You see each other after the break up (punk series)
Harry: Ever since things with Harry had turned sour, you'd taken up exercising. Nothing strenuous or intense by any means, just enough to get the tension from work out. Ever since the new store opened in New York, your workload had increased tenfold and without Harry to fuck the tension from your body, you had to resort to other, more conventional methods. The alarm on your phone sounded at 6:30 am, Dream Street blaring about feeling the rhythm swaying as you jolted awake. Like every other morning, the ceiling eluded to give you any answers about your life while you glared at the black light fixture and with a groan you rolled from the comfort of your queen-sized bed. Feet hitting the cool hard wood of your bedroom floor, you scurry into the bathroom to settle your feet against the plush bathroom rug Harry had purchased after realizing your original bathroom rug sucked. You wash your face and brush your teeth quickly before stripping out of your pajamas in favor of some short hot pink spandex shorts and a black "Look like a princess, sweat like a beast" shirt with the sleeves ripped off. You hop around while trying to tug your running shoes on because untying the laces only to retie them seemed so mundane. You attach your iPhone to the strap on your bicep and shove your ear buds in place before locking up the apartment and head off down the road for your morning run. This is your favorite time to run, the rising sun setting high behind the early morning foggy clouds and it makes for such a picturesque scene you find that waking up early isn't such a hassle. There's a brisk chill and you begin to rethink the shorts but remember, your legs get sweaty after a run and the short spandex makes it worth it to see the backwards glances the men give you when you run by. You're rounding a corner in the park a few blocks from your apartment when you spot a familiar mop of curly brown hair pacing back and forth while on the phone. He's dressed in black athletic shorts and neon running shoes, chest bare and tattoos on display. Harry looks frustrated, annoyed, and sweaty as he argues on the phone and as you draw closer at a much slower pace than you'd been running at, his eyes rise to meet yours. He stares, clearly checked out of the conversation before he hangs up suddenly and gives you a cautious wave. You debate stopping and decide that you need to stretch your hamstrings. Slowing to a stop, you stretch your hamstrings against the bench while glancing over at him. "Morning," he says slowly, nodding his head as he straps his phone to his bicep and you smile. "Morning," you repeat, waiting to see if he'll say anything else. He doesn't. Just stares, taking in your features quietly before scratching the back of his neck nervously. "Heard the new store was doing well," he finally states, a small smile gracing his features and you nod. "Very well, mother is happy I'm home," you reply, dragging your top lip against your bottom teeth and Harry nods. "Thought London was home now?" He questions quietly, watching as you halt after trying to make a hasty escape and continue on your run. "It used to be," you respond, back turned before you take off down the path blaring your music to drown out the sound of your thudding heart.
Liam: "We're out of milk... and bread... and cheese... and tea... and coffee... basics we're out of everything :(" The text message from your roommate reads and you roll your eyes with a chuckle. "Alright, I'll stop by the market on my way home... text me the list," you respond, setting your phone aside to continue with your work. A series of messages comes in over the next few moments and you shake your head at how spastic and forgetful your roommate is. "DON'T FORGET THE WINE," the last message reads. You're in the process of putting the last pieces of makeup into your kit when you realize the cherry red Chanel lipstick is missing. Looking around the set, you discover that you can't find the prized lipstick tube anywhere and with a sad sigh, you close the kit and prepare to leave. Your boots tap against the floor of Whole Foods as you scroll through the messages to start at the beginning while you grab a cart and begin the journey through the store. You place a phone call to your bread picky roommate and list off the choices while standing in front of the bakery, hip cocked as she mulls over her choices. "Mallory... I don't have all day," you tease, giving the baker behind the counter an apologetic smile as she finally decides on a regular loaf of bread and a loaf of bacon bread stating, "it's bacon and bread... how could that be anything but delicious?" After hanging up, you continue down the aisle towards the tea but come to a sudden stop. At the end of the tea aisle is Liam and the pink haired employee from his store. There's one cart in front of them as they mull over the decision of which tea to purchase. Your heart stops and plummets into the bottom of your stomach as your breathing hitches. A lump forms in your throat and you know you should move but you're too shocked to do so. Liam glances to his side and you make eye contact with the ex you hadn't realized you missed so much until that very moment. His eyes widen in shock and you watch as he takes a step towards you. You panic and run, leaving the cart behind as you rush through the store towards the entrance, which seems like it's on the other side of the world as you try and escape. "Where's the groceries... are you alright?" Mallory questions, looking around the corner when she hears the front door open to see you standing in the doorway with no grocery bags. "Liam was there," you explain sadly, leaning into Mallory's comforting hug as she leads you to the couch for a night of action flicks and ice cream.
