Ch.7 Silver Cup
The breeze of cold air always never seemed to bother (y/n). When she was a knight the winds would only be her friend when they guided her in battle. Swift and never fearless in the sight of a foe.
Now it was a bitter sweet memory, with being her wings being paralyzed forever. A tiny bit of hope was in her, to feel that her wings would still work, even if they barely flapped in the air.
She was dressed up in her old armor that covered her from the breasts to her knees, always how a knight should wear during a journey or battle. From her window came a rapping sound as she turned around and opened it up.
Malach stood there, holding his hand out. "Are you ready?"
Her blood sang inside her veins at the thought of action. "Ready for anything."
Just then, her wooden door opened up to the devil himself, Sebastian. He wore his usual wear, but from the opening of his coat was the faintest of silver. (y/n) has seen him fight before when the manor was being robbed and strangely he fought with knives or daggers, nothing more than mere kitchen tools.
Malach scrunched up his nose in distaste, "I forgot you were coming."
Sebastian flashed him a smile, but (y/n) knew from the two years working him that it was a smile of dislike. "Well let's not forget our little talk from this morning. The Lord is asleep and I have the tools for killing, I'll be a greater help than you would think, prince."
Malach stiffen up, hating the sound of the word prince from Sebastian's mouth. "I would advise you only call me Malach, demon."
"The name's Sebastian, Malach. Don't forget it either."
(y/n) groaned and leaned at the side of the window. "Can we get going before the sun rises?"
"Oh," Malach stated. "We have no worry over that." He showed the ring around his finger. "This ring will help us transport with the location according to the minion helping Ariel."
Sebastian stared at the ring Malach wore, the crystal clear glass protection over the single white jewel inside, but it flashed different ranges of color from time to time. It sparked an interest inside to know that angels had other ways of transporting.
"Now then, hold onto me." Malach stretched out his hand.
(y/n) held onto his shoulder while Sebastian did the same, his hand siding down on top of (y/n)'s. Her heart did a skip of a beat as Sebastian didn't really mean to let his hand side onto hers, but he strangely liked it, but didn't say it out loud.
Transportation felt weird to (y/n), but it felt like flying almost while standing on nothing. In the blink of a second they stood on solid ground of dirt, along with rows of a forest. In the distance was a lit lamp with some voices surrounded by all of the trees.
"Stay still and quiet," Malach whispered quietly.
Sebastian and (y/n) stayed low and followed Malach through the woods, dipping around some bushes and jumping over a stream nearby. The coldness seemed to bite at (y/n)'s skin like knives, and it was only the beginning of spring.
The voices became louder and louder, but they sounded jokingly more than serious like guardsmen. The people guarding the entrance to the small house were red in the cheeks, meaning they were drunk.
Sebastian chuckled quietly to himself. "Is it so boring in these woods they drink wine? I must say, humans are very stupid at times."
"Indeed." Malach reported back, turning to the two. "This is the plan. Sebastian and you, (y/n), will take down the guards and run inside to check for any more of them. Kill or simply knock them out while I rush in and grab the silver cup."
"Why must you grab the cup?" Sebastian questioned.
(y/n) spoke up with a half whisper. "Only the royal family can hold the cup. Its powers are far too great for any demon or angel to hold, much less a mortal their selves to touch it. The royal family have the blood inside to tame its powers and use it for their own will."
Malach gave (y/n) a wink. "Thank you for the explanation. Now, we must hurry this up before the other guards for the midnight shift come in. I've heard it's more secured in the night because of thieves trying to take the cup for their own."
"Right." (y/n) nodded her head and took out the sword from her side, the silver barley reflecting in the flames light.
Sebastian stood up first and quickly ran on the opposite side of the wall, in the shadows where the entrance is at. (y/n) was always jealous of his super speed, something she wished she would have gotten from her demon side.
With her sword raised, she used the hilt of it too slam into the guard's neck, knocking him out like a fly. The guard gasped and tried looking in the shadows of the night, but blood spilt down his own neck, but from the work of knives.
(y/n) looked away from the body, grossed out from the sight of his neck sliced open. "You know, Sebastian, you could have just knocked him out."
Sebastian wiped the blood from his wrist off before looking back at her, red eyes even glowing in the darkness of the late spring night. "I kill people first if they aren't worth the time and energy to breath in this world. You're an angel, killing is the least of your nature, but I am a demon. We kill for fun or hunger."
She had heard this speech before, but maybe she could change the fact about the killing of mortals. They did have a purpose, but some just stray away from the path they were meant to take and wonder into the darkness, like these two poor fellows at their feet.
"Let's just get a move on." (y/n) stepped her away over and opened up the wooden door.
It creaked slightly from its old age and stopped when the rug stopped. (y/n) cursed and forced it open, making Sebastian smile in humor and help her along. Secretly inside she was grateful time from time with his help.
The place was worn down by age and time from what it looked to be. Cracks in the walls and tiny rodent pop on the sides of the doors. It even smelled foul from the other rooms, but one of them was just dirty laundry from the guards living here. From the looks of the place stairs lead downwards towards more darkness...
