3rd Person P.O.V
The pancakes that Asgore made for [Y/N] were wolfed down in seconds. [Y/N] savored the sweet flavor of the pancakes and maple syrup that tickled her taste buds. Her gaze flicked back to Asgore, giving him two thumbs up and a small giggle. Asgore's face lit up with happiness, pleased that his new adoptive daughter enjoyed his food. He made his way over to the teenager, hugging her, to which she returned the heart-warming gesture, a wide and loving grin plastered on her face. Asgore was just so cuddly! (HUGGABLE GOAT DAD)
Asgore's gaze flicked over to the clock that hung on the wall nearby, and his eyes widened, a grin on his face. He pulls away from the embrace.
"I apologize, dear child, but I have something I must attend to. Stay here please." He told the teenager before scurrying away, down the stairs that lead to the unknown place.
She didn't know what came over her as she stared at his retreating figure, but as the feeling enveloped her heart she followed him. Curious and nimble like a cat, the teen followed the fatherly goat down the stairs, careful not to make any sound. Asgore turned a few corners. The teenage girl followed silently.
One last turn, and a thud was heard. The teen hid behind the corner, peering over ever so slightly and listening carefully.
Knock Knock
The teen spotted Asgore slumped down against a door, chuckling under his breath.
"Who's there?" Asgore replied.
"Dishes." A smooth, deep, yet slightly high pitched voice came from the other side of the door. That voice made the teenager's cheeks explode with heat.
"Dishes who?" Asgore replied.
"Dishes a very bad joke." The voice on the other side (A/N: HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIIIIIIII- //slapped) replied, snickering at the horribly funny joke. Asgore's deep voice boomed into a loud laugh, causing the girl's hands to shoot up to her mouth, trying to stifle any laughs she could have made.
[Y/N] turns around and begins to walk back, not noticing the sound of footsteps behind her until two large and fluffy hands were on her shoulders. She stiffened and turned to meet Asgore's gaze. A nervous chuckle escaped the girl's lips, and Asgore began to frown. The teenager looked down to the ground, guilt obvious in her expression.
"Dear child, didn't I tell you to stay upstairs?" He asks calmly, yet the girl still detected a hint of seriousness in his tone. Regret flooded her entire body.
[Y/N] nodded her head, a few tears pooling at the bottom of her eyes. Blinking back her tears, the teenager's gaze lands on Asgore's face, seeing his calm and relaxing expression return to his face.
"Dear child, why did you follow me down here?" Asgore inquired, looking down at the girl with slight hesitation. [Y/N] lifts her hands to begins to sign her answer.
"When you first brought me here, I was curious about these stairs and where they lead, and when you went down just a few minutes ago, I was curious, so I decided that this was my chance to see what was downstairs... I'm sorry if I made you angry..." [Y/N]'s hands were trembling, a few tears threatening to spill from her eyes. Asgore wipes the stray tears gathering on her lashes and kneels down in front of her. [Y/N] turns her head away, not making eye contact with the fatherly goat, in fear that he would scold her. Instead he places his warm hand onto the girl's shoulder and smiles warmly. [Y/N] returns the smile, a sniff coming from her nose.
Asgore quickly stood up, grabbing [Y/N]'s hand and walking back to the massive door. The girl gives him an inquisitive glace.
"I want you to meet a good friend of mine." Asgore replies. [Y/N] beams, absolutely ecstatic to meet someone else other than Asgore. That thought quickly dies down when the girl remembers how cruel monsters can get; Temmie for example.
[Y/N] clings onto Asgore's robe for dear life, almost trembling in her boots. Asgore takes notice of this and halts his movements, glancing at the girl with a worried expression.
"W-W-What if y-your friend wants to k-k-kill me? Just like T-Temmie d-did..." [Y/N]'s hands shake, scared to death of the outcome. Asgore quickly embraces the girl, assuring her that she would never have to worry about that happening ever again. The teenager hugs him back just as tightly as he takes her hand once more, finally making it to the door. [Y/N] begins to shudder as a sudden wave of icy cold air struck her, causing her hands to shoot up to her arms, rubbing them furiously to try and supply them with warmth. Though [Y/N] was wearing a sweater, she felt like she was swimming in the depths of the coldest sea. Asgore holds the girl close, causing her to cuddle him back, sighing in contentment. HE WAS SO WARM!!!
