The Black Cat Understands Nothing Of Humans

"Ok! Good news, your rehydrated and you can go home! Your mother is here to pick you up." Mr. Williams explained with a beaming smile on his face, it was too early for me to form an equally happy expression, so I didn't bother trying.

I simply nodded politely with a small smile that formed from relief more than joy, my mother hadn't been harmed badly. I would happily cherish that thought.

I looked around the lobby which I was standing in with the doctor, after the IV incident I had to have Kuro restrain Lamia every time a doctor got near, she had irrational fears. Just like humans, I suppose.

I smiled to myself at the thought 'say, did you guys save my mother?' I asked suddenly, startling Lamia 'ah... No, that was truly a miracle.' Kuro stated while smiling slightly, she was obviously just as happy to be rid of the hospital as I was.

'Hey, do you guys know what school is?' I asked them out of curiosity. Kuro's eyes took on a glint, she loved information and was easily the most well informed on most things than me or Lamia 'yep! I read all about human education, the only thing I didn't research was humans social customs.' Kuro proudly said while resting her hands on her hips lightly, I nodded, then winced and looked around the lobby to see if anyone had noticed my burst of inattention, no one was paying attention, thankfully. There was, like most lobbies, a few chairs where people could sit. There was a middle aged woman who had her head in her hands, she looked worried sick ' I hope she's ok, I wonder if she's sick.' Lamia muttered worriedly, Kuro looked alert and was obviously looking for signs of sickness.

I sighed lightly, there were some things that they didn't understand 'no, she's worried for someone else's sake, perhaps a husband or child...' I trailed off and pursed my lips, thinking about what was more likely. I heard a snort that broke me out of my thoughts, Kuro had snorted and was looking disbelieving 'why should she care?' Kuro asked while raising an eyebrow. I simply shook my head slightly in disappointment, before mentally kicking myself. I kept forgetting, I shifted in my chair while looking around, people were still to involved in their own affairs to notice. I gave Kuro a stern look ' people worry about those important to them, just like me and Lamia would worry about you.' I chastised while I watched Kuro's eyes grow in shock, genuine shock. She whipped her head over to Lamia and saw Lamia smiling brightly and nodding.

Kuro looked at her feet 'in my clan it's not like that... Death is apart of the natural cycle' she murmured, if I hadn't been listening I wouldn't have heard. Before I could respond I heard the lobby doors open and the familiar sounding click-clack of my mother's high-heels on the tiled floor.

I looked up and saw my mom looking relieved, as if she hadn't believed I was actually ok, then she rushed up to me and put her hand on my shoulder. I fondly shook my head at my mother's antics "I'm not a ghost mom." I explained with a sarcastic bite to my words, though undisguised fondness coated the sentence like honey. My mom brought a hand to her mouth as her eyes grew watery "oh, I'm so sorry honey, I should've paid better attention to the road, I'm simply thankful your not hurt." she explained as her voice cracked and the dam burst, tears left stains on her cheeks as she embraced me. I heard a second pair of footsteps approach and I saw my father's familiar head of chestnut brown hair and blue eyes, he smiled at me and embraced both me and my mother in a hug, I realized this must have been hard for him.

I felt Kuro and Lamia smile at the sight of my family, and I realized... I have two new members of my family.
