"Dad!" Trent called, as he rushed downstairs. Wearing his backpack. He paused to fix his hair in the mirror in the hallway "It's the first day of school and I'm already late!"

Trent jogged down the hall, stopping to pet his dog Nine in the process

"Hey, you uh, stopping by the sight later? I could use your help this year again," Trent's dad, Dylan said. Trent swallowed hard and looked down

"I can't. I have football try out's." he said. Dylan looked surprised and Trent sighed "Or is that not okay?" 

"No, it's okay. Very okay. Just surprising," Dylan shrugged, and took a sip of his coffee. Trent nodded and headed out the door

"Bye Dad!"

"Courtney, now listen.." Courtney's mom, spoke softly as she watched her daughter pack her bag for the first day of school "This coming year is critical for colleges," 

Courtney stifled a sigh, as she shoved her biology textbook into her bag. 

"Grades are important. Extra circulars, athletics, maintaining a decent character is hugely important. I mean... Just look at your poor sister," 

Courtney felt her shoulders tighten at the mention of her sister. And looked at her mom

"Cathy was such a shining star. And it was all thrown away for that Blossom boy-"

"Mom, I'm not Cathy," Courtney said strictly. She sighed a little and grabbed her bag and threw it over her shoulder.

"You missed curfew last night," her Mother continued. Courtney rubbed her temples

"By seven minutes Mom. I was with Trent, who has black hair yes. But he's nothing like Jason Blossom," Courtney said. Pulling her hair into a tight ponytail. Courtney's Mother, Kimberly, slowly stood up and took Courtney's hands gently into her own

"Sweetheart, all boys are like Jason Blossom," she said. Courtney's face fell, and she slowly slipped her hands out of her mother's grip

"I have to get to school, Cody and I are walking together this morning.." Courtney mumbled, and turned and walked out of her bedroom without giving her mother another glance. 

Upon entering the school, Courtney and Cody found themselves being called into the office first thing. 

"Thank you so much for coming with me, I don't think I could do this alone after what happened last night," Courtney said, pulling her ponytail tighter. Cody shook his head

"She just walked right up to your table and started talking? That's so rude," Cody said, Courtney shrugged

"Gwen said she was from New York, maybe that's how things are over there," she said. 

"Hello Mrs. Cooper, Mr. Keller," their principal, Mr. Stone said. He was standing in front of them, wearing a signature bow-tie and gray button down suit. His gray hair was combed over, to hide his bald spot. And he sported a large mole on his chin that you couldn't help but notice first. 

"Hello Mr. Stone," Courtney smiled, and shook his hand professionally. Mr. Stone smiled at her 

"Thank you for volunteering to take Ms. Lodge's tour," he said. Courtney's look hardened a little but she shrugged

"Just helping a fellow Riverdale student," she said. She heard Cody snort behind her, and she elbowed him. 

"Gwendolyn!" Mr. Stone called, and the girl Courtney met last night slowly walked over. She smiled at Courtney, Courtney returned it slowly. 

"Gwen this is-"

"Courtney Cooper, we've met," Gwen finished for him. Mr. Stone looked surprised but continued

"She will be giving you your school tour this morning, Courtney is one of our best students. You should be so lucky," Mr. Stone nodded at the 3 of them before returning to his office. 

"If you'd follow me, I'll start the tour," Courtney said, Gwen nodded and the three of them left the office and began walking down the hall

"I like to start my tours with a little History context," Courtney explained, as Gwen looked around at the seemingly huge school "Riverdale High first opened it's doors in 1941, and-"

"And hasn't been redecorated since, apparently," Gwen mused, crossing her arms. Courtney chuckled a little 

"So what's the social scene like here?" Gwen asked, looking at Courtney as Cody trailed behind them. Courtney looked at her confused, and Gwen smirked "Any clubs?"

"A strip club called "Shake It" and a tragic gay bar called "The Innuendo" there's Friday night football games, and a tailgate party after those games. Saturday night is movie night at the drive in, they usually play some sick action flick because a guy named Duncan basically runs the thing," Cody smirked at Gwen and threw his arm around Courtney who laughed

"Gwen Lodge, meet Cody Keller. Cody, Gwen is new here and Gwen, Cody is-"

"Gay, thank God. Let's be best friends," Gwen said, sticking her hand out. Cody shook it slowly, looking surprised and suspicious. 

"Is it true what they say about your Dad?" Cody blurted out. Courtney's eyes widened, and Gwen took a step back a little. 

"That he's locked up?" she asked, an annoyed tone to her voice now. "Yes," 

Cody and Courtney shared a look, and Gwen sighed

"Does everyone know about my Dad here?" she asked, Courtney slowly looked down. Gwen groaned in frustration "Great! Haven't been here a day and I'm already labeled as a criminals daughter," 

Gwen began walking ahead of them, and Courtney gave Cody a frustrated look. 

"Oh!" Courtney said, quickly catching up "There's also the annual Fall Semi Formal dance-"

"Sh!" Gwen said, holding her hand up, her eyes narrowed slowly and she licked her lips "There's the hottie you were with last night," she purred. Courtney looked ahead to see Trent standing with a bunch of the school's football team. Courtney's hands turned to fists slowly.

"Is he your boyfriend?" Gwen asked, turning to look at Courtney. Courtney blushed a little

"No, we're just friends," she said. Cody cleared his throat 

"Actually, to clarify, Courtney and Trent aren't dating- but they are end game," Cody said, patting Courtney's shoulder. Who rolled her eyes with a smile

"You should ask him to the semi formal then," Gwen said, smiling at Courtney

"She should, but I think it might be getting cancelled. Because of what happened to Jason, there gonna tell us at the assembly." Cody said. Gwen looked at him confused, and Courtney stiffened. 

"Who's Jason, and what happened to him?" Gwen asked.

Courtney and Cody shared a look, and swallowed hard.
