Chapter 3: A Name Not Yet Given
Red Fountain - 13th September
Kaneki steps off the bus and pulls up the map on his phone. He comes across a stone pathway that leads into the forest. As he delves deeper, he finally arrives at Red Fountain, which is covered in scaffolding and builders fervently working to restore the school to its former glory.
"You must be Kaneki." Kaneki looks to see a guy with long black hair standing near the front gate before strolling over to him. He holds out his hand and introduces himself, "I'm Helia, and we'll be working together for the duration of the year."
"It's a pleasure." Kaneki returns his handshake along with a nod.
"My uncle Saladin is busy right now, so I'll be showing you around and informing you of your duties. Come with me." The first place he took Kaneki was to the teachers' dorms so he could pick out his room and leave his bags there, then he took him to other areas such as the armoury, the forge, the hangar and the flight deck, and the layout of the school. The final area shown was the dragon stables.
"Dragon stables?" Kaneki queries.
"Yes. One of the first duties of a specialist is to find their bonded dragon. You could have all the accolades in the world, and have trained for centuries, and yet you still wouldn't be considered a full-fledged specialist without a bonded dragon."
"I've never seen a dragon before. They're a myth where I'm from."
"Really? Dragons are well-known creatures on a majority of planets, so I'm surprised you don't know of them. You must have come far from Magix."
"Far would be an understatement." Kaneki comments.
"Nonetheless, it's important for you to bond with a dragon."
"It is?" Honestly, it sounded kinda cool. Who wouldn't want their very own dragon partner? He could actually hear in his head Hide screaming/begging for Kaneki not to mess this up because he wants to ride a dragon whenever wherever. He mentally slaps Hide out of his head and focuses on Helia.
"I heard you've never attended a paramilitary institute. It'd be hard for the juniors to respect a senior who never underwent any formal military training. A bonded dragon may soothe the tension and encourage the others to respect you."
The stables weren't really stables but a coliseum made of yellow stone with intricate designs. The doors open to show the rows and rows of trophies, medals and pictures.
They take the elevator to the first floor where the unbonded dragons live. The bonded dragons move up a floor when their specialist move up a grade. The teachers' dragons live at the top of the building.
Heads poke out of the stalls at the sound of their arrival. What surprised Kaneki most was the small mumbles coming from the dragons.
"Is it lunch already?"
"Why do you ask that every time a human comes by?"
"I'm hungry."
"You're always hungry."
"The day Brantley's bottomless pit of a stomach is full is the day I eat my tail."
Kaneki is left bewildered as the other dragons burst out laughing while Brantley pouts at their teasing. Talking dragons. Hide will definitely pitch a jealous fit when he finds out and Kaneki probably shouldn't enjoy the thought of that.
"You didn't say they could talk." Kaneki turns to Helia who stops petting a nearby dragon due to Kaneki's strange words, said dragon wasn't very happy and kept nudging her head at his hand.
"What do you mean?"
"They're talking... like us." Kaneki points to the group while Helia stares at him like he's grown three heads.
"That's impossible." Helia initially wondered if Kaneki was messing with him but looking into his eyes, and seeing the wonder and bafflement, Helia knew Kaneki was telling the truth.
"Can this guy actually hear us?"
"Doubt it. He's probably messing with us."
"I'm not messing with you." Kaneki looked straight into the eyes of the dragon that just spoke and with that, all the dragons rushed towards him, as much as they could while being locked in their stalls, chattering in excitement over the fact that there is a human who understands dragon tongue.
"Whoa, he can really understand all of us?!"
"Never heard of a human who could do that."
"Hey Eris, check out this human."
A dragon sticks his head into the stall next to his and wakes up his neighbour, Eris ignores him but the excited chatter from her brethren roused her from sleep, forcing her to get up and see what all the fuss was about. Once Eris and Kaneki lock eyes they know that they now share a bond.
Eris shifts and stands tall before addressing her brethren, "I don't think he's human, I think he's our brother."
