Chapter 18: Names II

"So we don't forget when we wake up. Let's write our names on each other."
~Your Name, Taki Tachibana~

"This... is the castle?" I asked staring at nothing in particular, probably looking dumbfounded.

"I think so?" Ethan replied back, getting off of the horse helping me get off after.

"Wait, You've never been here?" I asked, a scowl resting on my face.

Ethan showed an awkward smile.

I inhaled a deep breath before speaking again. "How did you even manage to do a transaction? You don't know the name of that man you've been claiming as your master and you also don't even have a clue where he lives." I pointed out.

"I'm sure he's just somewhere here. The rumors in Pangaea are always true." He defended.

I gritted my teeth in frustration. "Rumors? You abducted me because a rumor said that this man wants a wife? You know what? If that man isn't really existing then my abduction is just a waste of your time."

Ethan raised a brow, emerald eyes blinking slowly. "If so, then I'll just sell you to the brothels in this city. You're young and pretty. I'm sure the brothel's owner would be more than pleased when I show you to them."

"If Jungkook is here, you'd be on your knees right now begging for your life." I spat.

"Pardon? Who cook? I believe-" He was cut off by the sudden convulsions of the ground.

The ground shook beneath us violently making me fall to my feet. The ground broke right at where Ethan stood and he began to stumble over to the large hole. He almost fell off but luckily, he was fast enough to grasp the end of the earth's surface he was standing at a few seconds ago.

My eyes widened and out of reflex, I scurried to where he is and saw him hanging on the edge. His arm is trembling and it looks like he's going to let go of his hold any second.

His emerald eyes locked with mine and I saw fear on them. His lips are also trembling and it looks like he's whimpering but he also wants to say something.

"Señorita..... H-help me." He whispered softly as if he's not really intending to say those words on the first place.

The shaking of the ground finally stopped and I was looking at Ethan blankly. Thoughts of helping him crossed my mind but there are also thoughts of letting him be.

If I don't save him, his death would haunt me everyday.

His life is in my hands, saving him is right.

But.....

This man abducted me. If I let him die, I'll be free.

I am here because he's planning to sell me.

He harmed and threatened me.

He took me away from the hatter.

Focusing back on Ethan, I saw him scrunching his face and his arm that's holding unto the ground is slowly letting go. Our eyes locked again but I was first to look away. I got up from my hunched position and started running away.

Meanwhile, the man's eyes softened seeing the young woman runaway from him. He shouldn't have hoped that she'd pity him after the way he treated her. It was his fault anyway.

Closing his eyes, he lets go of the earth's surface and was ready to accept his tragic faith not until something grasp his wrist.

More like someone.

"Stupid! Why'd you let go? Can't you endure a little more? You almost fell, you bastard!" I screamed, gritting my teeth after.

Ethan's eyes widened. He's mouth opening and closing but he didn't utter a single word. Using my capable hand to grab the rope I tied on a tree, I tossed it to him.

"Grab unto that. I'd pull you up." I said, my teeth still gritting.

He complied, taking a hold on the rope and I let go of his wrist. I grab the other end of the rope and started pulling him up. After some time, I finally managed to pull him up and brought all of him on land.

I slumped on the tree, catching my breath. He was kind of heavy considering his size. That took a lot of strength for me.

"T-Thank you." Ethan stuttered out, also catching his breath.

I just looked at him and nodded before speaking. "You owe me now."

Ethan nodded and he closed his eyes, trying to still his breaths.

Looking up, my jaw dropped when I saw something that wasn't there before. Eyes widening, I turned around and stared at the tree I was resting on just a moment ago.

It wasn't there before. This place is as empty as my wallet when I was in middle school before. So where the hell did it came from?

"Ethan." I called the man before me.

He didn't respond so I called him again louder the second time.

"What?" He asked, his voice sounding so rough.

"I think you're right. We found the castle." I stated and that made the man before me shot up from his lying position and also look towards where I was looking.

I started walking towards the enormous golden gate of the said place, my eyes admiring the way the golden plated designs littered the wall's whole structure. My knuckles went up and I was about to knock on the said gate not until a firm hand held my wrist back.

"Don't do that. I thought you don't want to be sold?" Ethan asked and I rolled my eyes snatching my wrist from his grasp.

"One minute you are all out about selling me off and then the next second you're preventing me from knocking on the gate of my 'supposed to be' husband where you would sell me? I'm honestly thinking that you have some loose screws in there." I mocked, gesturing at his head.

He glared at me. "I owe you my life. If you didn't save me back there, I'd be more than six feet under the ground. I'm just trying to be nice and letting you off is what I think the nicest thing I could do for you, señorita."

Clicking my tongue, I ignored his words and knocked on the golden gate three times.

His eyes widened and he grabbed my wrist and was about to run off when someone opened the gate.