Finally [Y/N] sits back against the door and Asgore joins her before he begins to speak.
"Sorry for the delay, my good friend. I... have someone I would like you to meet." Asgore says.
"Do ya' now? Well, care to introduce me to your friend, old man?" The voice replies. The teenager felt like a volcano had erupted on her cheeks, making her hands shoot up to cover her burning face. Asgore glances at the girl and laughs.
"But of course! Her name is [Y/N], My... new child. She fell down not too long ago." Asgore smiles at [Y/N] warmly.
"'She'?" The voice sounded almost startled. "Well... That definitely interesting. Anywho, hello [Y/N], I'm Papyrus." 'Papyrus' introduced from behind the door. His voice sent goosebumps up the girl's spine, and she found herself clinging onto her arms tightly in hopes of producing warmth. The icy air from behind the door wasn't exactly helping her situation. [Y/N] turns to Asgore and signs, a wide grin on her face.
"Dad! Can you please tell Papyrus that it's really nice to meet him?" [Y/N] signs happily. Asgore begins to chuckle.
"She says that it's nice to meet you, Papyrus." Asgore tells Papyrus. The teenage girl felt so giddy and wanted to meet this 'Papyrus' in person.
"Too shy to talk to me, girlie?" Papyrus snickers from behind the door.
"Not necessarily, Papyrus." Seriousness was clearly evident in Asgore's tone. "She is... Mute." Asgore explains solemnly.
"Oh my...Holy crap... I'm so sorry... I-I didn't know..." Papyrus was apologizing profusely, and the teen heard shuffling coming from the other side of the door.
"Tell him I say it's ok. He didn't know." [Y/N] signs, asking her adoptive father to reply back to Papyrus. "OOH! And tell him that I really wanna see him in person." The girl finishes.
Asgore goes completely still, staring forward with a hard expression on his face.
"My child says that it is alright. You didn't know. She also wishes to see you in person, Papyrus." Asgore's tone was serious, yet he felt absolutely heartbroken.
[Y/N] excitedly waited for his answer, giddily rocking back and forth on her heels.
But silence met her.
[Y/N] frowns, and was about to sign something when a yawn came to her, her eyes slowly drooping. Asgore takes this opportunity.
"[Y/N], dear. You look absolutely exhausted. Why don't you... Go upstairs and call it a day?" Asgore says nervously. The drowsy teenage girl nods, standing up and making her way back to her room. Asgore lets out a relieved sigh.
"Did she mean it when she said that she wanted to meet me in person, Asgore?" Papyrus questions the fatherly goat. Asgore was astonished; Papyrus would only ever use his real name if he was serious. Asgore sighs once more.
"She did, Papyrus." Asgore replies. "As much as I want her to see you in person, I am afraid of what the other monsters might do to her. I have lost one child already, Papyrus. I cannot loose another." Asgore replies solemnly. He has bared the loss of one of his dearest children already. It would drive him to insanity if he lost [Y/N] too. And to his own kind, no less.
Papyrus sighed deeply.
"I wanna meet her too you know... She seems like a lovely person..." Papyrus stated. Asgore was conflicted.
He wanted the 16 year old girl to go out and explore and live her life, but at the same he wanted her to stay with him, safe and sound in his arms. Asgore's head was spinning with decisions. Should he trust his best friend to keep his mute child safe and allow her to explore the underground? Or should he go against the decision and keep the teenager in the ruins with him forever?
"Hello? You still there, old man?" Papyrus asked from the other side of the door.
"My apologies, Papyrus... I was deep in thought."
"Let me guess. You wanna let her go and explore the rest of this underground and keep her with you at the same time." Papyrus gave a deep sigh.
"If it makes you feel better, I can protect the kid; that is if you decide to let her go. She won't leave my sight."
Asgore was silent. As much as he wanted to trust Papyrus, he simply couldn't let his child go.
"I'll give you your time. But please, think about it." Papyrus finished. Asgore could hear shuffling and footsteps fading from the other side of the door, meaning that Papyrus had walked away.
What was he going to do?
2nd Person P.O.V
From upstairs, you could hear a bit of their conversation. Asgore wanted you to stay with him., and you definitely wouldn't disagree with that. But forever? Now that's a problem.
You walk back to your room, thinking over what you wanted to do. Exploring the Underground seemed like a FANTASTIC thing to do, but in Asgore's case it was like sending you off to a suicide mission. Asgore surely had a point when he mentioned that monsters could do horrible things to you if they so much as glanced your way. One of those examples was Temmie.
