002. BS
Rin scans her deck of cards. They're all folded out neat and nicely in order from ace to king, except for the fact that she was missing a few cards. So far she was the second to victory, right behind Kaito with his five remaining cards and her seven. After all, Rin can tell he was just about to take the pile--she knows it. He was eyeing his own a numerous amount of times, shifting his gaze from the stack to his.
He's called peanut butter at least two times in a row in his last two turns. By calling "peanut butter," he's saying that he lied when he was supposed to place down his assigned card. Just when Kaito had to give in a six, he moved a card to the center, face down as it had to be, but his expression was emotionless as he focused on the rest of his cards. No one suspected anything--not even Rin. But after Rin, whom was right after Kaito, put her seven, he said with a smirk, "peanut butter." The second time in a row.
At the moment Miku was studying her cards, all fanned out in her hand.
"Wait, what number am I supposed to put down again?" she asked.
"Ace," Len answered. "You're supposed to put down an ace."
Miku puckers her lips then cautiously plucks a card from her remaining nine. She drops it on the table and slides it to the center. She glances at Len and notices that he was staring at the purple back of her card.
"BS," Len says.
"Oh, you wanna call it?" Miku smirks slyly.
"Yeah, I'm calling it."
"All right, if you insist," she straightens her posture and jerks her head. "Go ahead."
Len leans closer to the deck and lands a hand on it. He takes a breath because with one, risky move he was about to see if he was one more step to winning or losing with the flip of this card. There was no going back now. He lifts it up, turning it over to see its face.
He slams the card to his lap. An actual ace--an ace of clubs. "Dangit!"
Miku bursts out into laughter, covering a hand to her mouth. "See? I'm a good liar, aren't I?"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever..." Len mutters while pushing the entire deck to him.
A few rounds alternate and the results tie into Kaito with three, Rin with four, Len with six, and Miku at nine.
"Alright, Kaito, your turn," Miku smiles.
A ten. He's supposed to lay down a ten to the new pile. Rin is studying every one of his looks with her highest suspicions. She can't trust him. With just a single suspicious movement that makes her know he's lying, she'll call it without a doubt.
Kaito's pupils jump from one card to the next, and Rin's trying to see if the reflection is visible in his eyes. Finally he picks one at the very end, dropping it in the empty middle. Rin tries to catch anything--anything that would give her a clue. Right now, she's desperate. He's left with two cards. Two flippin' cards that Rin would give up anything for to call BS, just to higher his deck to at least ten.
Before anyone could remind Rin it was her turn, she spots something. Kaito biting the bottom corner of his lip and was trying to hide it with his two cards and a plain look in his eyes.
"BS," Rin says. The exact moment Len opens his mouth to say something, she's already extended an arm to Kaito's card. She flips it over to see its face and her eyes brighten. "Yes!" she punches a fist in the air.
Kaito groans as she throws down his card, a red four of hearts.
"Nice one, Rin," Miku chimes in.
"Suck it, Kaito!" Rin laughs at his face and pushes the large, purple mountain to his side.
Her turn, and this was all that mattered now. She is finally in the lead and she's dropped Kaito to the already-determined-loser. And even if right now someone were to call BS on her, it would be only her one card on the table and that wouldn't cause a big ruckus to anyone.
But here she is having to magically swoop down with a jack. The one problem: she didn't have any.
'Two, seven, seven, ten...' Rin began panicking. 'Guess I'll have to fake it.'
That didn't matter; she was a good liar... according to Len's complaints. She'd blame something on him, he'd complain, but Meiko always seemed to believe it was Len's fault. This was nothing.
Rin removes the two of clubs and places it there. She keeps on a poker face, pretending to check her cards like she's prepping herself for her next turn. Len narrows his eyes, continuing to wonder if she was lying or not. Except he doesn't have time to accuse her because Miku puts her card on top of Rin's.
"Peanut butter," Rin giggles and sticks a tongue out to Len.
"Eff, I knew it. Miku, at least give me time to call BS," Len frowns.
"Well you didn't say anything, mister," she crosses her arms.
They each go around, one lying after another or staying silent for telling the truth. Before Rin knows it her cards decrease from three to two and then to one. Exactly when Rin's turn comes into play, she smacks a ten to the pile and it was the same number she had to give.
"I win!"