Niall: "Please love, please come!" Louis' girlfriend pleads on the other side of the phone and you sigh. A year ago, had someone told you that you'd be friends with Louis Tomlinson and his girlfriend, you probably would've reported them. Yet, here you are fielding their pleading requests for you to attend the signing of Harry Styles' record release party. The newest addition to Harry's label had skyrocketed and Harry was throwing a huge celebration for the young mans success. "You know Niall will be there and I really don't want to deal with him, not after the reason behind our breakup... what if he's there with her?" You question, shifting the phone to speaker as you fold your scrubs and put them away in your work drawer. "There will be loads of people there... you'll hardly even see him. Besides, we'll deck you out so if you happen to see this whore then you'll lock a dime!" She pleads and you know at this point that you'll agree. A few hours later, you're dressed in a bubble gum pink two-tone high wasted dress and nude heals. Louis gives you a bright smile, tugging on one of your loose curls affectionately before he helps you into the backseat of his Land Rover. You talk with his girlfriend the entire time, filling his car with laughter and gossip that Louis can't ignore. You stay at his side as the three of you enter the party, heading straight for the VIP section to greet Harry and the newest artist. "Louis... Katie... Y/N you made it! Now the party can start," Harry teases, pulling you for a tight hug while lifting you off your feet to twirl you about before greeting the other two at your side. Harry's a generous host, passing you drink after drink while chatting happily with everyone and praising Matthew for all his success and hard work. You're on your forth drink, glancing around the crowded party when you notice a mess of blonde hair making its way through the party towards the stairs leading to the VIP section. Holly is at Niall's back, hand laced with his in an all black dress with her tattoos on full display. You set your drink down and look to make a quick escape but realize that the only way back down the party is the staircase Niall and Holly are climbing. Zayn appears out of nowhere, sliding in front of you to block your view as he passes you another drink. "Keep drinking... when the coast is clear, we'll get out of here" he says in understanding, taking another puff from his cigarette and you do as he says. "You got her?" You faintly hear Louis question and you realize at this point, you're completely hammered and unable to make rational decisions. "Yeah... she'll be fine, I'm just gonna take her home and let her sleep it off," Zayn responds. "You're gonna take her back to your house so you can take advantage of her?" You hear a familiar angry Irish voice state, and through the hazy drunk film covering your eyes you see Niall in a standoff with Zayn. "No mate, that's your thing... remember?" Zayn snaps, pushing past the blonde to reach for you. "Don't go with him," Niall pleads, taking your arm in his hold and you're too drunk to realize what's about to happen. A fist flies across and strikes Niall in the cheek sending the angry Irishmen backwards on his ass before you're being lifted over a strong shoulder. A few hours later, as you're retching into the toilet, Zayn gathers your hair at the nape of your neck and reassures you everything will be alright. And you have a feeling that he means more than the impending hangover that will strike in the morning.
Louis: "What's her name?" You question as Louis stands before you in the doorway of the apartment you shared with your best friend. "Katie." "Is that all?" You inquire of him. He had shown up out of nowhere and you immediately regretted not moving somewhere he couldn't find. "Well I just wanted to be the one to tell you about her so you wouldn't believe anything that the media or anyone else says." "Do you really think I care though?" You ask, trying not to sound too rude. "Yeah, because you care about me." His tone was confident but his expression showed defeat. "I do?" "Yeah, I know you do." "What makes you say that?" He pauses to find the right words. "You wouldn't have left me that note on the kitchen table if you didn't." It was true, you did still care about him, very much so, but you certainly didn't care about his latest squeeze. You knew there had to be some other reason as to why he was standing on your doorstep. "Is this it? Are you finished?" Your words sounded harsh now, you wanted him gone. "Yeah I guess," he says disappointed. "Alright well enjoy your time with her," you reply, not knowing what else you could say in this moment that didn't include screaming at him or slamming the door in his face. "Bye," he responds, not wanting to even mention Katie anymore. You shut the door as he goes to turn away slamming your back against it. Your friend sits on the couch as she had been throughout the entire exchange. "You alright?" She asks as she watches you. You ignore her and open the door back up quickly. "Louis!" You shout down the hallway after him, watching as he quickly turns around. You run to his side, wrapping your arms around his neck, tears beginning to flow from your eyes. "Louis I'm sorry, but I had to leave," you explain, your head resting on his shoulder. His arms are tightly squeezed around your waist. "I know, I don't blame you, I should have acted better. You needed me and I wasn't there." You pull away from him and his hands rest on your hips. Your