"What are you talking about, Eris? Weirdest dragon I've ever seen."
"He's a dragon only in name; a name that has not yet been given."
"A name that's not yet been given?" Kaneki echoes. "I don't understand."
"You wouldn't. A lot of dragons actually don't either but you'll understand one day and I'll be there to see you ascend to your title."
"So does that mean you're my partner?"
"Yes. It will be a pleasure to work beside you." Eris bows her head in respect.
"Wow, you're one of the lucky ones, it usually takes much longer to form a bond. I know Aero only accepted Riven after 2 days of trying."
That sounds rough. He's lucky that everything is going so well but he shouldn't let his guard down, trouble will soon come especially if the students decide to give him trouble. "Now what?"
"We'll submit the papers to have Eris transferred upstairs. Meanwhile, I'll help you learn about her gear, eating and grooming habits as well as flight lessons."
Helia begins to teach Kaneki everything about caring for his dragon and to his satisfaction, Kaneki absorbs all the knowledge fairly quickly. Helia watches Kaneki carefully as he communicates with Eris, like a full-on conversation, which shouldn't be possible. While specialists and dragons share a bond, they can only transfer thoughts and feelings, there has never been a case of a human understanding/communicating with dragons in the history of Red Fountain. The only humans able to do so were those with fauna-based powers.
He should inform his uncle of this. This is abnormal but as Helia watches Kaneki give Eris a scratch behind her ear, a smile on both their faces, he sees that Kaneki is not a bad person. Perhaps a little guarded and socially awkward but nonetheless a good guy.
"Oh Helia, it's been a while." Helia turns around to find Codatorta strolling over to him.
"It's great to see you again, professor. I arrived 3 days ago, I tried looking for you but you weren't here."
"That cause I was doing some house calls, they weren't very successful though," Codatorta sighs scratching the back of his head as he remembers the few times he was insulted, spat on and shoved out of houses. Not that he could complain, most of those parents were those who already lost a son or had their son returned either crippled or traumatised, they didn't want to lose their remaining child(ren) should another attack happen.
The other faculty members dismiss the idea of another war starting especially so soon after the siege by the Trix but Codatorta knew better than to dismiss the idea especially since the Dragon Fire has resurfaced. Not that he blames Bloom, she's a victim in these circumstances but they say, 'when it rains, it pours' and there's no way the Trix are the only ones after the Dragon's Fire. More and more criminals and villains will target the schools to get to Bloom and one day the civilians of Magix will get fed up as they are continuously swept up in the attacks.
Codatorta dreads when that day will come but for now, he has to focus on the present, speaking of which, Codatorta watches as he sees an unfamiliar guy petting a dragon and whistles in astonishment, "Is that the new guy? Did he find his dragon already? That was quick."
When Saladin informed him of a last-minute new hire, Codatorta had his doubts and looking at the new guy right now, he still does but can you blame him? The new guy, 'Kaneki', looks quite skinny almost as if you could snap him in half like you would a stick but Codatorta knew better than to judge someone by their looks. If he had the strength and skill to back up Saladin's recommendation then no one can argue against his hiring.
As if reading his thoughts, Helia shakes his head with a small smile on his lips as he comments on the other's grin, "You want to fight him, don't you?"
"You know me so well." Codatorta gives a hearty laugh and pats Helia on the shoulder and calls Kaneki. Upon hearing his name, Kaneki looks away from Eris to see a gruff and burly man beside Helia gesturing him to come hither. Codatorta places his hands on his hips as he gives Kaneki a once-over, "Ha, Saladin didn't mention much about you but he says you're a decent fighter. Enough to probably give me trouble."
"Definitely," Kaneki responds without hesitation.
Codatorta roars with laughter before wiping a tear from his eye. Now, all that's left is proving whether Kaneki's confidence comes from his faith in his skills or just false bravado. "Oh, I hope you can back up that confidence. Come, we'll head to the old arena."
