The baby's first illness (pregnancy series)

Harry: You rolled onto your side and flickered your eyes open, groaning as you gazed at the clock on your bedside table, realizing it was only 3 in the morning. You turned your head to look at Harry but the space he usually took up was empty. You furrowed your eyebrows in confusion as you got out of bed and tried to find him. After checking the bathroom you decided to see if he was in Kyler's nursery in the room next to yours. You quietly tip-toed down the cold dark hard wood floor until you peeked your head around the door frame and found your shirtless curly haired husband sitting in the comfy rocking chair in the corner of the room; a sleeping Kyler held comfortingly in his warm arms. A smile crept up on your lips as he gently kissed her forehead before you walked toward him, "Babe, what are you doing?" you whispered as you stood by the chair, kneeling down to kiss your baby girl as well. "I couldn't sleep," he spoke, "this cold she has is scaring me....her nose is all stuffed up and I just....I just don't want her to stop breathing or get a fever or something when we're not around," he muttered with a concerned tone to his voice. "Harry, that won't happen. The doctor said she'll be better in no time....and that medicine he gave us has already helped a lot, she'll be fine alright?" you smiled, kissing his cheek as you lovingly rubbed his shoulder. His eyes locked with yours, a small grin appearing as he nodded his head, "we can put her in the basinet and she can sleep in our room," you spoke as he stood up and followed you to the bedroom. You grabbed the basinet you had used for the first couple weeks after she was born and Harry placed her softly into it. He wrapped one of his strong arms around your waist and pulled you close to him, "I love you," he whispered as you looked down to your baby girl then up to him. "Love you too Harry," you smiled as he leaned down to gently press his lips to yours. "Bed time?" he chuckled as he pulled back the covers to let you in. You nodded your head as he got in after you, instantly snuggling up to his warm body, "sleep okay? She'll be fine," you spoke, tracing the outline of his swallow tattoos with the pads of your fingers. "I know," he muttered as he kissed the top of your head, his quiet snores soon escaping as you drifted off to sleep.

Zayn: You sighed as you looked down at your whimpering baby boy, "Zayn, I think Aiden might have an ear infection," you spoke worriedly as you walked into the bedroom where he was getting ready for an interview he had in the afternoon. He quickly set down the comb he had been using and walked over to you, "wait, what?" he asked concerned while looking down at his baby boy who began to cry out and grab at his ear. "I just took his temperature and he has a fever....I think I need to bring him to the doctors right now," you spoke as you held the crying baby close to your chest. "Well I can't let you go by yourself, I'm coming," he spoke, rubbing Aiden's back soothingly. "Zayn, you can't come...you have an interview with the boys in an hour. It's fine I can go, just help me pack up a bag alright?" you questioned as you walked to the bed and grabbed the blue and gray baby bag. "No, (Y/N), he's sick. My son is more important than sitting in an interview and getting asked questions that I've probably been asked 300 times before. I'm not letting you go by yourself," he spoke sternly as he called up one of the boys to let them know the situation while he grabbed the bag from your hands and placed in a few diapers and other essentials needed when leaving the house. You finally just agreed for him to come with you as Aiden stopped crying, small whimpers still escaping from his lips as his tiny hand kept grabbing for his aching ear. You kissed the top of his head as you walked downstairs with Zayn, watching as he quickly made 2 bottles and put them in the bag as well, "okay, I think that's everything," he spoke as he swung the bag onto his shoulder. "Hey buddy, you'll be alright," he smirked while rubbing the top of Aiden's head and kissing him gently on the forehead. "Ready?" he smiled before kissing your forehead as well. You nodded as you followed him outside and to the car, getting Aiden quickly strapped into his carseat before you took a seat right next to him. Zayn revved up the engine and pulled out of the driveway, "you really didn't have to skip the interview babe," you spoke from the back seat, feeling Aiden's hot forehead and sighing anxiously. "I know, but he's sick and I'm his father, I need to be there. I don't want you to have to go alone when I'm able to come," he said, catching your gaze as he peered into his rear view mirror. "Thanks," you smiled as Aiden began to cry once more. "It's okay my boy, we're almost there," Zayn spoke as he finally pulled up to the doctor's office, grabbing the baby bag from the front seat and helping you get Aiden situated before walking together toward the doctors office.

Liam: "The flu?" Liam asked worriedly as the doctor nodded his head. You both looked at each other and then down to Maddie who was finally asleep in her carseat. After a few minutes of asking questions you both left the doctors office, gathered up the medicine he had prescribed to her, and went back home. You carefully brought her into the house and picked her up from the carseat, placing her gently on the couch in the living room. "Watch her for a minute while I go make a bottle for when she wakes up," you muttered as Liam took a seat next to her, wrapping a soft yellow and pink blanket around her tiny body. A few minutes later you walked back into the living room with a freshly made bottle, watching on as Liam craddled his baby girl in his arms. He looked up at you and smiled, a hint of concern in his eyes, "her breathing...you can hear her lungs are all congested," he spoke nervously. You took a seat next to him, "I know," you murmured, "but the doctor said this medicine will help pretty quickly...if she still has a fever tomorrow we'll bring her back in," you assured him as his hand rested on your leg, slightly squeezing your thigh to tell you he understood. You smiled as he softly pressed his lips to yours, Maddie stirring in his arms and whimpering out as you parted. "Hey sweetie, time for your medicine okay?" Liam spoke happily as he kissed her warm tiny cheeks. You grabbed the medicine, put her correct dosage into the dropper that was provided, and squeezed it into her mouth; her face crinkling in disgust as she swallowed it down. "Well I thought that was going to be a lot more difficult," you chuckled as you grabbed the warm bottle you had made and placed it to her mouth. She slowly but surely gulped down her meal as Liam handed her over to you, "well, this has definitely been the scariest part of parenthood so far," he spoke, watching cheerfully as you fed her in your arms. "Yea, I'm sure we won't be getting much sleep tonight," you laughed as you looked down at her suckling on the bottle. "Yea...no way I'm going to sleep knowing she's all congested like that," he spoke seriously while turning the TV on to a football game. You smirked at how cute and worried he was being, "she'll be fine Liam, don't worry to much okay?" you spoke while grabbing his hand and interlocking your fingers with his. He smiled as he scooted closer to you and took a deep breath, "I know....it's just scary...this is the first time she's been sick and I don't want to do anything wrong." "You won't do anything wrong, you're an amazing father, " you muttered as Maddie's eyes began to slowly close once more. He kissed your cheek, "not as amazing as you are love," he smirked while you placed your sleeping baby girl on the couch next to you, snuggling up in his comforting arms right after.