face is swelling and your eyes are already turning red. "Don't cry babe, you're better off now," he says, wiping the stream of tears from both of your cheeks. "You should spend some time with Ian, is that his name? The guy you work with?" You slowly nod your head, unsure of why he was recommending this. "Yeah, you should go out with him. I mean I know I was mean to him on a lot of occasions but he did seem like a really nice guy, someone that would treat you the way you deserve." You look at him with complete confusion. "I've got to go though babe," he says abruptly. How had things turned around so quickly? You didn't want to let him go but your hands slowly fall from around him. He leaves a small kiss on your forehead and your heart crushes. You slowly walk back into the apartment as he gets on the elevator. "Everything alright?" Your friend asks yet again once you were back inside, wanting a real answer this time. "He told me I should go out with Ian," you answer confused. "What?" She asks just as confused. You walk around to the couch in a trance. "Yeah, he told me I needed to be with someone who would treat me the way I deserved." "Well that isn't a lie, you need to be with someone who won't lie to you all of the time." The reminder of Louis's previous actions brought more tears to your eyes. "Awe babe don't. He isn't worth crying over." "He told me to date someone else, it's really over." Your words echo in your mind. You had left him almost eight months ago but it had never occurred to you that it was actually over and you would never get back together, which according to Louis's suggestion was how things were going to be.
Zayn: "These designs are gorgeous," Sarah Burton says while flipping through the portfolio you had been working on for the new approaching fashion season. "Thank you," you respond with a smile. Indirectly working for the Alexander McQueen brand was huge but having Sarah accept your ideas for her new collection was an incredible achievement for you. "I'm heading out to lunch here in a few would you like to join me?" She asks you, while still continuing to flip through your sketches. "I would love to." "Good, I would like to discuss some of these ideas you have in more detail." The two of you take a taxi to Santore right around the corner from the offices. "I am very impressed with these," Sarah compliments once more, continuing to flip through the pages once you had been seated. "Thank you so much, that means a lot that you think that," you reply completely gracious. Even though you were one of her styling assistants you had never had a one on one moment with her. You spent most of your time at home thinking up ideas and just emailing them in. Ever since the breakup with Zayn though you had requested to actually have an office in the main building so you could get out of the house which in turn kept your mind off of him. It also helped you to feel like more of an asset to the company. "Where did you get the idea for this one?" Sarah questions, turning the portfolio around, showing you the stained glass inspired mini-dress you had drawn up while standing outside of Temple Church one day. "I just really like the look of stained glass and thought it would make a great pattern, something Mr. McQueen would have loved." Sarah smiles, "You're right, he would have loved this." Your face flushes at the incredible compliment you had just received. You take a look around the lunch crowd that had the dining room completely full. You mull over the faces as Sarah continues to look over your designs. Your eyes soon lock on a familiar face; a very rich familiar face. Louis sits only a few tables away with an empty seat in front of him. You assumed it was for Katie, the new catch he was messing around with after his longtime girlfriend had dropped him because of his impulsive lying. His eyes catch yours and he sends you a smile. You return it and wave slightly. He nudges his head telling you to come over. You hold up a finger telling him to hold on for one second. "I see a friend, do you mind if I go and say hello?" You ask Sarah. "No of course not dear, go ahead." You smile and step from your seat. "What are you into?" Louis asks as he holds his hand out for you to take the seat in front of him. You hesitantly sit down, looking around to make sure Katie wasn't around. "Just having lunch with the boss," you explain. "Oh, and how is that going?" "Great actually, she loves my portfolio," you answer with a confident smile. "Of course she does, your style is amazing." You smile and shake your head, accepting his compliment. A light tap on the shoulder causes you to jump and you turn expecting to see Louis's new catch. Instead though Zayn stands above you and your heart immediately sinks. This was the first time you had seen one another since the breakup. Louis is silent as you turn back to him wide-eyed. "I will let the two of you enjoy your lunch," you say softly. You go to stand up but your legs turn to jelly leaving you unable to remove yourself. Zayn takes your arm and lifts you up. "I've got you," he says. You allow him to help you up from the chair but his touch only makes your legs weaker. He wraps his other arm around your waist and escorts you back to your table, recognizing the empty seat in front of Sarah as yours. Sarah looks up from your sketches as Zayn sits you down in front of her. "What was that all about?" She asks once he leaves. "Nothing, I'm fine," you respond, taking a sip of your water as you try and calm your heart.
