WHAT?! Souls Don't Exist!
I blinked my eyes wearily and took a shallow breath, surprisingly...
Nothing hurt.
I had expected an ache or a sting, at least a tight feeling, the kind you get when you stay in one position for a long period of time.
I scanned my surroundings cautiously, white bed-sheets adorned the white, sterile mattress I was laying on, the ceiling was also the monotonous white, however there was a flower vase with beautiful blue lilies basking in the sunlight from the window.
I realized I was completely alone, strange...
I tried to remember what had happened, however all that came up was that I had been angry, then scared, then it was all fuzzy. Thinking about it made my head ache.
'Well duh, dummy!' a feminine voice broke into my thoughts, I whipped my head around violently trying to find the source. I couldn't detect a single thing...
Strange...
'Hello, miss human!' I heard another voice, however it was female it was distinctly different from the first one...
'Stop ignoring us please, let me cut to the chase, first; you are not insane... I think' the first voice said but was cut off by a 'Kuro! That was rude!' by the second, lower pitched female voice.
I wasn't sure what was happening, did this happen to all car-crash victims? I didn't know, perhaps I need a therapist... OR, I'm in a coma and don't know it!
'Of course you're not in a coma, now let me explain please!' the girl, Kuro, I believe said impatiently. I nodded, hoping she could see me, I needed an explanation.
'Well, there is another world, a opposite dimension is the appropriate term, I believe. Anyhow my name is Kuro, and this is Lamia, the other person here, well we are both witches...' Kuro trailed off and let me digest the information.
My mind was spinning rapidly, witches? Opposite dimensions?
'Ok, I'm going to continue before you blow a fuse. Witches widely inhabit this other dimension, so do strange animals and normal animals that your world has as well. Our reality doesn't work any differently other than magic. Also, why we are here is probably your next question, no we are not here to torture you, we got stuck here...' Kuro stopped talking, I sensed she got lost in thought...
...
WAIT, SENSED?!
I started panicking and Lamia's voice interrupted 'don't worry, this is normal!' she tried to comfort me, 'NORMAL? HOW CAN YOU CALL ANYTHING IN THIS SITUATION NORMAL?!' I mentally demanded, and felt ridiculous while doing so.
I felt Lamia cringe and cover her ears, meanwhile Kuro snapped out of it. My ability to sense my new companions was improving,
Wait!
I could finally see them! They were standing in a dark, endless void and were staring at a strange square which held everything I could see, hear, smell, taste Etc.
I blinked in surprise, Lamia was a pale-ish girl who had rich brown hair that reached her lower-back and she had bright scarlet eyes, she smiled cheerily at me. Kuro was paler and slightly shorter, she had strange purple hair and yellow cat-like eyes... She actually looked like a witch.
Lamia was wearing a sort of loose red robe-like shirt and had loose sleeves and an elegant appearance, it had gold embroidery and on her chest was a red jewel attached to a chain.
Kuro had the same sort of other-worldly appearance also; consisting of, a long-sleeved shirt that was loose and had large sleeves that draped elegantly down, the shirt was black and she also had a black skirt that went with it, two swords were positioned on her back held by a black leather strap, she was smirking slightly as her waist-length hair swayed slightly.
I blinked, Kuro's expression became more amused and Lamia's more cheerful. I realized they may be witches but they were just like me;
Fifteen year-old girls.
Naturally the two sensed my thoughts and broke out into joyful grins. Lamia started doing a happy-dance 'yay, you accepted us!' Lamia shouted gleefully.
'Wait, so how did you two end up here?' I asked curiously, Kuro's expression darkened and Lamia scratched the back of her neck sheepishly.
'Well, that's a long story... First, the witch world is divided into clans, clans are essential to surviving.' Lamia explained patiently. Kuro cut in with 'un, and these are the clans; Phoenix clan, Dragon clan, Demon clan, Fawn clan and Archer clan. This is how I would describe them, Phoenix clan is essentially fire-related, I mean the name is a dead give-away but anyhow. They are the heavy-hitters, not really focusing on defense, rather their specialty is offensive prowess and courage.' Kuro explained matter-of-factly to me. I blinked as I absorbed this 'what about the other clans?' I asked as I sat up in the hospital bed, it was still strange having other people inside of your head but I was slowly adjusting.