They head to the vestiges of the training arena. Codatorta begins to stretch out his muscles before saying to Kaneki, "You are free to pick any weapon you choose. Is there any you prefer?"
"I'd rather go hand-to-hand combat."
"Suit yourself."
'Is this really happening? What should I do? This guy reminds me a little of that investigator but if I go all out won't he get hurt? I shouldn't risk it.'
Codatorta swings a fist but Kaneki ducks before throwing an uppercut to the gut. Codatorta grunts as he stumbles back. He stands up straight and crosses his arms, glaring sternly at Kaneki, who flinches and avoids his gaze, feeling like a little kid who is being scolded.
"Stop messing around. I can tell you're holding back your strength, and it's insulting. In battle, one must give it their all or they'll just be making a mockery of their opponents and themselves. Whether they are weak enough for you to dominate them or you fear the devastation you cause in your wake. Never disrespect one's skills and convictions."
Kaneki knew that he couldn't actually fight with his full strength despite this being a world with magic and myth, the man before him is still human and yet as he looked at that steely gaze, he couldn't disrespect his convictions.
"Alright then." Kaneki takes in a deep breath and gets into position. Seeing that Kanekiiss finally taking this seriously, Codatorta also gets into position. Nothing happens in those few brief seconds but Codatorta suddenly launches at Kaneki who dodges to the side and counters with a kick to the head.
"Excellent." Codatortaguffawsw as he brings up his arm to block the blow and grabs Kaneki's leg whipping him into the ground. Kaneki breaks free of his grip by twisting his body then jumps back, creating some distance.
The intense fight caught the attention of some students who came close for a better look, and they began to cheer and shout. Helia couldn't blame them, this duel is impressive beyond measure. No one could come close to matching Codatorta in battle.
"Whoa, this is amazing."
"Hey, Helia, what's going on?"
"Who's Codatorta fighting against? That guy doesn't look familiar."
"Kaneki. He's a teaching assistant who's starting this year."
"He's superhuman. To think there was someone who could be equal to Codatorta. I wanna go against him."
"Like you'd be able to do anything."
As the two bickered, a crowd slowly began to grow and it was then Helia realises the purpose of the duel that Codatorta proposed. When his uncle informed him of a new teaching assistant who would start this year, Helia was sceptical, especially learning that the new TA had no military experience. There's no way the students would respect him but watching this duel, he realises that Kaneki would do fine and that's what Codatorta wanted to show.
"This is the new guy on the rota? At least he's strong." Helia looks to see James strolling over sipping on a juice box.
"James? I thought you were gonna apply for the army this year."
"That was the plan." James shakes the juice box and realising it is empty, he begins to play with the box by crushing it and then inflating it. "But plans change. My parents weren't happy, especially with what happened to Jasper but Red Fountain has helped me out, so I figured I could return the favour."
With the mention of Jasper, Helia decides not to probe any further and they return their attention to the fight. Kaneki and Codatorta stood on opposite ends of the arena, it's clear that they intended to finish this fight and the crowd is loving it.
"We've held on long enough, it's time to finish this." Codatorta sprints with his fist raised for the final blow.
'You're strong, stronger than a lot of Doves that I fought but even you wouldn't survive if I used my full strength. Still,l I can't spit on your convictions so I'll hit you with whatever I can.' Kaneki lunges with a wide grin, adrenaline coursing through his veins as well as a certain buzz of energy.
Kaneki raises his fist ignorant of the dark magic billowing out although some of the spectators were not.
"What's he doing?" Helia's eyes widen at the surgery of magic.
"Look out!" James leaps from the bannister and rushes to the arena but there is no way he can reach in time. Sensing the devastating amount of power, Codatorta reacts according by kicking the back of Kaneki's knees then grabbing his wrist, forcing the blast upwards.
"What the hell?!" Is one of the many yells coming from the students who shield themselves from the blast of air threatening to send them flying. Once the dust settles and the magic fades, the arena is left silent till a roar of cheers erupts from the students.
