Banter and butter knives

"What did you say?" Sebastian asked, clearly giving you a chance to correct myself rather than trying to rehear what I said, his butter knives digging into my throat.

"I said 'Darling'," I quickly restate, knowing what might happen if I say 'Demon' again in front of Lady Elizabeth. But his and the Earls reactions confirm it.

Sebastian Michaelis is a demon.

" I never got to see your collar this close before," I continue, " and it's absolutely darling. See Lizzie," I turn to my Lady, '' I would much prefer this uniform, rather than this heavy outfit." I gesture to my many petticoats.

Lizzie smiles at me, instantly defusing the situation, "I do think the tail coats would be cute on you (Y/N)," she giggles, "Well, I'll see what I can do at home."

I turn to face Phantomhive, "Well, my Earl, what do you say to that sparring match?"

His face still in absolute horror, Phantomhive needs Lizzie to poke him before he falls out of his seat all together.

"So I assume that's a no then?" I inquire.

Phantomhive quickly gets up and clears his throat, "Yes, yes," he waves his hand oh so carelessly, "now, Sebastian!"

"Yes, my lord"

"Show Elizabeths.... Friend to the library. That's where the merchant and I will be meeting, so I would prefer if it wasn't covered in dust. After you show her how to properly clean a bookcase, leave her to the rest of the library, and get started on the ballroom itself," handing Sebastian a planing diagram me and Lizzie made last night for the party set up.

"Yes my lord," Sebastian bows, and looks at me when I don't, so I quickly bow with him, and we walk away.

"Soooooo," I say, trying to make conversation as me and Sebastian make our way down the hall to the library, "Is the Earl always that judgemental?"

Before I could even turn to him, I'm pushed up against the nearest wall several feet off the ground, and several butter knives pushing against my throat yet again. "How did you know?" I almost laugh at the stressed expression on the demon's face.

"Y'know, if you really want to be threatening, you might want to sharpen those things," I say as I grab his knives and twist them around twisting his arm with it, completely throwing him off me. I kick his torso, and with his unbalance because of his twisted arm, combined with my demon strength, Sebastian is kicked to the other side of the hall.

My eyes are red. I'm angry.

Sebastian notices the change, and looks surprised. The look on his face makes me laugh so hard that it instantly changes my mood and eye color.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, my demon side makes my mood extremely erratic.

My laughter confuses Sebastian, so I use this to change the subject as I see large doors in front of me, " Is this the library?"

".... Yes"

I push open to doors and marvel at the amount of books.

I've loved reading for as long as I can remember. Before people deduced that I was a monster, me and my best friend loved to read every book in his house. His mother used to love that I encouraged Leo to read, she used to love that about me. She used to love me.

That's over now, obviously.

I walked over to a book shelf that was at least 10 feet high, and I saw that on the very top shelf was a first edition copy of Great Expectations. I wanted to pick it up and never let it go, but I clearly couldn't reach it.

'You know, you could just—', but I quickly dismissed the thought, I couldn't do that. Not in front of Sebastian, at least.

"How. Did. You. Know?" Sebastian demands, quickly losing patience.

I sigh, 'well I might as well,' I think to myself, 'knock out two birds with one stone.'

"I'll show you," say as i take off two of my skirts and my first jacket (the skirts to make my load lighter, and the jacket to hide the rips in my other layers later) and feel the flesh ripping in my back, not in a painful way, in a freeing way actually, and a set of black leathery wings rested in between my shoulder blades.

I bend my knees and shoot up to the top of the book case, grab Great Expectations, and shoot back down, catching Sebastian's shock on his face.

As my feet hit the ground, my wings fold up and melt back into my skin, and I turn to the demon before me.

"I know your a demon because I know what demons look like. After all, I see one every time I look in a mirror.