Niall: "Shit! (Y/N)!" Niall yelled loudly, causing you to look up from the paperwork you had been doing and run into the kitchen where Niall had been feeding Jayden. Your face immediately drained in color as you noticed your baby boy had large red hives all over his body. "What the hell happened?!" you anxiously asked as you picked him up quickly and noticed his breathing wasn't normal. "I...I was feedin' him this pear baby food stuff and...and shit....he started breaking out into hives...I think he's allergic or somethin'" he quickly spoke while showing you the glass jar that held the green pureed pear he had been feeding him. "Okay....okay just stay calm....we need to bring him to the hospital right now, his breathing doesn't sound good," you anxiously spoke, tears starting to form in your eyes as Niall ran to the bedroom and quickly grabbed Jayden's baby bag. "Okay, let's go," he spoke as you both rushed out of the house and to his range rover sitting in the driveway. He quickly got into the driver's side and revved up the engine as you and Jayden quickly got into the back seat. He instantly drove off and made it to the ER within minutes, quickly bringing Jayden inside to get checked on. After a hectic hour of watching your crying baby boy get stuck with multiple needles, his hives finally began to swell down and his breathing was thankfully back to normal. Niall's thumb came up to your cheek and wiped a stray tear away as you looked into his blue eyes, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean too," he spoke quietly, running his hands nervously through his hair as you held the now sleeping Jayden comfortingly in your arms. You noticed his eyes were becoming a bit watery, "Niall......don't be sorry for this, this isn't your fault at all....please don't think that," you spoke seriously as you quickly grabbed his hand and squeezed it assuringly. "We had no clue Jayden was allergic to that, the same thing would have happened to me if I fed him okay? This wasn't your fault," you said again as a tear escaped and fell down his blushed cheek. You gently placed the sleeping baby boy onto the hospital bed and walked back to Niall, instantly bringing him into your arms and holding him tightly; feeling the material of your t-shirt begin to get dampened by his tears. Seeing him crying was your weakness, and soon enough tears were streaming down your face as well. He finally pulled away from your grasp and held your face in his hands, "I love you so much," he spoke, drying one of his tears with the back of his hand. "I love you too Niall," you muttered as he wrapped his arms around you. "That was the scariest thing that has ever happened in my life," he whispered as you both took a deep breath and looked toward Jayden. You watched as his chest rose up and down normally,"I know," you agreed as the doctor finally came back into the brightly lit hospital room, Niall quickly grabbing your hand and interweaving your fingers together as the woman explained what needed to be done next.

Louis: "Yea...it's a fever," you sighed as you held up the thermometer to show Louis. He grabbed it to take a look, "101.2," he read out nervously. "Well this means we should bring her to the hospital then, I mean this isn't good right?" he spoke as he grabbed her from your arms and worriedly looked at her tiny face. "No not yet...if it gets any worse we will....we'll keep checking her temperature every hour and just go from there," you explained as you watched him gently stroke the side of her face with his thumb. You walked to his side and wrapped and arm around his waist as you rested your head on his shoulder, "well.....our baby girl is sick for the first time," you spoke with a hint of concern to your voice. Louis turned his head toward you and placed a kiss to the top of your head, "We can't be those parents who freak over everything.....like you said.....we'll just take her temperature and go from there," he smiled as you nodded your head in agreement. For the next few hours her temperature remained the same and you both took turns holding, feeding, and checking up on her when she fell asleep. "Should I go get some fever reducing medicine or something for her? Maybe that will help," he asked as you both sat in the kitchen with some tea. "Yea, that's a good idea," you smirked as he picked up his car keys and quickly left to the store. As soon as Brooke woke back up you gave her some of the bright pink liquid Louis had bought and hoped for the best. Thankfully after a few more hours, her temperature went down a bit. "See, I knew you'd get better. You're daddy's strong little girl huh?" Louis smiled, Brooke grabbing on to his pointer finger and smiling as he made a funny face. "She must've just had one of those day long flus or something," he said as you sat down on the bed where Brooke was lying down. "You're such a great dad Lou, I don't know what I'd do without you," you spoke as he turned his head to look at you. "Don't be silly babe, I wouldn't have even known she had a fever if you woulda never told me," he chuckled as he kissed your cheek. "Well then I guess we're lucky we have each other then," you smirked as his lips met with yours happily.