So far this place was quiet and easy to walk through... almost too much for their liking. (y/n) stepped on one of the titles of the floor as it sunk into the ground, releasing an arrow from opening in the wall.
"Look out!" Sebastain pushed her forward in time before rows upon rows of arrow released at once.
Once the attack was done the ceiling and walls had dust falling from the age. It looked like these arrows were in here for a long time, because the wood holding the arrow together looked thin and easy to break.
"What was this place?" (y/n) mumbled to herself.
"I think it was a crypt. From the opening of the room there have been huge tubs to wash the bodies and large slides in the walls, holding the body in I can figure."
A shudder pasted through her. This was a place where dead bodies were held. It was a sick and lifeless place where the dead slept in peace, but gave the living a chill of dread from the dead sleeping in these very rooms.
"I can see that," she got up, "but why have arrows inside the walls?"
"Some people from rich families are stored here with the jewels and other possessions they had in their life carries with them. Thieves like to raid through the tombs and take them for their selves."
"That's disgusting! Digging through a dead body?! Just for jewels?!"
Sebastian's face turned grim. "It's the greed inside mortals, not caring for the dead's peace and want the jewels for their own to sell. It sounds something from what a mortal would do, does it not?"
"Let's just keep going." She ignored his questioned and walked further in.
The walls further down looked to be ancient and looked to be ready to collapse, even from the lightest of a feather. From the darkness sprung a very faint light, but it was The Silver Cup of Heaven. Her heart leaped inside her chest as she paced herself down towards it, having Sebastian keep pace with her.
The cup was inside a glass cover that kept the cup clean from the rust and dust of the ancient crypt. (y/n) eyed the cup design, angels around the outer edges and drinking from the cup, but on the bottom looked to be humans, worshiping them.
(y/n) took a step forward when a groaning was heard from behind the cup. She took a step back as Sebastian rested his hand around his rows of knives. From the darkness formed a shape, then became visible in the light.
It was a demon, but made from skeletons as its goo held itself together. The foul air was coming from it as blood poured from its eye, speaking as if it was underwater. "Who goes thereeee?"
"It's a soul sucking demon." Sebastian took out one of his daggers. "If you're not careful it'll suck the life out of you."
The demon leaped towards (y/n) as she sliced it with her sword, clean through, but the monster's goo quickly patched itself together. This was a problem, if sword couldn't cut through then knives wouldn't do anything at all.
Sebastian leaped out of the way when the demon hurled some of its goo at him, the wall behind was burned through from the acid and the other side of the room could be seen. He sliced at the bones, but no dice.
"Damn it," Sebastian muttered. "This is a stronger demon than I thought."
"What can we do to stop it?"
"I think we can kill it with magic, but that will be highly dangerous reconnoitering the cup is in the room with us."
"We- hmp- have to try!" (y/n) yelled, hacking and slashing at the demon.
It seemed to work if she kept it up, but her energy would be wasted halfway through the demon. Suddenly, it opened its mouth wide up and lunged to swallow her up, but Sebastian blocked it with a dagger at its eye, making it scream in pain.
"Just do it!" Sebastian yelled as he threw more daggers at the demon's other eye.
(y/n) nodded and focused the magic inside herself. It's been two years since she's done any type of magic, so it wasn't going to be as powerful as before. The spell turned into a fire type one and threw it at the demon.
It roared in agony as its goo melted and dripped from the flames. Sebastian panted and leaned against the wall, feeling the cool stone behind him. "Nice job, (y/l)."
(y/n) smiled and slipped her sword back into its cover. "Ditto."
"Hey! Are you guys okay?!" Malach's voiced carried and echoed through the crypt.
"We're okay!"
Malach came running down the hall, eyes wide at all the goo on the floor. "What the.... was this a demon?"
"Yes," Sebastian said, slightly breathless from the flames eating up the oxygen. "A soul sucking demon to be more like it. An angel capturing it and using it to guard the cup, this is a powerful foe we're dealing with on our hands."
Malach sighed, face paled a little bit. "I feared as much. I know the Cup of Heaven is a very powerful tool, but I didn't know it could control demons."
Sebastian rose an eyebrow. "Oh? Something the royal family doesn't know about? How interesting."
"Yes, but thank you for leading us here before the sun could rise." (y/n) bowed with respect. "Can you return us back to the manor?"
Malach smiled with a nod. "Of course. I'll inform you of the next mission."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
By the time they got back it was two in the morning. (y/n) could feel her eye weighting down by her eye bags, something she always hated to feel when she stayed up past her bedtime. Sebastian was just fine while he walked towards his room, but stopped just from a foot in front.
"(y/n)," he called out, "make sure to dress warmly but comfortable. The Master wants us to do some shopping for the manor while he is at the queens meeting. He won't be back until tomorrow at nightfall, so we must make it quick so dinner will be served."
Great, just another thing to make her day. Nerveless, she nodded in agreement. "Alright, goodnight.
Sebastian said the same back before she closed her door. A yawn escaped her lips when she put on a nightgown, then the feeling of Sebastian's hand on top of her came back to her. A shiver passed through her, wondering how on earth she could have liked the feeling of that demon's touch...
