Late Nights and Hot Chocolate
So I decided to write a second one. It's a Zayn one, cus I decided to go out of my usual writing comfort zone. This one is dedicated to anyone who ever reads this, and all of my followers and to Katherine101 for being my inspiration to start writing on Wattpad. This is going to be super sad for a while in the beginning but I swear it gets better. :) Please don't sue me for damage caused to your heart.

So. Today was the day. It has been three years since the Where We Are tour and three years since he's seen Perrie. Today Liam was getting married to Danielle(do not hate I know they're not together but 5-ever Payzer!!) and he couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy that they were still together and happy with each other. Don't get him wrong, Zayn loved the fact the his best mate was happy and he thought Dani was a cool girl, but he longed for Perrie and he longed for a partner that he missed.
Zayn was made the best man alongside Harry and Niall while Louis was somehow appointed ring bearer in his clumsiness. Dani's bridesmade's were (heart wrenching) Perrie, Eleanor, and Lou, with cute little Lux as the flower girl. He never imagined that Perrie would be there and it made his heart hurt, she looked so beautiful in her pale pink dress and he missed her. He missed her so f*cking much and it hurt.
He stood by the side of Liam and helped him with his tie as Liam broke out in a cold sweat. "You can't be backin' out now mate. You're already at the alter. No cold feet." He chuckled, wincing at the jab to his side from Li.
"I'm not backin' out or getting cold feet, I'm just nervous. What if she figures out she doesn't want to be with me? That she's not ready for marriage? We both still have hectic jobs that keep us away from each other 24/7. What if we can't handle it." Liam stressed, looking wide eyed at Zayn who simply finished his tie and looked back at him.
"Liam that girl loves you. With all of her warm big heart. She's ready for this, and if she could handle it all these years, she'll be fine after this. Marriage won't change that. It might even strengthen it. You can't beat yourself up with things that won't happen mate." He ended plainly, a look of pain but certainty on his face. If only Perrie had stayed. This pep talk would have been for him. He patted Liam on the shoulder with a slight smile on his face before returning to where he was supposed to be with and ecstatic Harry and a hyper Niall.
"Calm down boys. She's coming out soon." He said, chuckling at their antics, his spirits lifted, even if in just the slightest. Harry kept smiling as big as he was but stopped jumping a bit. Niall stayed the same as he was, but hey, he was always like that. He heard the music playing before he turned around and placed his hands in front of himself. He watched the cherry wood double doors open, a stunning Danielle walking out. He looked at her father Alex for a second, giving him a kind smile, before looking back to the bride.
Zayn watched in almost a trance as Alex place Dani's right hand in Liam's left and smiled widely at the look of udder happiness on both of their faces, especially Liam's. He sort of zoned out with the whole vow part, but can you blame him. Zayn came back to as the priest in front of them stated loudly, "you may now kiss the bride!" It was so sweet and compassionate that Zayn himself almost cried, almost. Liam and Danielle practically ran down the few steps from the podium to get to the side room where the cake and champagne was.
He slowly followed, careful to stay away from the bridesmaids, but also so that he could catch a glimpse of Perrie even from afar. He came in the room just in time for the cake to be sliced and grabbed a glass, or two, of champagne and walk away to the side door where he sat in the breeze. He didn't mean to be mopey of a horrid friend through all of this, but he didn't expect Perrie to be here and it hurt, a lot.
He wasn't over her in the slightest. So as he sat drinking his champagne, he thought of her last words to him. 'I'm sorry Zayn I can't handle all the separation that our bands put between us. I can't handle the extra hate that I get from fans. I'm so sorry, but I'm leaving.' Zayn remember watching her leave with all of her bags and things with tears streaming down his face, just sitting numb on the couch. That's how it was, when stray tears ran down his face, hitting his dress pants with a dull splat.
Wiping the tears away and keeping the ones following was difficult, especially as the words, 'I'm leaving.' kept running through his head in the form of Perrie's lovely voice. It hurt. It hurt as he drank the rest of his champagne in a gulp and walked with his head down to the mens dressing room there. He kept it together until he got there, throwing the glasses against the wall and screaming, crying, breaking down in the room and thankful no one could hear him because of how far away he was.
He was on the verge of broken, crushed. It hurt, and he couldn't get over it. It hurt and he had no way of escaping it. It hurt and he didn't want it to hurt anymore. He wanted it to go back to how it was. 'I'm sorry.' Picnics and old spice candles. 'I can't handle.' A queen bed and someone to share it with. 'I'm leaving.' It's all he could think about. Memories, over and over, playing inside his head. The first time they met, first kiss, first time making love, picnics, ice rinks, ice cream on her nose, laughing at stupid things that Harry and Louis seemed to do, wondering when Liam would get the guts to ask Danielle to marry him. Then the worst ones. Their first fight, the first time she broke down crying in his arms from a bad day or people's hate, the first time he had to sleep on the couch, when he twisted his ankle trying to chase Perrie after someone told her she was worthless, Perrie leaving.