"That was amazing!" Codatorta grabs the scruff of Kaneki's shirt and yanks him to his feet. "When you came at me with your magic, it took me by complete surprise. If it were anyone else then I don't think they would have been able to counter."
"Magic?"
Codatorta took note of the confusion on Kaneki's face and explained further, "Yeah, your magic, that's what that explosion was - a blast of magical energy."
Kaneki looks at his hand that released the blast, "But I don't have magic."
"Really?" Codatorta scratches his head before glancing at the cheering students. "Then it might be best to keep this secret to the students. I'll inform Saladin so he can teach you the basics. Can't have you losing control all haphazardly."
"Thank you for your help."
'Magic, huh? This is getting troublesome.' So not only does he have to control and hide his ghoul side but, he also has to make sure that his newfound magic doesn't go haywire and injure anyone. Why does he even have magic? It's not like he needs it.
Although, it would be fun to learn magic. What kind of spells will he end up learning? He wants something that would dazzle Hinami, he can just imagine her bright brown eyes sparkling with glee and her bright smile that lights up the room. Okay, he has to learn an amazing spell that's just as cute and brilliant as Hinami.
"You're welcome. Now, I think you should soothe your adoring fans before they riot." Codatorta is a little late as the students excitedly flock to their location and make their adoration known. Codatorta reacted fast and avoided being crushed by the crowd, he abandons Kaneki to inform Saladin about his magic.
"You are so awesome!"
"How did you get so strong? I don't know anyone who could go toe-to-toe with Codatorta."
Kaneki is overwhelmed by the sheer number of students along with their bombardment of questions but there is one that makes everyone in the vicinity pause at the sure absurdity of the statement.
"Look at this bird you roasted."
Everyone turns to a young brunet with dark skin and a bright grin holding up a slightly blackened bird, with bits of burnt feathers sticking out of it, for everyone to see.
Kaneki had so many questions like why did you pick it up? Why are you still holding it when your hands are bright red from the heat? But Kaneki decided to address what he believed to be most important, the bite mark.
"Did you try to eat it?"
"Yeah, wasn't very tasty. I think I swallowed some feathers." The brunet examines the bird before looking back at the crowd who stared at him like he was an alien. "What?"
"Were you dropped on your head as a baby?"
"Hey!" The brunet whines as the other specialists begin to tease him, especially upon finding out the bird had actually smacked him straight in the head. Kaneki used this opportunity to sneak away with Helia's help and they head back to the dragon stables.
With all the hullabaloo, no one noticed the lone specialist who stood far from the crowd, James watched how Kanekiwass fawned over before escaping the horde with Helia and he hated it. That magic... it's dangerous and evil. Just like the Trix.
Maybe he's overreacting but if there's a chance that Kaneki will become a danger to Red Fountain then James will carry out his duty and exterminate the threat without hesitation. He owes it to Jasper after all.
Lightrock Monastery
After 3 days of isolation, Icy was finally released from isolation and allowed to be reunited with her sisters. That last decision caused a major stir amongst the employees as they felt that Trix being together is detrimental to the effects of rehabilitation but the higher-ups reminded them that no one is beyond redemption, which was easy for them to say as they weren't the ones dealing with the Trix on a regular basis, and were forced to drop the matter.
"Hey girls," Icy greets as a guard tries to escort her to the table where her sisters sat. Emphasis on 'tries'. Just to be a prat, Icy would dig her heels into the ground causing the guard to stumble every few steps, she was hoping that she would frustrate the guard enough for him to lose composure and hit her, let him stoop down to the levels of the criminals here.
To her annoyance, he simply speeds up his pace while keeping a tight grip on her arm, Icy stumbles and isn't able to get her footing until she is right at the picnic table which is when the guard lets her go.
"Thank you for your cooperation, I hope you enjoy this beautiful day," the guard says with a bright grin that didn't quite reach his eyes before leaving to join his fellow brethren.
