Chapter 3: Friend like me

"Soraru-saaaaan, how long are we going to keep walking until we arrive?", an albino asked as the older male sighed.

"I don't know... I think about one more day?", the raven-haired male asked. "Eh?! Why does it take so long?!", Mafumafu asked shocked as the other shrugged. "I don't know, I didn't choose the distance of this. Now stop complaining and keep walking.", Soraru told the younger male who sighed but nodded as he continued walking.

As they were walking, the older male noticed how the albino needed some time to keep up, slowing down once in a while before speeding up his pace to keep up with the raven-haired male.

This continued for a few more minutes until the raven-haired male had enough, stopping as he turned to look at the younger male.

"Alright, Alice. We'll go and find a place to stay the night. You are clearly not keeping up so we'll stop for today.", Soraru said as the younger male looked at him before nodding.

"Alright. Do you have a place where we can camp for the night?", Mafumafu asked as the older male looked at him as if he just said something stupid.

"Camp? We won't camp. We are not in the forest anymore so why should I camp willingly. We are going to find some place which has some open rooms.", Soraru said as he looked around before spotting an inn, walking towards it, the albino following him.

"But how are we going to get one? I don't have any money on me...", Mafumafu said as he looked down, the older male sighing as he entered the inn, urging for the albino to step inside.

"Yeah, but I have things on me which we can exchange. And I promised Kagami to bring you to Wonderland so I won't let you get killed by staying outside. Now be quiet so I can get us a room.", Soraru said as he walked up to the counter, taking his hood down for the first time ever since the two of them met as Mafumafu widened his eyes at the appearance.

Soraru was indeed handsome with his bright blue eyes and his dark raven hair which looked fluffy which contrasted a lot to his skin.

The only thing that Mafumafu thought, was a bit a shame was the raven-haired male's expression which didn't show any warmth nor happiness in them.

It quickly changed though as soon as he reached the counter where a smile settled on his face. "Excuse me, miss. Do you perhaps have a free room? Me and my companion have been traveling for some time and, if possible, would like to spend the night here.", Soraru said as the receptionist blushed before quickly nodding.

"A-ah, yes! We have a room with two beds.", the girl answered as the raven-haired male nodded. "That's great. How much for one night?", Soraru asked. "O-one night would be two silver coins!", she replied, taking one key from the drawer behind her and handing it over to Soraru who nodded once again before pulling out the right amount of money and placing them on the table.

"Thank you. Have a nice night then.", Soraru told her before taking the keys and walking ahead, the albino quickly bowing at the woman, who was still gushing about the Evil Queen, before following the raven-haired male.

As soon as they reached their room and closed the door, Soraru let out a loud sigh, his smile falling immediately again.

"Being nice is so tiring.", the raven-haired male complained as he took his hood off which he had been wearing this entire time, revealing what he was wearing underneath which was just a simple black shirt and some pants.

"Why would you pretend to be nice then? If you think it is such a bother.", Mafumafu added as he walked to one of the beds, throwing himself onto it.

"Huh? If I'm nice, I can reach more things than I would if I am mean. Of course, I am only being nice to people where I think it's gonna give me some sort of benefit.", Soraru answered.

"I... see.", the albino said with a small frown which made the older male look at him. "What? Do you have something against it?"

"Ah, no, that's not it. I was just thinking that Soraru-san probably wouldn't even need to act nice to gain things.", Mafumafu explained as the older male raised an eyebrow in confusion.

But instead of explaining it any further, the albino merely smiled as he kicked his shoes away before going under the sheets.

"But either way, I can't believe that people would actually like that smile of yours. Cause it's reaaally fake and overbearing. I could see you shine so much it was unnatural!", Mafumafu exclaimed as he watched the older male standing there speechless before he clicked his tongue.

"You don't get to say that when you fell for it when we first met, Alice.", Soraru said as he crossed his arms, the younger male tilting his head. "Who said I ever fell for that? There is something called politeness which made me not comment on it but who would ever say no to a free apple?"

"Everyone but you and utter idiots. I guess you really fit the role of Alice. Taking action before thinking.", the raven-haired male commented as the younger male pouted.

"I am thinking before doing things, thank you very much!", Mafumafu argued as the other rolled his eyes. "Yeah, sure. Though... I am surprised to see that you trusted me enough to follow me here even though I am a villain. You're weird, you know?"

But even though he said that, Soraru felt slightly content with the fact to see someone trust him. Besides some few people, no one would ever trust him after knowing his identity.

"Who said I trusted you?", Mafumafu asked as the older male who took a few seconds before he answered.