You did not want another repeat of Temmie.
But you sure as hell didn't want to stay trapped in the ruins.
What were you going to do?!
As if on cue, Asgore's footsteps could be heard from the other side of your bedroom door. You rush over to the door and open it, revealing Asgore with a saddened and conflicted expression on his face. You grab his furry hand and lead him inside your room, sitting down onto the bed. Asgore joins you.
"I will only assume you heard a bit of our conversation..." Asgore sighs. "You do understand why I want to keep you here, right?"
All you do is nod.
"Dad... as much as I would love to stay here, I have to go out sooner or later..." You sign to Asgore. He nods solemnly.
Asgore stands up from the bed, walking over to you and laying you down, pulling the blanket over your body. The fatherly goat placed a small kiss to your forehead before he exited the room, closing the door gently behind him. Fading footsteps were heard from the other side of the door, meaning Asgore had walked away, to his room probably.
Sitting up, you focus all your energy on your hands, and before your very eyes, a [F/C] heart began to take shape, hovering above the palms of your hands.
What made you cringe though, was the giant burn mark that was permanently stuck on the center of the [F/C] heart. How would Asgore react to this?!
Your heavy breaths echoed throughout the room, and you tried your best to calm yourself down. Slowly, you close your eyes and bring your hands to your chest, your soul fading away from your hands.
You wanted to talk to Papyrus so badly. Oh how you missed his deep, yet slightly high pitched, soothing voice. But unfortunately for you, you couldn't talk.
A lightbulb went off in your head, and you quickly stood up from the bed, looking for papers. Just to your luck, the papers were in a box right next to the dresser where you first saw Chara's picture. You grabbed a few and obtain some crayons that were laid out inside the box. Nimble and quiet as a cat once more, you open the door as quietly as you can and tip-toe down the stairs, rushing over to the massive door where you met your new friend.
A soft humming sound made its way into your ears. The lovely rhythm and melody of the humming was absolutely mesmerizing. You sat down, your back slumped against the door and began to tap along the beat of the hums.
The voice stopped abruptly upon hearing a new sound join in on their humming.
"Who's there?" That deep, smooth, yet high pitched voice you've slowly grown to love said from the other side of the door.
You quickly grabbed a [F/C] crayon and began to write on the paper.
"Heya! Its [Y/N]!" You scribbled down. Carefully, you slid the paper into the small gap between the door and the wall, waiting for your friend on the other side of the door to take the paper. The paper is tugged from your hand, making you let go. You heard the sound of paper and a small chuckle emitted from the voice.
"Heya, kiddo. I missed ya already." Your face was nothing short of burning, as you felt the heat crawl onto your cheeks rapidly.
God, his voice sent shivers down your entire body.
You grab the piece of paper that was slid back to you from the gap and scribble down a new message.
"I... missed you too, but I'm quite curious... what does it look like beyond this door? And what do you look like?" You wrote. You slid the paper back once more before you heard the shuffling of paper.
Papyrus was quiet. Almost too quiet. You could hear the ruffles of leaves, meaning that there was a possibility that trees were one of the factors beyond this door. Papyrus cleared his throat and began to speak.
"Its... great. At least you might think so. Even though us monsters have been stuck down here, its not exactly that hard to get used to the surroundings. But y'know... sometimes ya just gotta accept what's been given to ya. You've gotta accept your fate..." Papyrus trails off, sliding the paper back to you.
Taking the crayon, you circle the question about how he looks like and send it through the gap once more. Papyrus tugs the paper out of your hand and looks at the circled question.
Papyrus let out a single chuckle.
"Well, kiddo, that's for me to know and for you to find out."
You hear shuffling from the other side of the door.
"Welp, I better get home. My brother gets cranky when I don't read him his bedtime stories." Papyrus' voice said, and before you could say anymore, the sound of Papyrus' fading footsteps could be heard.
At least now you knew what the monsters were going through. They were stuck down here for a while, judging by what Papyrus said. You wished you could help them. But how? How could you, a single teenager, set hundreds upon hundreds of monsters free?
As you made your way back to your room, you passed by the bookcase located in the living room and grab a few books on souls and monster history.
*The thought of restoring freedom to the monsters fills you with DETERMINATION.