"Jackass." Icy clicks her tongue as she plops beside Darcy who grins as she offers her some water.
"I really aspire to be your level of petty."
"You'll get there one day," Icy assures flipping her hair.
"How was solitary? Did you see the dents I left in the door or the bloodstains?"
"Must have put me in another one," Icy responds.
"You know there are other ways to mess with these idiots other than giving yourself brain damage."
"I am a woman of action," Stormy huffs. "You can sit in the back all you want, four-eyes."
"I'm not a masochist unlike a certain someone," Darcy shoots back. "I seriously believe that getting battered turns you on. How else would you explain your constant losing streak?"
"Future queens, as amusing as this is, I have something interesting to share," Icy interjects in their bantering before revealing the deranged orderly she met in isolation and his proposal.
"Bet he was just a trapped set by these sparkle-snorting pixies."
"What do you think Darcy?"
Darcy holds her chin as she ponders the information given before addressing her sisters. "Doubt it. Lightrock is all about rehabilitation through kindness and healing. They'll never stoop to underhanded tactics that will tempt anyone back into crime."
"So someone actually snuck into Lightrock?" That's an impressive feat considering the temple exists in a pocket dimension that is difficult to access unless you're a Templar or Knight. Not even the guards can leave whenever they want nor do they know how to. At least that's what they've heard through the grapevine.
"Whatever that thing was, he went through the trouble of secretly breaking into the Lightrock Monastery, I doubt he's actually left just because Icy insulted him."
"You think he has other business?"
"Yes so keep your eyes and ears open for anything unusual."
"Reconnaissance is so boring though," Stormy grumbles when she spots the guards talking, one jerks his head in their direction which she points out to her sisters. "Hey. Guards."
"We've been too quiet. They're suspicious." Darcy gets off her seat and stretches until her back cracks. She points towards the stalls set up on the field. "Let's head to the market and get some food."
"Don't we have to pay with nice conversations and compliments? So not worth it. Let's just wait for dinner." Nonetheless, the trio heads to the stalls and looks around for anything interesting, Icy spies a glance at the guards and unfortunately, the guards decide to follow them not-so-discreetly.
"We'll have to talk another time," Icy warns and Stormy clicks her tongue but decides to start on a different topic that wouldn't get her in trouble.
As the sisters indulged in some idle talk, they missed the small figure making their way to the girls. He was sneaky about it, skipping up to other people with a bright smile as he handed them a flower from his basket, but the Trix were his target and he had a special little flower for one of them.
He stops right in front of Darcy and holds out a rose for her with a shy smile, "Pretty flower for a pretty lady?"
Darcy rolls her eyes but since she has to play nice, she accepts the flower only for something sharp to be jabbed into her skin. Darcy pulls her hand back with a yelp and to her disbelief finds a sewing needle sticking out of her palm. She looked to the boy who held his hands up to his mouth as if in shock and it would look that way to anyone from a distance, but he was right in front of her and he didn't dare hide his glee from her.
"You little-!" On instinct, Darcy punches him square in the nose and, upon hearing the gasps of everyone within the vicinity, promptly realises that that was exactly what he wanted. She had no time to react before the ramifications of her action hit her hard. Literally. Darcy is tackled facedown to the ground, the guards roughly yanking her arms behind her back as he handcuffs her.
Chaos breaks out as throngs of guards converge on their location, Icy and Stormy fight fervently to get to their sister but are overwhelmed. A guard shrieks in pain as Stormy leaps onto his back and tears his ear off with her teeth, blood drips down her lips and she cackles maniacally as she is dragged away.
As Icy is hauled away, she spots a familiar orderly who gives her a sly smile and waves at her with something in his hand, she squints and sees a spool of thread? What the fuck does that mean?
As if reading her thoughts, the orderly's grin grows and he jerks his head in a certain direction. Icy follows his line of vision and Icy spots the boy who is being coddled by a woman who whispers sweet comforts as she pets his hair oblivious to the little smirk he had as he watches the scene before him.
