005. For You

"I like you!"

Len finally spits out the words after months of cowardliness. He feared being rejected by his crush ever since he realized he developed feelings. She was his dream girl: perfect looks, perfect attitude, perfect personality- she was practically the definition of perfection.

It was immediately when Len blurted out those words right to her face that regret washed over him like a tidal wave. His mind is congested with too many thoughts on why he decided to do this in the first place. How did he even have the courage to begin with, he knew he'd be rejected- so why bother? Perhaps he was distracted by his desired outcome that he was blinded into thinking it'd actually happen.

He was too busy imagining that he'd be accepted by her. She had only the coolest friends, the popularity he never had, and the prettiest face compared to his unattractive one. He changed himself just for her without even recalling his initial thought that she wouldn't like him back.

She blinks her eyes, fazed by his confession.

Len knew his feelings would be unrequited, he just wants to hide himself away from her where he wouldn't be utterly humiliated. If only he-

She bursts out laughing, hugging her stomach as she wipes a tear with her other hand.

"You, Kagamine Len, like me?" she says before another laugh.

"Y-yeah," he replies sheepishly. "Rin, I know you don't like me back, so just--"

"No, no, it's just funny! I actually really like you, too."

Len stares at her, flabbergasted by her response. Rin liked him? All this time, yet she never batted an eye his way in the halls, and they never once held a conversation. He'd only overhear her talking with her friends during classes; he was too scared to ever speak with her. But he hadn't seen Rin looking at him at all, because if she was surely he would've noticed.

"Y-you do? But we've never even talked or--" he begins to ramble until she cuts him off.

"Len, I've seen the way you act in classes. You're shy and really kind, and I know you read shoujo manga during lunch." His cheeks burn red but she quickly dismisses the topic. "C'mon, it's okay. I don't blame you; I actually kinda read that stuff, too."

He stifles a small laugh, immediately biting his lip.

"Len, look, I think you're sweet. And you changed- everything about yourself just to get me to like you, that's what I call attractive. Just because you don't think you're beautiful doesn't mean someone else thinks the same."

"Rin..."

"And... y'know, I was actually trying to change for you, too. I was attempting to distance myself from my friends and try to be a bit less popular just so... maybe, I could've talked to you- without you getting nervous that I was." She rubs the back of her neck and looks to the ground as she blushes.

"S-so, you like me, too?" Len stutters.

"Yeah, I do," Rin smiles warmheartedly and he smiles back. "But Len, next time, don't go around changing your habits for me. I like you just the way you are, okay?"

It takes him some time to comprehend until he nods a confident "Okay."

She giggles, grabbing his shoulder, and getting on her tippy-toes to give him a light kiss on the cheek. The bells finally ring for school to start and Rin dashes off into the building after giving him a small wave. He's still caught up in the fact that she kissed him. Not on the lips, but the cheek- the closest he could get to a first kiss.

He shakes his head and runs to first period with her.
