Fifteen
We pull up to the hospital to see a nervously pacing Australian. "There's Lachlan." JJ points out. "Wonder what he's doing." He slightly shoves me, and I understand what he's saying.
"No, JJ. He's not thinking about me." I reply, sighing.
"Well just ask him." He says, and before I can respond he pushes me out of the car.
"What the fuck, JJ?!" I yell, but he has already driven off. I stand alone, looking at the spot where JJ was for a few minutes, and then return my gaze to the troubled Australian pacing by the hospital. I start towards him from a couple buildings down. "Lachlan?!" I yell, my voice as clear as day.
He looks up and immediately his electric blue eyes meet my own chocolate ones. "Caitlin!" He yells back, running towards me. I run towards him, pushing past tons of people, until we both meet and he holds me in his arms. "I thought something happened to you. You were gone for a while, and you didn't answer your phone. God, Cait. You gave me such a heart attack." He mumbles into my hair.
"Sorry, Lachy. I'll explain everything later. How's Autumn doing?" I ask, pulling away from the hug to look at him.
His smile immediately turns upside down. "She's not doing too good."
"W-what?" I ask, slightly taken aback.
"She's getting ready to go into surgery now." He responds, and I put both hands over my mouth in shock. Lachlan immediately responds by wrapping his arms back around me. "Hey, hey. It's gonna be alright. Autumn's a strong girl." He whispers into my hair, trying to comfort me.
And it works; not by much but it helps me regain my surroundings. "If only I wasn't such a stuck up little bitch." I whisper.
"Buuuuttt... If you weren't a stuck up little bitch, we wouldn't be talking right now." Lachlan points out, releasing the hug.
"... You know what? You're right. I never would've met you, Lachlan. I guess one good thing happened in my life." I respond, wiping some stray tears aside.
He smiles at me. "Of course. Ready?"
"Ready." I reply.
------------------------------------------------------
I walk to Autumn's room, Lachlan hot on my tail. As we arrive, Autumn's bed is rolling out the door. "Hey! Wait!" I yell, quickly walking to them. "What's going on?!"
"She needs surgery. You should go home, Ms. Davis. You and that young man have been here for a long while and visiting hours are almost over." Dr. Davis, aka my brother, says, giving me a look with so many emotions.
"Cmon, Cait." Lachlan says behind me. I look at Autumn's unconscious body, and regret and guilt fills me once again. What would Autumn do? I know exactly what she would do.
"Lachlan, you can go back to my place. Here are the keys." I say, turning to him and handing him my keys. Autumn is quickly wheeled away behind me and Lachlan furrows his brows.
"I'm not going without you. Come on, we've been here for at least 6 hours." Lachlan says, but I stand my ground.
I turn to a chair outside Autumn's room and sit down in it. "Nope. Surely if your best friend was injured, you would want to be there for them too, right?" I exhaustedly respond.
"... Alright. Just a little longer." Lachlan sighs, and I lightly smile. He sits down next to me.
It's been a while and I can't keep my eyes open. My head falls against Lachlan's shoulder and I close my eyes.
I wake a little while later, only to realize that I'm not in the chair. I'm in a bed; my bed back at my place. "W-what?" I whisper, yawning.
I rub my eyes, standing up, and notice Lachlan laying on the ground next to my bed. I frown. He probably brought us both home after I fell asleep, He shouldn't be there. The ground isn't comfortable.
I tiptoe past him and walk into the bathroom, where I look at my messed up state. I have bags under my eyes, my skin is a deathly white, my hair is a mess, and I'm wearing the same clothes as yesterday. I decide to brush through my hair and jump in the shower. Once I'm finished, I wrap a towel around me and put on some light makeup and brush my hair again. I sneak back into my bedroom and grab an outfit for today. I change back in the bathroom and decide to make breakfast.
I whip up some eggs and bacon and remember that I left my phone in my bedroom. I think I chucked it in my hamper. And what do you know, it's in my jeans. Along with my phone falls a note. Confused, I pick it up and read it.
Little sis, I'm sorry. Can we talk?
He put his number below and I sigh. He must've put it in my pocket when I was talking to Lachlan.
What should I do?
I put his phone number in my contacts and throw the note away, then walk back to the kitchen and eat. Lachlan joins me a bit later, and we talk for a bit after.
"I'm gonna go see Autumn again. You can come with or meet up with the sidemen." I say, getting up and putting my clean plate away.
It's silent for a minute as Lachlan thinks. "I'll go chill with the sidemen for a bit, but you should stop by for a few hours. I know Vikk really wanted to see you." Lachlan says, a hint of sadness in his voice.
"Alright." I respond, looking at him and nodding. I walk to the bathroom and brush my teeth, then grab my small black backpack and sling it over my shoulders. "I'll meet up with you guys at noon!"
"Sounds good." Lachlan responds, and I walk out the front door.