'He planned this.' Icy growls as she realises that freak collaborated with the brat to purposely antagonise them. They're both gonna regret this. She swears vengeance on him, vowing to make him suffer until his mind breaks, that includes the brat.
Kaneki's Room- Night
Kaneki had been sitting at his desk with his head in his hands as he tried to purge all of the humiliating memories of failing to ride Eris. Honestly, if he used both sets of fingers to count all the times he's fallen while airborne, there wouldn't be any left to spare. What's worse is when he finally got somewhat comfortable with being airborne, Eris decided to increase velocity and he ended up accidentally choking her into unconsciousness.
Helia, with all the patience and compassion of a saint, finally lost it and broke down laughing. He actually fell to his hands and knees and even broke into a coughing fit from just how hard he laughing. Kaneki was not amused. Helia tried to apologise and assured him that he wasn't the first person to choke out their dragon but it didn't mean much since he was still staying to stifle his laughter. Eventually, they decided to leave flying lessons for another time.
Luckily, none of the students were there to see his blunders, if they had then he'd have lost all the respect he received from the duel.
Kaneki tried to focus back on the handbook that was given by the school, it outlines his duties as a teaching assistant. He was in the middle of the section that explained recognising the signs of abuse. He was on neglect.
There are 4 types of neglect:
Physical - Food, clothing or shelter is not adequately provided.
Educational - A proper education is not being provided.
Emotional - There is little to no nurture or stimulation given. This could be through ignoring, humiliating, intimidating or isolating them.
Medical - Lack of proper health care. This includes dental care and refusing or ignoring medical recommendations.
Kaneki read over that part multiple times, but he couldn't continue because the memory of him choking Eris would come back causing him to die inside.
While wallowing in shame all alone in his room, he received a phone call from Saladin asking him to come to his office. Kaneki supposed it was to finalise everything about his employment, so he made his way to Saladin's office.
Saladin's Office
Saladin stares at his phone for a moment before placing it on his desk, he ponders about his new staff member and what type of person he is. When Faragonda called him to make a request the last thing he would have expected was to be asked to accept a young man as a new teaching assistant who also happened to be a ghoul.
He never even knew they existed. He has heard of a ghoul before but the word usually referred to grave robbers although the definitions might not really matter at this moment. Kaneki is now under his employment and he is a ghoul. He'll need flesh to sustain himself. As long as he doesn't kill unnecessarily then he is free to acquire his food how he likes.
But his diet isn't the only problem. His ability to communicate with dragons as well as the appearance of his magic, both of which should not have happened.
He didn't go into much depth into his research about ghoul history but he's pretty sure that ghouls were unable to wield magic. They also didn't have any connections to dragons so there should be no reason for Kaneki to communicate with them yet he can.
This is getting far too complicated. Perhaps he should consult Faragonda, she is the one who brought Kaneki to him after all. To deal with his explosive magic, Saladin can just give him some lessons to help him learn to control his magic. This would be the best course of action.
A knock on his door reminds him of his situation, he asks the person on the other side to come in before fixing a stack of papers and moving them to the side. Kaneki comes in and Saladin beckons him closer, gesturing to the open seat.
"Ah, Kaneki, have a seat." Saladin sorts through some papers then hands it over to Kaneki and gets to business. "First things first, welcome to Red Fountain, I hope my nephew has helped you adapt to your duties here."
"He's helped me out a lot."
"I'm glad. Faragonda has explained your situation but there are some things I need to confirm such as your diet."
"I am capable of scavenging corpses for my own food."
"That's great but I must ask that you bring no..." Saladin trails off as he tries to think of an appropriate word, "parts back to the school."
"I won't."
"Would that be alright for you? How long can you last between meals?"
"I only need to eat once a month."
"Thank goodness," Saladin sighs in relief leaning back in his chair. "The thought of having those in my school makes me deeply uncomfortable but since you don't need to eat much, you don't have to store anything in your room."
