Alice

(Alice's POV: )

I was so bored; I was watching My Little Pony with my niece. I found myself liking the one called ‘Rainbow Dash’ the best, and the little dragon reminded me of John in some ways. I looked to my niece, who was playing with the toy version of the characters as she watched.

“Why do you like this?” I asked, watching her twirl the pink pony’s hair.

“Cos they’re pink, and they fly, and they’re nice, and the toys smell sweet!” She announced eagerly. I looked at the telly briefly, then back to her.

“I don’t get it.” I replied. She shrugged as her mom, Gwen, my only younger sibling, came in with her lunch.

“Neither do I. I just go with it.” She smiled, setting down the T.V tray in front of her daughter, who continued playing with her toy. “Jackie, sweetie, eat your food.” Jackie set her pony on her tray, facing the telly and began eating her sandwich. I smiled a little.

“Alli, can I see you in the kitchen?” Gwen asked, smiling politely and calling me the name I hated. I frowned and followed her into her large kitchen.

“Alice. It’s Alice.” I began, somewhat annoyed.

“It could be AJ.” She smiled.

“But it isn’t. It’s Alice.” She smiled again, but turned solemn after a moment.

“Have you spoken to John yet today?” She asked gently. I nodded. “Are you going to see him?”

“Later tonight.” I confirmed, avoiding eye contact.

“Are you okay?” She asked. I nodded. “Alice, really. Are you okay?”

“Of course I’m okay, Gwen!” I half-shouted, turning to her. “One of my best friends jumped off a building and killed himself three years ago!” I looked down and crossed my arms. “Why wouldn’t I be?” I asked bitterly. She sighed and crossed her own arms, looking down inbetween her feet as well.

“You said you would never admit he did it.” She said quietly. “You said you would never believe he would leave John like that, and we knew it wasn’t just for John. You said you would never admit he killed himself.” I sighed and rubbed my forehead tiredly.

“I know.”

“But you just did.”

“I know.”

“Does that mean you have moved on?”

“I will never be able to move on. At least not completely. There will always be a part of me that will never believe he would do that to his friends.” She nodded. I thought for a moment before turning around and going to the front door. She appeared behind me as I swung my coat on and grabbed the umbrella Mycroft gave me for my most recent birthday. “Thank you for having me. I’ll see you later.” I said, my mind on a complete different subject. She smiled kindly as I exited her house. The rain hit me in the face violently before I could open my umbrella. I pulled my coat tighter then opened the black cover, walking down the steps and onto the sidewalk.
