Scotty McCreery - Old King James
Told in three views. Niall (your grandfather), Your Mum (very short) and Yourself
(This is just an imagine!)
Niall Imagine
Preacher gave it to him when he was eight, that Sunday morning he got saved in that little church
(Niall's POV)
"Congratulations Niall. You are now an ambassador. Do you know what that means?" asked Pastor Mike.
I shook my head no. I had no idea what an ambassador was. I mean sure I heard Pastor Mike say it before but I didn't really understand what it meant.
"That means, that now since you have accepted Jesus into your heart, you are to do his work. In order for you to understand on how to do his work, I am going to give you a bible. I know that you already have one but I am going to give you another one so that you can take with you while you do his work."
He handed me a bible and I took and held it close to me knowing that it was to help me through times.
Grandaddy totted it to Bible school I bet back then it looked brand new, not a faded word
It was time for VBS (Vacation Bible School) and I totted it with me everywhere even to snack time and game time which one of my teachers held. It still looked brand new like when Pastor Mike gave it to me. There's no scratches or tears on the cover, the pages aren't bent, you can clearly read the words.
Now the cover's torn and the leather's worn... On that Old King James. He took it with him overseas, England, France and Germany. Right there in the middle of hell. Said he read it every night, he swore that it'd saved his life. His only hope when there was no hope left. Was in that Old King James
I just got drafted! So now I'm packing my bags and I look over to my nightstand where my bible sat. I didn't place it in my duffle bag I carried it with me to the bus, to the plane and to the boat. It's still in pretty good condition.
The fighting is so bad. There's so much fire and burning it's like we're in hell but not in hell. I've been through England (where this bible was made), France and Germany. I read it whenever I could and it gave me hope even when everyone else thought that there wasn't any hope anymore.
The others just didn't know how I did it. I also read it every night. People laughed at me and but I found my hope and peace in the King James Bible that Pastor Mike gave to me when I was 8.
Passed it down to Momma on the day he died
(Your Mum's POV)
My daddy just died. The person reading his will, just handed me his bible and said that he passed it down to me. His only daughter. He could've passed it down to any of my brothers but he passed it down to me.
Sat there for the longest time just gathering the dust. But when life would take a sharp turn every now and then, And she would just start missing him, I'd see her pick it up
I sat it on my coffee table where it usually sits now and I can start to see that it's starting to collect some dust. I know daddy wouldn't be very happy with me if he saw it like this.
Every now and then when a problem hurt our family or when I would just start missing my daddy, I'd see my son/daughter watch me pick it up.
Now the cover's torn and the leather's worn... On that Old King James. You'll find on every other page, yellow lines or tear drop stains. Every chapter of that good book.Been through cancer, war and crazy kids
The cover on that bible that my daddy gave me, the cover is now torn and on every other page that I look at, there is either a tear stain or yellow lines on every chapter. It's been through all the wars that my daddy was in, the cancer he had and all my crazy kids.
all the stupids things I did.I may never know the toll I took... On her and that Old King James
(Your POV)
I've done a lot of stupid things but I guess I never really took the time to think about what I put my mum and that bible through.
Yeah I'm the one who's got it now. She said read it when you're feeling down and I said Yes Ma'am Now the cover's torn and the leather's worn... On that Old King James
I've got my grandpa's bible now.
"Y/N, read it when your're feeling down because it will make you feel better." said my mum.
"Yes ma'am." I told her and now even though the cover is torn and the leather is worn, I still read it.
This bible is very special to me. Its been passed down to two generations and then probably a few more if it lasts that long.
Now the cover's torn and the leather's worn on that Old King James
A/N: I hope that you liked this and remember that this is just for this and please check out the song. It's really good and when it says that the bible looked brand new, not a faded word... now the cover's torn and the leather is worn on that Old King James
What he is saying is that when you get a bible, it should look brand new but when you read it and read it and study from it, learn from it, the pages should be yellowed, it should be falling apart. When that happens, from what I said above, then that means that you have been using it and learning "eating" what God has given you.