"Do you know where you can scavenge?"
"The East District," Kaneki informs. "I've heard it's a lawless area, there's an abundance of murders, suicides and overdosed victims."
"Makes sense." Saladin nods. They then focus on more important topics such as his employment. Kaneki had been given a bank account and card so he could receive his pay as well as an ID card, he also had to register his handprint which gave him access to places that the students couldn't access.
With everything settled and Kaneki's employment was complete, he was allowed to leave but Saladin informs Kaneki that he will set up lessons to help Kaneki learn how to control his magic.
Pixie Village - 14th September
Faith sat on top of a hill leaning against a tree trunk as he watched the Flower of Life spit out a pixie baby into the arms of their loving parents. He unknowingly had the fabric of his shorts clenched between his fingers when the father kissed his newborn's cheek. Something he, himself, has never experienced.
In the early days, when magic just started to integrate into the daily lives of the people, the Flower of Life had long since birthed pixies without hesitation or provocation but as magic developed, the pixies created a spell which would allow them to create their own child through the Flower of Life. Once the child was born, their parents could recognise them immediately through their magical bond.
However, there was no one to claim Faith which meant he was a child of the flower. The only one to exist in some millennia. It was strange, to say the least, but he was still a pixie and thus a member of their community. Despite this, no one wanted to adopt him leading Ninfea to take charge of raising him despite her duties as leader/guardian of the village.
Still, it didn't dull the ache that came from not belonging to any family. Don't get him wrong, Ninfea was a wonderful parent to him but she wasn't his mother, she couldn't be. She took her sworn oath seriously and would let nothing get in the way of her duty whether it'd be love or life.
As time passed, no other children of the flower had been born and his birth was believed to be a fluke which wasn't comforting at all. Who is he? Why was he born? These questions plagued his mind throughout his life yet yielded no answers.
Upon earning his magic pop, Ninfea sat him down along with numerous other pixies and explained their duties which is to help their bonded fairy grow and flourish into guardian fairies.
Faith wondered what his bonded fairy was like. Is she cute and sweet? Is she tough? Does she have a temper? Will she like him?
Whoever she is, he hopes that he will be good enough for her. He's trained hard to fully utilise his magic pop but it'll mean nothing if he doesn't impress her.
His musings are interrupted by Glim who flew over to him and began to babble excitedly with Lockette who followed soon after. "Hey, Faith," Lockette greets as she lands beside him.
"Hey, Lockette, what's going on?"
"Piff is here," Lockette informs, "but Aisha couldn't come so she's just waiting in a hotel in the city."
"Then we should go see her after the ceremony." Glim babbles and Faith nods before adding, "With lots of yummy treats." Faith took Glim's hand who in turn took Lockette's and they headed to the ceremony together.
They are joined by other pixies who are taking the same pathway as them including their friends.
"I can't wait to have some pumpkin pie; Caramel is the best baker in Pixie Village." Chatta squeals hands on her cheeks, drool leaking from the corner of her lip.
"I just hope there's enough so a fight doesn't break out," Faith sighs remembering what happened last year.
"You're the reason it broke out," Fixit snickers flying backwards with his hands behind his head only to slam into a tree. His friends ignore him as he crashes to the ground and even has the audacity to continue without him. "Wait for me!"
"This ceremony will be a disaster." Tunefacepalmss.
"Oh, please, what's the worst that could happen?" Chatta would soon come to regret her words.
In episode 2, there's a quote from the show, "Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, children and seniors". It explicitly states that there are children in Lightrock even if we haven't seen them. That'd be so interesting to see in the show.
I was supposed to mention the East District in Chapter 2 but forgot. Essentially, Kaneki would have overheard Palladium and Pierre, the shop owner, discuss how the East District is slowly becoming out of control due to the police being overwhelmed by the aftermath of the Army of Decay.
Also, the reason why Faith refers to his bonded fairy as 'her' is because fairies are mainly females. He doesn't know that Kaneki is a guy.