'Well, Dragon clan utilizes water and ice, using mainly hand-to-hand combat however, that and their brutal politics and laws. Each clan had their own territory, and trespassers are dealt with through a trial where they will either be initiated into the clan or executed.' Kuro stated straight-forwardly, I flinched as I heard the word 'execution' Lamia then became sheepish again and chuckled nervously.
'Anyway,' Kuro continued 'Demon clan uses shadows, curses, shape-shifting and beast-taming, they have the most wide-spread talents of all the clans.' she continued ' they aren't widely appreciated however for their cunning, which has earned them a lot of grudges...' as Kuro finished speaking she put a hand up to her chin and took on a thoughtful expression 'hmm, Lamia do you think we should tell her what clans we are from?' I jerked in surprise at Kuro's innocent question, Lamia wasn't much better but after she recovered from shock she smiled and said 'sure!'. Lamia and Kuro then shifted to face towards the viewing-mist, as I had ended up naming it. Lamia breathed in 'well I am from the Phoenix clan!' she declared happily with a proud look on her face, then turned to watch Kuro 'I'm from the Demon clan...' she explained while looking at the ground, I tiled my head in confusion at Kuro's behavior 'oh, well a lot of people have grudges against the Demon clan so Kuro was expecting a bad reaction!' Lamia boldly explained for her friend's behavior. 'So,' I started 'what about the other clans?' I asked quietly.
Lamia brightened 'oh yea! I almost forgot, well Fawn clan uses nature and flora to fight, they generally fight mid-range but mostly specialize in healing, they're sort of like the neutral party of every squabble in our world, all they like to do is heal. Not really the fighting sort.' Lamia explained brightly 'I have a cousin in Fawn clan!' she rambled on, forgetting the point of the conversation as her ruby eyes shimmered brightly. Kuro sighed slightly and took on explaining the rest 'well, Archer clan uses things they craft, all they have are wards, other than that they don't use magic at all. They fight long-ranged. Hence the name, but anyway they are snipers and more about striking quietly then disappearing and letting someone else take the blame. But they haven't done that in centuries.' Kuro finished explaining and breathed in deeply in an over-exaggerated motion of catching her breath.
I nodded in understanding 'so how did you end up here?' I asked again 'oh.' Kuro said 'well there's a rebel group that call themselves 'The Alliance' and they hate our ways, they use a forbidden type of magic, that's all we know. But the elders of the clans know more... ' she trailed off 'oh right! So, me and Lamia were meeting up, seeing as witches from different clans are allowed to be friends, so anyway we were in the forest of the white dove. Yes, it's a fancy name but it doesn't mean anything, so we ran into a warrior of the Alliance and long story short, we woke up in soul-form. Which leads me to believe he destroyed our bodies without destroying our souls, and poof we see you get hit by a car, and with your weaker mental state we easily snuck in. After all, we needed a body to be safe.' Kuro finished explaining 'wait,' I said attentively 'why wouldn't he just kill you, instead of turning to into... Ghosts?' I stated the last word questioningly, because I wasn't sure quite what they were.
Kuro looked at me like I suggested she turn me into a frog 'there's no such thing as ghosts, moron.' I narrowed my eyes and pouted 'well how was I supposed to know that?' I asked sulkily. Kuro huffed as Lamia tried to calm her down by muttering about manners.
Lamia looked up 'ah, the reason he didn't kill us is because we are essentially immortal, we are reborn. Though we don't gain our memories until around... Uhm, eight to eleven years old is the average.' Lamia mumbled, though I could still understand her. I nodded and felt satisfied... Well satisfied as I could be with two people now sharing my mind with me.
That conversation had taken about twenty minutes, I counted on the clock. I was just about to go to sleep when I heard something;
The door opening.
