An absent father
Liam
An unexpected pregnancy in the beginning of his career was the reason you grew up without a father figure. He would message your mother and ask about you, once in a while. As the years passed the messages became fewer and his interest in you vanished. Your mother was a strong woman, she fought to keep you warm, fed and happy. She was a young mother, all the odds were pointing against her but she kept her head up high. She was always struggling financially, she had three jobs during your childhood. He was the definition of an absent father in every possible way. Physically, mentally, emotionally and financially gone.
When he and his partner announced their pregnancy on social media you saw your mother's jaw drop slightly, but she quickly recovered and sighed heavily. You did your best to stay away from his accounts on social media, but it was rather difficult. He seemed to be happy with his accomplishments and it bothered you to see how he was living his life compared to your mother. The baby eventually entered his life and he was updating his accounts frequently. It was hurtful and you wished your life took the same turn, but it was in the past. There was nothing you could do to change the fact that he was a happy father, for someone else.
Your mother was unexpectedly diagnosed with the worst illness and your life suddenly took a drastic turn. You began working as much as you could in order to pay the hospital bills, you were struggling but you didn't hesitate once. His whole existence was provocative, the luxury lifestyle he showed off frustrated you when you weren't able to pay your mother's medical bills. You tried to remind yourself that you had always made it without him.
And just like that, she was gone. She lost the battle to the dammed illness and you were officially on your own. You were young, sixteen years old. You were left alone with a huge hole in your heart. She was truly all you had. Life works in mysterious ways, in dark ways. School wasn't even on the radar, you definitely didn't have the money. You kept working, through the most lonely days. To go back to a broken and empty home wasn't an option, it was too hurtful. If you would be granted one, single wish you truly knew what you would have wished for. You would have wished for your mother to return, to wrap her loving arms around you.
As you were brewing coffee your eyes landed on a familiar character. Character was exactly what he deserved to be called. He played a central part of your life, although he was gone. Flashbacks of father's day and your schoolmates talking about their loving fathers, flashed before your eyes. You noticed how he slowly approached you from afar, and you were not in the mood to be friendly. You turned your back and focused on brewing more coffee. You were aware of the fact that he wasn't there alone, his wife was proudly carrying their son. Even though you had your back against them, you knew they had approached you - his voice gave him away.
"I heard what happened, Y/N" his voice sounded strange, he had never spoken to you before. The communication was always through your mother, never directed to you. You wished the words were coated in kindness and sympathy - but the words felt forced, his purpose felt forced.
"How can I help you?" you boldly asked, your gaze finally met his. You were sure that your expressionless pale face would scare him off. Your eyes had lost their spark, a long time ago.
"Why didn't you reach out to me? She would have been alive for God's sake" he lectured, you were trying to register the words leaving his mouth. You snorted in response, how could he be so cruel?
"Excuse me, but who the hell do you think you are, yeah? You've been absent, all my life but yet here you are - when it's too late" your voice is stable, your eyes are shooting daggers.
"Y/N-" you immediately interrupt him, with no shame.
"Don't. Don't just show up and pretend like you care. If you would have cared, the situation would have been different Mr Payne. Therefore I suggest you to leave me the hell alone." you told him off, the tone was rather stern but he didn't deserve the soft side of you.
"You should have reached out to me, in one way or another" he spoke, his voice emotionless.
"Of course, you're very easy to reach considering your fame Mr Payne, with all respect - get out of here" he heavily sighed and shook his head, he was staring at you for a few moments before he and his entourage turned their backs and walked away.
The beautiful stories your mother told you about the man who stood in front of you moments earlier, was not the same man. You didn't understand what she fell for, he was cold, cruel and his visit left scars - deep scars.