"...Then you are not a hopeless case like I thought you'd be.", Soraru answered before lying down on his bed and switching off the lights.

"Anyways, I am tired so don't you dare to wake me up.", the older male said before he turned around so his back was facing the albino.

"Alright. Good night, Soraru-san.", Mafumafu said before he lied down as well, receiving no answer anymore after that. Not like he expected one anyway.

Closing his eyes, Alice decided that he should try to get some sleep now so he could be energized enough for tomorrow.

Slowly falling asleep, Mafumafu wondered if he should have confessed that he already trusted the raven-haired male almost fully now.

But he didn't. Because he knew that Soraru would probably think he's stupid and would not care anyway.

"Urata-san, how about we find some place to sleep for today? It's already getting dark and I think we should get some rest before continuing.", a redhead suggested as the older male nodded in agreement.

"Huh... you said something useful wow. But yeah, let's find some place to camp. Luckily, this place doesn't have many wild animals around so we can sleep in peace.", Urata said as the younger male hummed, not having too much energy to argue about the older male's insult.

"Do you have a place in mind where we could sleep?", Sakata asked as the older male looked around before nodding and walking towards a place which was a bit more secluded from the forest.

"We can camp here for tonight. There are enough leaves here and the weather today is alright so we won't be freezing to death or anything.", Urata said as the younger male hummed before sitting down on the ground, using a tree to lean against it.

"Mhm, you're right! It's not that cold...", the White Rabbit said as he shuffled, trying to get into a comfortable position.

"Do you want to talk a bit more about yourself, Urata-san? I really want to know more about you.", the redhead said as he hugged his legs close to himself while propping his head.

"More about myself? There's nothing much you need to know. Just that I'm a wolf whose role is to find Little Red Riding Hood and hunt her down with her grandmother.", Urata answered as the redhead hummed.

"I see... Urata-san? Can I ask a question which is a bit more personal? You don't have to answer if you don't want to though.", Sakata said as the older male thought about it for a second before nodding.

There was nothing to lose to at least hear him out. At least now, the redhead seemed calmer than he was ever since the two of them had run into each other in the forest.

"Does your Book of Fate tell you your ending already?", Sakata asked as the brunet froze slightly when he heard that question. "...Why are you asking?"

"I'm just curious I guess... I mean, I have no ending written in my Book of Fate. Then again, I'm only a side character so we don't get very detailed endings anyway. But I heard that important characters like heroes and villains do get their endings sometimes. So I was just wondering.", the red-haired rabbit explained.

Honestly, Urata was surprised that the younger male would want to know something like this. He thought that the White Rabbit would be more interested in things such as his hobbies and what he likes to eat or something like that.

Then again, it's not like Sakata didn't ask those questions already.

"...Do you really want to know? Our endings aren't as happy as the ones you might hear or anything.", Urata warned as the other stayed silent for a second before nodding. "If it's Urata-san's ending, I want to know it. In return, I can tell you mine if you want to. After all, my ending is already revealed as well.", Sakata said as the older male hummed.

There was a short silence as neither of them said anything. For once, the redhead didn't interrupt that silence though, knowing that he should let the older male take his time to choose his words and what he wanted to say.

"In fairytales... there is always one thing that they all have in common. At least in Märchenland.", Urata started as the younger male tilted his head. "Something in common?"

"Yeah. Everyone gets a happy ending. But that "everyone" doesn't include us villains. We are set to fall into our doom. Some more than the others. And it's no different for me.

My job is to kill Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. And if I fail, I will die.

Being shot in the heart by the hunter who came to Little Red Riding Hood's rescue. Being left to bleed out to death in the very forest where it waited for its prey. Getting what it deserves for trying to eat Little Red Riding Hood and her grandmother. Death is what awaits the Wolf if he doesn't manage to kill Little Red Riding Hood.", Urata quoted.

"We, villains, always get warnings like these in our Book of Fate. They warn us what will await us if we don't succeed in our task. And it might sound fair at first, giving the villains an equal chance to get their happy ending.

But in the end, this world was set up so we would end up losing.

I still remember some who ended up meeting their doom despite everything going according to plan. And the worst thing is, we can't get to decide what to do. Even if we don't want to harm anyone, that won't be alright because of the storyline which needs to be kept in tact.

For us villains, it's a hopeless case.", Urata finished with a bitter smile.

"I see... Villains sure have it hard, don't they?", Sakata said as he gave the older male a sympathetic smile. "I might be stupid right now because I'm tired and this might not make sense but... Can't you go and change fate?", the redhead asked.

