Chapter 1
Heyo Sinners! I'm rewriting A New Life. After looking through the other book I realized that it wasn't what I wanted it to be. So, I will be rewriting it into something that will be much better than the original book! Things will be changing, but overall they will change to make more sense in the story, and by some changes, I mean major changes, so this will not have the same plot as the old book for those of you who have already read it!
I hope you enjoy Oncoming Storm! Now, onto the story!
Also, Happy late Easter!

___________
Five figures ran through a forest bloodied and running on adrenaline as the rain heavily pelted their shin, the drops making their way through the leafy trees overhead. The sun had set not too long ago cloaking them in darkness, the only light coming from the flashing lightning that lit up the terrified expressions each of the five figures held.
"Hurry up you bastards! They're getting away!" A gruff voice shouted from behind the group of five. The sword in his hand had lightning hopping around the blade, providing light in the otherwise pitch dark forest.
One of the figures, a girl with long ginger hair and fox ears glanced behind her to see a hoard of men and woman chasing them relentlessly. Gritting her teeth, she slid to a stop and spun on her heel, facing the hoard of pursuing wizards.
"Melody! What are you doing?" A shorter girl with bobbed brown hair asked fearfully.
"Buying us some time, keep running April! Don't worry, I'll catch up to you guys!" The girl, Melody, shouted, kneeling down with a wince as a wound on her knee made contact with the muddied ground. Ignoring the blazing pain she started to write in the mud with her finger.
April hesitated before pursing her lips and turning around and catching up with the other three as they made their way through the forest.
Just as the hoard caught up with Melody, the letters she wrote onto the ground started to glow a dark purple, a barrier rising up from them and stopping the pursing party in their tracks.
"You think a simple barrier will stop us?" The man from before, the leader of the hoard, asked as he brought his sword up and hit the barrier, a few cracks appearing where he hit it.
"No. But it'll keep you back for a bit." Melody responded as she stood back up and whirled around, pressing her feet hard into the ground as she forced herself to run faster as she followed the distant, rushed, footsteps of the group. It wasn't long before Melody met up with the others, who were now seeking shelter from the downpour of rain in a small cave in the side of a cliff to tend to their wounds as much as they could with the limited supplies they had.
"Everyone here?" A tall boy with a mess of dark brown hair asked as he looked over the group that was sitting in the cave. Once making sure that all five of them were there, he let out a quiet sigh of relief.
"We did it." A girl with black hair said, running her hand through her hair. "We actually escaped that hell hole of a dark guild."
"Melody, thanks for that barrier. If not for it—" The boy started.
Melody waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah. I know, I'm great. No need to say it out loud, Finny. But, we can't celebrate just yet. I didn't have a lot of time to make it so they'll be able to break through or find their way around it soon enough. Not to mention that they'll be able to follow our magic signatures here."
A blonde haired girl looked at Melody as she fidgeted with the hem of shirt which in reality was more of a glorified rag than an actual shirt. "So, we'll need to start running again." She said.
"Sorry, Kayla. If I had more time..." Melody's ears pressed flat against her head as she looked to the ground.
"No. Don't apologize." Kayla said as she smiled at Melody even though the shadows of the cave prevented the fox-eared girl from seeing it. "You did what you could."
Melody nodded.
"But... what now?" April asked, bringing the attention to her. "They're probably going to send something out that will get the Magic Council to hunt us down. We are the Fearsome Five, and if anyone sees our magic, we'll be... thrown in prison, or worse we'll be— we'll be killed!" She let out a squeak as thunder boomed from nearby.
"Calm down, April." A girl with black hair said as she placed a comforting hand on the panicking girl's shoulder. "We don't need you panicking again."
April took a deep breath, "R-right. S-sorry Valorie."
"She is right though. One look at my possession magic or Kayla's Dragon Slayer Magic or any of our magic and we're as good as dead. So, anyone have a plan?"
There was a brief silence before Melody spoke up. "I might have a spell that'll seal our magic partly. I haven't had time to try it out but according to the book I read as long as the wizard with the seal doesn't try to access the sealed magic the seal should stay intact and nobody should be able to sense our true magic."
"Well, what are you waiting for?" Finny asked. "It's the best we can do."
Melody got up from the rock she was sitting on, her figure becoming visible in the brief light of nearby lightning. She nodded, "Right. You might feel a tightness but that's just the magic getting sealed away. It'll pass soon after it starts." She walked up to Finny first, using her finger to write something on his left forearm, glowing runes appearing on his skin after she pulled away. He tensed slightly before relaxing and glanced at the runes around is forearm.
"So, with these will we be able to use magic at all?" Finny asked as his finer traced over the runes that were now molded into his skin as if it had been there his whole life.
