Lestrade and Alice

(Lestrade’s POV, Six O’ Clock PM: )

My head was killing me. I took a couple Asprin and looked back at the computer screen as Donovan came  in, looking solemn to my surprise.

“What’s the matter?” I asked, leaning forward as she came to the front of the desk.

“White’s here.” She said unhappily. She had stopped calling Alice ‘Freak Two’ after the Fall, as well as Sherlock himself. She called him Sherlock. I pursed my lips.

“Send her in.” I ordered. She nodded and exited. I turned off my laptop, scooting it to the side and taking another gulp of coffee. A few moments later, Alice came in, closing the door behind her. Her coat was dripping all over the floor, and she held the umbrella Mycroft gave her at her side, leaning on it like he did.

“Hey Greg.” She greeted, coming in further and looking around my office.

“Hey. What do you need?” I replied, watching her tiredly.

“Uh… John wanted me to invite you to tonight’s… Anniversary.” She said casually. Realization hit me: I had forgotten about the date. Today was the day. I didn’t dare tell her I forgot.

“What time?” I asked.

“Nine.” She stuck her left hand in her coat pocket, crossing her legs and leaning on the tip of the umbrella in a striking image of Mycroft. I sighed and rubbed my forehead.

“I have to work late.”

“It’s Friday.”

“It is?”

“Yes Greg.” She answered patronizingly.

“Oh. Then I suppose that would be good. Wife’s gone again.”

“The P.E teacher again?” She asked sympathetically. I nodded. “Well, I’ll see you tonight then. Bring whatever you want.” She invited.

“See you.” She smiled and left, her coat waving behind her just like Sherlock’s did. I smiled faintly, leaning back in my chair and remembering.