"Yeah, no, didn't I just tell you that it didn't work? Some people have tried to not meddle with anything and still couldn't get a happy ending because of the characters of their stories finding them.", the older male repeated.

"Well yes but. This time, it's different. Because the stories got mixed up which is why you and me met.", Sakata said as the brunet looked at him surprised. "So... maybe there is a chance that you can go and change your fate after all. After all, you are not in the right story anymore."

There was a short silence once again before it was the brunet who broke it. "Wow... I didn't know you could actually think."

"That is mean and you know it!", Sakata exclaimed pouting before it turned into a soft smile. "But I'm glad to see that you don't seem to feel too hopeless about your fate anymore. Let's do our best so Urata-san can also get a happy ending, alright?"

"It's not like I was feeling completely hopeless anyway. I was just a bit cautious. So don't get the wrong idea and— Did you just fall asleep?", the brunet asked in disbelief as he looked at the younger male who had dozed off, not being able to listen to him anymore.

Urata wanted to complain about how the younger male just decided to sleep while they were still talking even though he was the one who started the conversation and wanted to know more.

But instead of complaining, he merely sighed as he checked to see if the younger male was actually asleep before he sat down next to the redhead.

Carefully lying his wolf tail around the redhead, Urata made sure to keep him warm since he had noticed the younger male shivering once in a while before while they were talking.

"Don't get used to it. I am just doing it because you said something useful for once, alright?", Urata defended himself. Though he did so quietly to not wake the younger male up.

Sakata didn't answer as he merely nuzzled into the soft tail unconsciously, making the other flinch slightly before deciding to let the younger male do what he wanted just for tonight.

After some hesitation, Urata carefully laid his head on the younger male's shoulder as he slowly felt more comfortable with the unfamiliar warmth next to him.

And not too long after that, he fell asleep with the redhead next to him by his side.

*****

"Why?"

"Senra, calm down."

"Why?? Why the hell is the wolf not here?!", a blond male asked in disbelief as he ruffled his own hair in frustration.

The blond male and the purple-haired male had been wandering around for many hours already after finally reaching the forest where the Wolf was supposed to be.

But neither him nor Little Red Riding Hood were in sight. Little Red Riding Hood should be save though because she was still with her mother while the Wolf should be here, waiting for her.

According to what he had learned, the Wolf was supposed to be here. He was supposed to be.

So why the hell was he not here?

"This doesn't make any sense! He should live around here somewhere! So why is here nothing but some wild animals?", Senra asked as he started to look into every bush, the older male watching for a while before he had enough.

"Senra, calm down!", Shima exclaimed which made the younger male halt for a second as he turned to look at the older male, the genie flashing him a bright grin.

"You're right that the Wolf isn't here and all but this might be good as well~ I mean that way he can't harm Little Red Riding Hood, right?", Shima pointed out as the blond male hesitated before shaking his head.

"That may be right but at the same time, he could be somewhere closer to Little Red Riding Hood and kill her the very next second! I can't let that happen to her!", the hunter exclaimed.

"Hm... But let's see it this way~ I, someone from a whole other story, am with you right now~ Any chances that the Wolf landed in the wrong story as well? Maybe~", the genie chirped as the younger male thought about those words for a while before nodding. "...You are right about that... But what if—"

"If not, you're still here to protect Little Red Riding Hood— That name is long, I'll call her Hoodie from now on~ Anyways, you're still here to protect grandmother and Hoodie~", Shima pointed out.

"Don't call her Hoodie, that's weird. But... you're right.", the blond male said with a small smile. "You'll help me to kill the Wolf, right?", Senra asked as the older male nodded with his usual grin, crossing his arms behind his head.

"Of course~ Your wish shall be my command~ And I have never failed to fulfill a wish before so you can be assured that I will succeed this time as well~ You can see me as some sort of friend if you want to~ I'll be the best friend you'll ever have~", the purple-haired male told the other who relaxed as soon as he heard that.

"A... friend? I... have never had anything like that. Would you be willing to be my first one?", Senra asked as the older male nodded.

"Of course~! I will be the bestest friend you'll ever have~ I can even make you have a lot of friends after this if you want to~ But just to say, you'll never have a better friend like me~", the genie chirped with a toothy grin, the younger male nodding with a grin of his own.

"Alright! I will continue to count on you then, Shima-san. Let's do our best to find the Wolf and kill him! For the sake of Little Red Riding Hood and Grandmother!", Senra exclaimed as the older male hummed.

"Yup~ Count on me~ I will fulfill your wish 100%~ Because you've got a friend in me~"
