After you and Liam broke up, you were devastated. All you could do was cry, cry, and cry some more. Liam honestly didn't understand the impact the breakup had on you. He thought that it was just fine because you guys were still best friends, but to you, seeing him brought back too many good memories. It was kind of bittersweet, you loved seeming Liam, but when you did it almost brought you to tears. You began to write songs based off of your breakup with Liam, and then you got a new boyfriend. Things didn't work out with him, so you were just pumping music out. You were always writing, whether it be about Liam or your ex, Aidan. In the midst of your heartbreak, Liam got a new girlfriend. She was lovely. She was prettier than you, skinnier than you, and Liam loved her more than he ever loved you. It was obvious. He just looked at her with that look of extreme love. It pained you, but you liked her. You hated yourself for liking her; you were supposed to hate her because you were still in love with Liam. The sad thing was that disliking her was impossible. You ending up writing a song about Liam called Stone Cold, but Liam didn't know that it was written about him. He always thought that it was about Aidan because he didn't see your breakup as a big deal. You had an interview with Ellen today. You got ready and left the house. Liam's girlfriend knew that you and Liam are best friends, so she was more than happy to let Liam join you in the interview today. You were excited to see him, as it had been a while. You two got to the set and finished with hair and makeup. Then, you heard your cue. You and Liam walked on stage beside one another.
"So nice to have you guys back!" Ellen said, excitedly.
"It's great to be here." You responded.
After about 30 minutes of chatting, Ellen said something that caught your eye.
"So we're going to play a game."
"Okay."
"We are going to read some of your song lyrics, and you're going to break them down for us."
"Cool, sounds fun."
"Alright, we asked the fans on Twitter what songs we should have you do."
You inhaled, sharply, already knowing that they would be asking you to break down your newest song, Stone Cold.
"Well, it looks like Stone Cold is the winner."
I straightened in my seat, preparing myself for what was to happen next.
"So before we get started, why don't you tell us what this song is about or what inspired you to write this song."
"Well—basically, I was going through a really tough breakup at the time. Writing was my escape, so I began to put my feelings into words."
That's what made Liam straighten up beside you, his grip around your frail body getting looser.
"We'll start from the beginning."
"Okay."

"Okay, that part means that you're like upset that he's moved on, but you feel bad for not being happy for him. Therefore, it's like 'Oh god knows I tried to be happy.' Also, it's like you need to know that I'm happy, and even if I can't understand, I'll take the pain. All you have to do is tell me the truth, and I'll be okay. If you're happy with her, then I'm happy too."

"Uhh..." I began, starting to get choked up.
"It's like at a party or whatever and you're not having fun because the man you want is dancing with someone else, so you're on your phone trying to act like you don't care. Then, it's like I used to be your everything, and now she's your everything."

I wish I could mend this but here's my goodbye

"Umm...it means that you don't want to feel that way. You don't want to be cold, you want to be happy for him, but it's hard. And then it's like you wish you could fix it, but if that won't work, your definition of goodbye would be 'I'm happy for you' because you knew people always say that goodbyes are really difficult. So for you, saying you're happy for him is just as hard as saying goodbye." You finally finished, your voice cracking and eyes watering. Your eyes were so full with tears that you knew that if you blinked, you would start to cry. As soon as Ellen began to talk, you broke down.
"So we can see that you've put a lot of hard wo—" She started, but could finish because tears were rolling down your rosy cheeks. You quickly turned to Liam and buried your face in his black button- down. He was shocked and began to rub your back. Ellen hurriedly called for a break, and Liam took you backstage. He set you on the couch in your dressing room and waited for you to calm down.
"Y/N, there is no need to cry over him. He's not worth your tears."
"Liam, stop, I'm fine." You said, wiping your tears.
"No, you're not fine Y/N. It's okay to admit that you're not okay."
"I promise, Liam. I'm okay."
"No you're not."
"LIAM, STOP TELLING ME I'M NOT FINE! I'M FINE, AND I KNOW IT! GOD, LIAM! THE SONG ISN'T ABOUT HIM! IT'S ABOUT YOU!" You shouted before you realized what you were saying.
"Oh my god, Babygirl..." He began.
"I don't want to hear it, Liam. Don't feel bad for me, now. It's whatever, I'm perfectly fine. I'm a grown woman, and I can take care of myself." I said before leaving the dressing room and slamming the door behind me.
