Two
I walk downstairs and follow Autumn to the kitchen in our small two story flat.
"Chocolate chip or raisin?" She asks, rummaging through the pantry.
"Obviously chocolate, Aut." I reply, using her nickname from oh so long ago.
She smiles, grabbing the cookie mix, and hands it to me. "Your turn, Cait." She responds.
"Alright!" I cheer, reading the directions. "One egg!"
"On it!"
"Oil! A bowl! A stick of butter!" I order.
"Here you go." Autumn responds, placing the items before me.
"Let's do this!" I cheer.
----------------------------------------
"That was fun." I smile.
"It'll be even better once the cookies are baked and then we can devour them like I will to Alex's soul." Autumn says, and I gasp a little.
"That got dark fast!" I respond, putting a hand over my heart.
"It's the inevitable truth!" She exclaims, making me giggle.
"Alright, alright. Think whatever your creative mind wants to think."
"Aww come on, Kit Kat! You know it's true!" Autumn says, tossing a pillow at me.
I catch it a few centimeters from my face. "Who you callin Kit Kat?" I ask, tossing the pillow back at her.
"You." She replies, tossing the pillow at me. It hits my stomach and I try to think of a nickname for her on the spot. "Ha! You can't think of a nickname!" She teases.
"I got it! Fall! Ha! Eat this!" I respond, throwing the pillow back at her.
It bounces off her shoulder and she laughs. "Pathetic! Fall?! What kind of name is that?! And that throw!" She doubles over.
"Heyy!!" Just as I am about to attack her with another pillow, the oven goes off.
Autumn and I look at each other and both yell "MINE!!!" as we run to the oven. I manage to get there first and pull out the cookies.
"Awwwwww...." Autumn glumly says as I take the cookies off of the baking sheet and put them in a container. I grab four cookies and hand her two. "YAAAYYYYYY COOKIESSSSS!!!!" She exclaims, making me smile.
"Cookies." I reply, eating mine.
----------------------------------------
I toss and turn, unable to fall asleep. I stand up and grab one of Alex's oversized hoodies, along with my phone, and tiptoe out of my bedroom. I look down the dark hallway to make sure if it's clear.
All good.
I walk to the front door and to the elevator without trouble. I sneak out the front doors of our place and walk down the street to a condo building. I sneak inside without incident and walk to the elevator. I press the 9 button and walk out once it reaches the floor. I walk down the hallway until I reach the very last door. I unlock it with my spare key and slowly open the door and carefully close it behind me.
I tiptoe down the small hallway and to the bedroom, carefully opening the door and slipping inside. There lies Alex, eyes closed and sleeping peacefully.
He looks so innocent and vulnerable.
As I am about to slip into the bed next to him, my phone violently goes off. My eyes widen as I slip out of the room and grab the phone from my pocket.
"H-hello?" I ask.
"Caitlin! Where the hell are you?!" My best friend practically screams into the phone.
"O-out." I respond.
"Where?" She asks again.
"A-Alex's." I shamefully respond, head hanging low.
"Caitlin!" She angrily yells into the phone.
"S-sorry." I reply.
"Sorry won't cut it. I'm coming over." She responds, shuffling over the line. "I'll be there in 10. Don't do anything stupid." She says, hanging up. I put the phone back in my pocket, sighing.
"Who's there?" Alex slurs, and my eyes widen.
Again?
"Alex. It's me, Caitlin." I respond, watching his shadow move towards me.
"Caitlin?" He asks, directly in front of me.
"Yeah." I reply.
"Who's that?" He asks, and a part of me internally sighs.
"Your girlfriend."
"Girlfriend?" He asks, and I nod my head.
"I'm your girlfriend." I confirm.
"Girlfriend. Girlfriend. Girlfriend. Girlfriend." He mutters over and over, looking down.
It is at that moment that I realize his fists are clenched and he launches himself at me. I gasp as I am tackled to the floor.
"Ally is my girlfriend. Not you." He says, punching me.
My head swivels to the side, and I try to push him off of me. "Get off." I groan, trying to push his large, muscular body off of me, but to no avail. "Get the hell off!" I yell, using my arms to try and find a target.
"You're not Ally." He says, and I freak. I knee him right in the balls and he rolls off of me and onto the ground, clutching the place where it does not shine.
Ha! I internally laugh and shakily stand up, clutching my head where Alex punched me. He punches me again, and I groan. I feel for my phone in my pocket but gasp when I realize it's not there.
"Looking for something?" Alex asks and I shakily turn around to see that my suspicions were correct. He holds up my phone and chucks it across the room, where it breaks in two. I gasp as I look at the remains of my very expensive phone.
I feel a pain in my side only to realize that Alex kicked me. I walk backwards into a chair and walk to the other side of the small kitchen table.
"We can do this all night." Alex says, staring into my eyes. "Or you can just let me kill you." He adds, no remorse in his eyes.
"Since when did our relationship resort to killing?" I shakily ask him.
"Once you ruined my beauty sleep." He cranking responds, and I internally slap myself.
He's being a stupid idiot again...
I come back to myself as Alex starts to move again, grabbing a kitchen knife.
As he is about to come closer to me, the front door bangs open. "POLICE! POLICE!" A squad of officers come barging in and immediately point their guns at us.
Or behind me.
"Put the knife down!" An officer orders, and I hear a clanking sound behind me, which I can only assume to be the knife hitting the floor.
"Is that him?" An officer asks to a figure in the doorway, and the person nods. Three officers push past me and immediately tackle Alex and handcuff him while one comes to me and drags me back to their position, where I collapse, the officer from before falling beside me.
A tear rolls down my face as I gasp and finally realize who the person in the doorway is.
"A-Autumn?"
