"You what?" I asked.

"I have to focus on school... Caleb was a distraction..." She finally said.

All her friends went wide eyed. 

"Okay... well I've got to get to work. Make sure you girls get to school on time." I said.

They all nodded so I grabbed my purse and then left the house. I got to Stark Industries and went straight to my office and I saw Peter sitting on my desk holding a bouquet of flowers. I gave him a weird look and he just smiled.

I walked over to him and he set the flowers on my desk then wrapped his arms around my waist.

"What are those for?" I asked.

"You." He said smiling.

"Why did you get me flowers?"

"What? Am I not allowed to get the love of my life flowers?"

I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him. After a bit I pulled away but I kept my arms around his neck.

"Well thank you Peter." I smiled.

"You're welcome. I was actually hoping me and you could go out tonight. Austin and Harper are definitely old enough to stay home alone and we need a date night." He replied.

"I mean... I guess we could go out tonight."

"Perfect. We are leaving at eight. Be ready by then."

"Okay."

He was about to leave my office.

"Peter." I said.

He turned around.

"Yeah?" He replied.

"I love you."

He smiled.

"I love you too." 

After he said that he left my office.

I just got home from work and I had 2 hours to get ready.

I wore a floral dress and my hair was lightly curled. I had also put on some light makeup.

Peter walked into the room.

"You ready to go?" He asked.

"Yeah." I smiled.

We walked out of our room and left the house. It took about 30 minutes to get to the restaraunt. Once we got there we were seated in about 10 minutes. We ate dinner and after that we went to a park close to the restaraunt. We walked around for a while and then went home.

When we got back to our house it was around 11 PM. Harper was sitting on the couch watching a movie and Austin was sleeping next to her. Peter picked Austin up and carried him to his bedroom so he could sleep in his bed. I ended up talking to Harper for a bit then she went up to her room so she could get some sleep.

I went to mine and Peter's room and saw him laying on the bed. I got changed into one of his T-shirts and some Pj shorts then went into our bathroom and wiped my makeup off. I put my hair into a messy bun then went into our room and laid next to Peter. We watched a movie but I fell asleep in the middle of it.

I woke up the next morning and I felt sick. My stomach hurt and I had a really bad headache. I got out of bed and went to the kitchen. I got a glass from the cupboard and filled it with water. I drank some of it and then set the glass on the counter. The water seemed to make the headache worse. I walked to the living room and sat on the couch.

Harper walked into the living room and saw me. She walked over to the couch and sat next to me. She looked worried.

"Mom... are you okay? You look really pale." Harper said worriedly.

"I don't know... I woke up and my stomach hurt and I had a headache. It's probably nothing though." I replied.

"Maybe you should go to the doctors just to make sure. You could be really sick and we wouldn't know."

Peter walked into the living room right as Harper said that.

"Who's sick?" Peter asked.

"Mom is. I told her should she go to the doctors." Harper replied.

"I agree."

...

We've been at the doctors for about 45 minutes. The doctor ran some tests and took some blood. I've been sitting in the same room, waiting for the doctor to come back, for at least 30 minutes.

The doctor walked into the room, pulling me from my thoughts.

"Okay... I've got some bad news." The doctor said.

"How bad?" Peter asked.

"She has cancer."

I froze. Out of everything the doctor could have said I wasn't ready to hear that.

"How bad?" Peter asked, a concerned expression written across his face.

"Stage 3." The doctor replied.

My heart sunk. It was too late to do anything about it. If we started treatment we'd only be losing money. I didn't know how I was supposed to tell my children that their mother was dying. I'd figure it out eventually but for now it had to be a secret.
