skinny to be pretty, Patchfrost. How did you get the idea in your head?"

The tortie point sighed.

"When I came here as a kit, I noticed that everyone was thin. As a kittypet, I was far from eating all of that food. I just... I don't know. I thought that all of the other she cats were beautiful because they were skinny. I wanted to be like that."

"You wanted to be in control of yourself."

Patchfrost nodded slightly.

"When did you start this routine?"

"I started when I became a warrior. As a kit and an apprentice, I wasn't very focused on looking good. It wasn't like I could have a mate yet. But I started worrying when I became a warrior that no tom would want me because I was a fat kittypet."

Leopardbranch closed her eyes for a moment. "Patchfrost, dear. If the toms didn't want you because you were heavier than them, then they don't deserve you. I know that you are a wonderful, beautiful she cat. And you don't have to be skinny for me to know that."

Patchfrost sighed. "When Applewhisker took me as his mate, I thought it was because I was skinny. I thought he liked that I was so skinny. So I tried to stay that way so he'd still like me."

Leopardbranch looked concerned.

"Again, if he left you because you were 'fat' then he wouldn't deserve you. But I can tell that Applewhisker really does love you. He was so excited when you became his mate. He was so overjoyed to be a father and to start a family with you. The beauty thing was just a bonus. And he went to the medicine cat, you know. About you. He was genuinely concerned about our health. So I told him I'd talk to you."

Patchfrost continued her story.

"When I was expecting, it all went downhill. I was getting fatter by the day, and I was trying so hard to eat so my kits would be healthy, but I felt so ugly that I hardly ate anymore than I used to!"

The she cat was crying now.

"After the kits were born, I was still fat! They almost died because I couldn't bring myself to eat enough for them! Even now, they're both still so small and bony, and it's all my fault! But it's so hard to break my habits..."

Her voice trailed off into a sob, and she collapsed on the floor of the den.

Leopardbranch stood up. "Let's start breaking that habit now. One step at a time."

Patchfrost looked up sadly.

"Let's go share a mouse." She whispered.