He screamed again as he kneeled down on the ground and clutched his stomach as tears poured down his face in a waterfall onto the waiting pond on the floor. Zayn sobbed as he broke down, at his best mates' wedding none the less, and that just made him feel worse. He was gonna ask her to marry him, right after she left. He had something planned for days after she had inevitably left that he had to call off. He felt crushed by all the pain inside, he felt broken, this was honestly the worst pain he had ever felt.
Zayn didn't hear the door creak open, he didn't hear the clicking of heals on the wood floor and he screamed once more, falling to the floor with his forehead resting on the ground, body shaking as sob after sob wracked his body. He didn't hear or feel as someone dropped to the floor beside him, resting their hand on his shoulder as he wailed and cried his heart out on the floor where Liam once stood getting ready for his big day. The floor he so desperately wished he had no reason to be upon other than helping his best mate get ready.
When he finally calmed down enough to get his senses back, he registered the soft hand on his shoulder that he so recognized. Zayn registered the soft sounds coming from the person's lips trying to get him to calm down as he sobbed in emotional and practically physical pain. He registered the feel on soft cloth against his side and the hard floor pushing against his knees and his head. He registered the painful curling of his toes and the pounding of his heart as he realized who the person that found him was. He also realized the horrible pain in his head that came with his break down.
When he finally calmed down enough to hiccup instead of sob and cry, he sat up and wiped his face with his sleeve and turned to the blonde beauty on his right. "W-what are you doing in here?" He stuttered, trying to ignore the pang in his heart as he took in that it was really her here. He couldn't believe that she had been the one to find him in his breakdown about her.
"I had left to go to the bathroom and I heard a scream so I followed it here. Why are you crying?" She honestly sounded truly worried and concerned as her eyebrows furrowed and her mouth hung open a bit. He decided to tell her part of the truth.
"Just a lot on my mind lately." Yeah, lately. A.k.a. three years. He thought. Zayn looked down to the floor as to not look her in the eyes as he said it.
"Screw that Zayn, that's not the cry of someone who has a lot on their mind. That was the wailing and screaming of a broken heart or a broken bone. What's really going on?" Perrie persisted. You'd think she'd know. Zayn thought with a slightly bitter touch.
"Because you wouldn't know would you Per? You wouldn't happen to know anything about this? I don't wanna talk about it. Not with you." Zayn exasperated, standing up and walking to the the door when she stopped him.
"Wait Zayn wait. I made a mistake. I know it's stupid to say it now. I know. But I miss you. I was scared to talk to you before because I just was. I still love you and I was just scared before and yeah this all sounds super fictional and something that only happens in a story, but it's the truth and I am so sorry for what I did." Perrie finished on a sigh, looking at Zayn's still back as he tried to process what she had just said to him. Scared. She left and never talked to him again because she was scared.
"Seriously?! Because you were scared you left me days before I was going to ask you to marry me and never talked to me again while I have been dying inside trying to figure it all out. Scared." He was angry but he wasn't going to yell.
"Yes. I was scared and I didn't know how to face it so I ran. I ran away from it and I ran away from you. I ran scared and I can't express how bad I feel for it. I know it's probably not an option because of how much pain I've put you through, but I want to go back. Go back to before I ran, to before I was scared, to when we were perfect. All I ask is that we go back to that. We skip over whatever's happened with us in these three years and just redo it. We be happy again. Please." Zayn's eyes were wide as he stared at her and took in her statement. He thought a moment, but came to an automatic conclusion.
"I'll try it. I miss you. So much. It hurts Per. I love you so much it hurts. Of course I'll go for a re-do. It's all I've wanted." Zayn admitted as he walked toward her and hugged her as tight as possible. Perrie wrapped her dainty arms around his waist in a tight embrace as she rested her weary head against his chest and finally they both felt whole again, not broken and crushed, or guilty and damaged. They felt full.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A couple of days after the wedding, Zayn got all of Perrie's stuff back into their flat and said goodbye to Liam and Dani who were headed to a beach in Mexico for their honeymoon. The two lovebirds sat in front of the crackling fireplace, marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers surrounding their blanket wrapped bodies, mugs of hot coco in their hands as they snuggled together. Zayn never thought he would get the chance to do this again and for the chance to, he was grateful.
The two sat chatting for hours, sipping hot chocolate, eating smores, and mending what of their relationship that had been broken. They kissed a few times in front of the fire, snuggled together and fell asleep after what remained of their hot chocolate was gone and the fire had dimmed down to nothing but ashes and forgotten memories of a broken past.
Sorry guys, this did not turn out at all how I thought it would and it's kinda cliche but even though it didn't turn out how I thought it would, I still like it. I hope you guys do to. :) Enjoy.
