You're So Perfect

That same night, on the other side of town, Trent Andrews found himself walking through the front doors of Pop's. His tie hanging loose around his neck, his black hair a mess from spending the entire night looking for Courtney.

"Hey, Pop." Trent said, walking over to the old man "Courtney hasn't been in here tonight, has she?"

Pop shook his head and nodded towards the direction of the back "Only he's been in here,"

Trent looked over to see Cody sitting in the back of the diner, a burger in front of him. But he hadn't touched it, he was staring out the window.

Trent slowly walked over "Cody?" he said, Cody looked up at him, before his eyes narrowed and he looked away again

"Cody, I know you're probably pissed at me too. But I need to know if you know where Courtney is," he said. Cody sighed and slowly looked at him

"No. I haven't seen her since you broke her heart at Heather's," he snapped. Trent flinched and put his head into his hands

"Oh God," he groaned "I'm such an idiot,"

"I'm not gonna argue on that," Cody mumbled, Trent dropped his hands slowly. Cody tapped his fingers in the table, before slowly cocking his head to the side

"Coach Clayton was in here before you got here. He was talking about making you captain of the varsity squad. So, what does that make you? Big popular jock now?" he asked, Trent looked down at the table

"No... In fact.. I'm kinda terrified I lost my best friend tonight," he said. Cody grabbed a fry off his plate

"If you're talking about Courtney, I can't deny that fact. But as mad as I want to be with you right now, I know you both couldn't survive without each other. So just talk to her, maybe it'll work." Cody said, Trent looked up at him slowly, before sighing and putting his head back into his hands.

Courtney's alarm clock is what woke her up the next morning. She groaned tiredly and rolled over and shoved the thing off the side of her dresser to shut it up. She slowly stretched in bed and sat up, she rubbed her eyes slowly. Before freezing mid motion, and dropping her hands suddenly. Her eyes going wide.

"Oh... My... God," she croaked as the memories of last night's events came rushing back into her head.

I had sex with Duncan Jones.

Courtney yelped and jumped out of bed, looking around her room for any sign that he was still there. But all that was left was her window still open, and a note on the windowsill. She swallowed hard, wrapping the sheet around herself and slowly walked over, picking up the note, she read Duncan's handwriting.

"A good girl no longer" was all it said. Courtney's hand started shaking, and she quickly hid the note into her desk.

"Courtney, time for school!" her Mother's voice called from downstairs. Making her jump out of her skin

"Okay!" she yelled back down weakly. Courtney reached up and ran her hands through her hair, breathing slightly off. Her legs gave out and she slipped to the floor. Her eyes filling with tears

I gave up my virginity because I was mad at Trent and Gwen

She covered her mouth and let out a sob into her hand. Squeezing her eyes shut, she slowly smacked herself in the head

"Stupid, stupid, stupid!" she croaked.

What had happened last night had been so wrong. Felt so wrong.

Courtney vowed to never let it happen again.

But she knew she was lying to herself if she said she didn't want it to.

Trent waited anxiously by Courtney's locker for her to show up to school. He was constantly checking his watch to see what time it was. It was only 15 minutes until first period.

"Come on Court," he whispered to himself.

The doors opened, and Trent sighed in disappointment when Duncan Jones walked through the door. A secret smile playing at his lips. He wore a black leather jacket with dark ripped jeans and a black long sleeved shirt. His black hair was covered by the beanie he always seemed to wear.

"Duncan!" Trent called, jogging over. Duncan froze, and stepped back from Trent a little

"Have you seen Courtney?" Trent asked, and Duncan's eyes widened a little, before he cleared his throat and shook his head

"Nah man. I haven't seen her since last night," he said, and shouldered past Trent. Who watched him go, confused

"Last night? But you didn't go to the dance!" he said. But Duncan ignored him and continued walking down the hall, before turning the corner.

Trent checked his watch again, and that was when the doors opened again and Courtney walked through. Wearing a cute cream sweater, light washed skinny jeans and a pair of white converses. A light pink scarf was wrapped around her neck, and her soft brown hair was pulled into it's normal ponytail.

"Courtney!" Trent said, quickly rushing over. Courtney jumped, and backed up. Looking flustered. Trent stopped right in front of her, but she refused to look him in the eye

"Courtney," Trent said, quietly this time. Her eyes slowly looked up into his. And he sucked in a breath when he saw they were filled with tears

"I don't wanna know... What you and Gwen did in the closet at Heather's.." she said, her voice breaking "But I need to know this... Do you love me, Trent? Or even like me?"

"Of course I love you Courtney," Trent said, but he slowly slumped his shoulder "But I can't give you the answer you want,"

"Why not?" Courtney asked. Trent shook his head, and slowly looked into her eyes again

"You are so perfect, Courtney. I've never been good enough for you. Never will  be good enough for you," he whispered. Courtney's eyes teared up more, and she slowly looked away and nodded a little

"Goodbye, Trent," she said. And backed away from him before walking down the hall and out of sight.

Trent watched her go, feeling completely helpless. He felt eyes on him and he slowly turned around to see Gwen standing there. Looking at him with sad eyes. He looked back towards where Courtney had been, before tearing up and quickly walking the other way.

"And so, it wasn't one heart that broke that day, it was two. And the year had just begun,"

Duncan stared at his dark reflection of his computer screen, staring at the sentence he had just typed. And blew out a sigh, before cracking his knuckles.

"Duncan,"

Duncan slowly turned in his library seat to see Courtney standing there. Looking as gorgeous as ever. Once their eyes met, Duncan slowly stood up and walked towards her. She watched him get closer, as her eyes filled with tears.

She didn't say anything more, she just fell into his arms and sobbed into his chest.
