I Don't Wanna Be Good
"Where is she?" Gwen snapped at Heather. Who was sitting on Geoff's lap.
"She spiraled and left. You know, she's a lot more high strung then she looks," Heather said. Gwen clenched her fists
"Shady bitch," she hissed, and quickly rushed towards the exit. Trent followed quickly
"Should we call her?" he asked. Gwen shook her head
"I'm getting an Uber," she said
"I'll go with you, we should probably try to find her-"
"No!" Gwen snapped. Stopping and looking at Trent "The last thing she wants to see is us together." Gwen shook her head "We messed up,"
And with that, Gwen quickly turned on her heel and left the mansion.
(A/N- this is where I'm changing things up. Duncney time!)
Courtney felt her cheeks burn from the cold air as she ran home. Her tears starting to freeze to her skin. She angrily wiped at them, but to no avail.
She cursed when she nearly tripped on a crack in the sidewalk, and reached down, yanking her heels off and continuing to run down the sidewalk. The cold pavement burning the skin of her feet, but she didn't care. The only pain she felt was the one growing inside her chest.
How could they?
The questioned bounced around in her head, making her brain feel like it were filled with rusty nails.
She heard her phone go off in her handbag, but she ignored it. Knowing it was probably Gwen. Calling to explain. But there was no explaining.
Courtney rounded the corner about a block away from her house. She finally ceased her running, her breath coming in puffs of fog in the cold air.
Those two deserved each other after tonight.
Courtney wiped at her tears one last time, and sucked in a breath of stinging cold air.
She looked to see her house just down the street. The lights on, her parents were waiting for her to come home.
Courtney swallowed hard, suddenly not wanting to be home right now. She turned to head the opposite way, before halting when she realized she was walking towards Trent's house out of habit. She ran hand through her hair and shook her head. Squeezing her eyes tight.
She had never felt so alone in her entire life than she did at that moment.
Shaking her head again, she decided she wouldn't go home. But rather, go someplace else where she always felt a little more at ease.
Courtney quickly ran to her backyard, hopping the fence. Her dress catching and ripping but she didn't care. She looked up at the lattice work on the side of her house, and began climbing up it. Just like she and Cathy always had when they were younger.
Courtney slowly pulled herself up onto her roof right outside her window. She set her handbag and shoes down and pulled her knees to her chest. She looked up at the night sky and thought of her sister. And how many times the two of them had sat out here at night. When things just got too stressful in their lives.
"isn't it a little cold to be out here in a dress?" a deep voice called from the ground. Courtney's eyebrows scrunched together and she leaned over the edge to see Duncan Jones standing in her backyard. He was looking up at her with a smirk, his teal blue eyes shining in the moonlight
"What are you doing here?" she asked. He shrugged
"I saw you running without any shoes on and your face covered in tears. It kinda lead me to believe you weren't okay," Duncan said, sarcasm in his voice. Courtney scoffed and rolled her eyes
"Go away," she said. He raised a brow
"You really want me to?" he asked. Courtney slowly looked back down at him. Her shoulders slumping
"No.." she said weakly. Duncan sighed and slowly walked over, and began climbing the lattice work. He pulled himself up onto the roof and sat down right next to her.
"Wow. Nice view you got up here," he said. Looking out over the town. Courtney set her chin on her knees.
"Yeah. Its where I go when I'm stressed.. But, you probably have no idea why I'm shoe-less and tear stricken-"
"Actually," Duncan noted "I do. Heather tweeted all about it,"
Courtney flinched and covered her eyes "Of course she did," she cried. Duncan looked over at her and gave her a sad look
"If it's any consolation, I think you're far prettier than Gwen," he said. Courtney snorted and sighed
"Trent doesn't think so.." she mumbled. Duncan shook his head
"Who gives a shit?" he said. Courtney's head snapped to his. And he flinched
"Sorry about my language. But really, who does? Just because Trent doesn't think so doesn't mean other guys don't think so." he said. Courtney slowly narrowed her eyes at him
"Who? Because last time I checked, everyone just thinks I'm crazy like my sister." she said. Duncan gave her a blank look
"I do," he said simply. Courtney blinked a little
"You do?" she whispered. Duncan nodded
"I don't think you're crazy Cooper. I think you're just stuck as the girl next door. Which is crazy. Because you're so much more than that," he whispered. Courtney felt for the first time tonight, warm inside.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" she whispered. Duncan leaned back on his elbows
"Because Princess, I don't think you deserve anymore heartbreak tonight," he said. She blushed a little and smiled at him.
Duncan slowly leaned back up and fixed the silver clip in her hair, and she found herself stiffen at how close he was. She felt his warm minty breath against her cheeks.
And suddenly a wave of emotion overcame her. It was like her body was thrown under water and she was left to fight for her life. So many things. Trent. Gwen. Her missing her sister. Her crazy parents. Everything.
Courtney leaned in and captured Duncan's lips with her own. They were surprisingly soft. He seemed slightly surprised, but got into it right away. Reaching over and pulling her body over his legs so she was straddling him. Duncan and Courtney kissed like that for a long time, before she slowly pulled away, a hungry look in her eyes. Duncan watched as she slowly stood up, pulling him up after her. She opened her bedroom window and climbed down into her room. He followed, surprised by the always good girl's attitude.
Courtney slowly looked at him, and pulled his shirt over his head
"I don't wanna be the good girl anymore," she whispered.
And with that, Duncan kissed her hard. Pulling her close as his hands pushed her dress off her shoulders and to the ground.
As their clothes disappeared, so did the remnants of who Courtney used to be.
And who she vowed to never be again.