"You should of asked that before I put the seal on, idiot. But, don't worry, you'll be able to use magic." Melody started as she wrote on April's upper arm. "This seal just, in a way, dampens you magic."
"Which will do what, exactly?" Valorie asked as Melody finished the seal on April.
"You won't be able to use most of your magic. For example with your seal, you'll only be able to manipulate nearby objects, you will not be able to control any living creatures or make people spill their secrets." Melody answered, moving to work on Valorie's seal that Valorie requested to be mid thigh.
"What about the rest of us?" Kayla asked.
"Finny, your Take Over magic will now be something more along the lines of Animal Soul take-over. Kayla, your Dragon Slayer magic will narrow down into Lightning magic, you'll keep your enhanced senses though. Mine will seal away my Theft magic so I'll only be able to use my fire magic and rune magic due to those both being magic that I learned." She pulled away from Valorie and moved onto Kayla, the seal being written on her upper arm.
"So, no more dragon souls for me, then." Finny sighed, "Too bad."
"Can't say I'm going to miss my Storm Dragon spells. It's not like I willingly used them much anyways." Kayla shrugged.
"W-what about me? You never mentioned anything a-about what will happen to m-my magic."
Melody paused briefly. "Your magic was best if I sealed it almost completely. You'll still be able to surround someone and trap them, but I suggest you don't use that magic, it's too noticeable to the public." She finished Kayla's seal and dug around in her pocket, uttering something about 'hoping it didn't fall out'. After a few minutes, she pulled out a green, oval amulet. "I stole this as we were running out of that place. And according to what I heard from the people who made it it's supposed to be a magic item that allows the wearer to use limited Nature Magic." She held the amulet out to April, the shorter girl hesitating before she took it from Melody. "Not too strong, but strong enough to defend yourself."
"Thanks." She said quietly.
Kayla perked up, and everyone looked towards her as she walked to the mouth of the cave they were in. "They're coming. We'll need to start moving soon." She said in a hushed voice, turning back to everyone else.
"Where are we going to go?" April asked in a hushed voice.
"I was thinking maybe we could head westward. There should be a town somewhere that direction that'll help us—" Kayla stared.
"No." Finny interrupted. "There's more of a risk of us being found if we're together. I suggest we split up, that way they won't be able to track us all down too easily."
Kayla was quiet. "So... we're parting ways?" She asked after a few seconds of silence.
"It's the safest way to make sure they don't find us again. And it would be suspicious if five teens appeared somewhere matching the description of the 'Fearsome Five'." Finny said.
Everyone was quiet, thinking about the best course of action. The only sound between them was their rugged breaths and the rain dropping from the mouth of the cave onto the ground.
"I think we should split up." Melody said finally.
"Fin's right. If we split we'll be safer." Valorie agreed.
"Yeah." April agreed quietly.
Kayla balled her hands. "I guess it's settled... promise me we'll keep in touch, or at least contact each other as soon as it's safe."
"Of course, Kay." Valorie said. "But for now, we split."
Everyone nodded, and embraced each other before they stepped out of the cave and each of them listened as the footsteps from the hoard of hostile wizards got closer.
"Be safe. All of you." Finny said, glancing back at the reset of the group.
"Take your own advice for once." Valorie retorted, her eyes trailing to the ripped bloodstained rags he was wearing. He ha taken most of the hits when moving to escape the hell they had been in not too long ago.
Finny chuckled. "We'll see."
"I love you guys." April said with a sniffle.
"We'll see each other again." Kayla said. "I'm sure of it."
"Let's move." Melody said, "They're getting too close for comfort."
Everyone nodded and not even a minute later, the clearing in front of the cave was empty. Just as lightning lit up the area, the hoard that was following them arrived at the said clearing, the leader cursing and throwing his sword to the ground.
"Well. No matter, we'll find them. They can run, but they won't be able to hide."

Kayla was running through the forest. She had decided to go Southeastward, towards Hargeon and Magnolia. She was going the same direction as Valorie and April before they decided to split at a fork in the path they were on, Kayla going more east and Valorie and April going South.
Kayla didn't recognize the forest she was in. The trees were taller, and allowed more light to stream through the leaves overhead that allowed Kayla to tell the sun was rising. It seemed she had been running the whole night. Upon that realization her body seemed to process everything that had happened as her adrenaline started to die out.
Falling to her knees, She gritted her teeth as her wounds and muscles screamed out in a protest. Her eyelids weighed heavy as she tried to pull herself back up to her feet only to have her arms fall out from under her. She laid on the ground, her breaths shallow and quick. As her eyes blurred and started to close, she saw a figure walk up to her.
"Why must humans be so annoying?" The figure asked herself in annoyance before Kayla passed out.