A seemingly young kid peeked out of the space between the opened gate and our eyes locked. After a second, he was already grabbing my hand into his tiny ones and is dragging me somewhere.

"H-hey!" Ethan yelled, after he recovered from the shock of seeing this kid whose dragging me somewhere out of the blue.

The kid finally stopped running and faced me. He gestured for me to continue walking on the only path infront of me.

"Your lover is waiting for you there, Miss." The kid happily stated before running off to who knows where.

I looked back where we came from and didn't notice any sign of my companion from earlier. I think he lost us. The child is really a fast runner.

Straightening up, I hesitantly walked towards the path infront of me. It felt right to walk on this path but something feels wrong. Shaking the feeling away, I walked continuously until I reached the end of the path. There, a bunch of ladies around my age started advancing towards me making me back up a little bit.

One lady grab my arm and started twirling me around, checking my body out. She then gave a thumbs up to the other ladies and they all squealed in unison.

"Oh good day! We found the sweetheart he's looking for!" One with a very long hair cheered.

"Such good news for our master! He must've been waiting for this day all along! He's going to finally wed his rightful bride!" Another one said with very prominent red eyes and white hair.

"She's going to bear beautiful kids for both of them! Look at her body! It's perfect for child-" A familiar voice cut her off.

"Woah, woah, stop right there. I can't listen no more to such things." Ethan remarked before grabbing my wrist. "We shall continue are journey, señoras. Adios."

"What are you doing, huntsman? Put those dirty hands away from her! She can't be tainted! The master would be furious if so!" The lady with long hair yelled, glaring at Ethan.

Ethan ignored her but another yell of protest from another lady was heard. "Stay away from her! You're filthy and she's precious! Her name was given to her because of her importance! You, on the other hand don't even have a name, huntsman!"

At that, Ethan's shoulder's tensed and he abruptly turned around and headed to where the ladies are standing.

He towered infront of them and he spoke in a venomous voice staring at all of them dead on the eye.

"I may not have a name but that don't mean I would let myself get degraded because of it. I am a man and even without a name, I could live my life the way I wanted to." Ethan spat before turning around again, dragging me with him.

When we reached the golden gate, a last yell was heard and it was a threat.

"You'd regret taking the sweetheart away from her lover! He's going to make you pay for that!"

Ethan closed the gate with a loud bang and let go of me. He glared at me and clicked his tongue before speaking. "I did tell you not to get in there didn't I?"

I looked at him dumbfounded and he chuckles to himself.

"They've been talking about your capability of childbearing in there, señorita. It's not a good sign. If I didn't get you there on time, who knows if you'd be in bed by now with that man they are referring as your lover." I shivered at that, grimacing in disgust.

Raising my head, I was suddenly locked in a staring contest with the man standing infront of me. His nature colored eyes flashing.

"Who are you really?" I asked, crossing both of my arms on my chest area.

Rolling his eyes, he spat the name he told me he is using. "I'm Ethan. You know that."

I didn't respond. I just continued scrutinizing him with my gaze to which he hissed.

"Don't do that." The man infront of me hissed and I raised a brow, signaling him to continue. "Don't look at me like your some scientist and I am your powerless guinea pig."

Blinking my eyes slowly, I stopped staring him down but I refused to budge. I'm going to get the answers I am seeking for.

"What's your real name?" I questioned and he let out a huff.

"Fine." He muttered. "I am nameless okay? Ethan is not my name and never would be. Happy?"

I didn't respond right after because I don't have an idea on what I would say. He laughs at that.

"Funny right? Now you know why names aren't of any importance to me. Because I don't have one in the first place." He chuckled, bitterly.

"But that's impossible. Everyone has a name. Didn't you meet your mother? How 'bout your father? They would be the ones who would give you your name-" I stopped talking when he started chuckling repeatedly.

"I don't have a father nor a mother. I grew up by myself with no one looking after me. I grew up far from the civilization alone. I am the only one with me all that damn time. No one was around. Not even a single soul could be seen passing by my house back then." The man infront of me narrated.

"How'd you survive then? When you're still a little baby?" I asked and he smiled.

"Animals. They're the ones who nursed me when I was young. They're the only ones I could put my trust on. I grew up with them but I went to the civilization to survive when bastards decided to burn the place I considered as my home. They hunted my animal friends and took them away leaving me no choice but to run away." He explained.

"Why, where's your parents? Don't you have atleast a cloth with your name on it?" I continued asking.

"I don't have a clue on their whereabouts. Again, a name is not important. We could survive without it." He stated.

"You're just gonna let it be like that for the rest of your life?" I asked my brows furrowing.

He raised a brow looking unbothered. "Why? Is there a problem with that?"

It was my turn to let out a huff. "What would people call you then?"

He smirks to himself. "Well, let them call me whatever they want to call me. I won't even care if they call me a pig."

I sighed at that. This man is really a pain on the ass. "What about when you marry? What would your wife and children call you?"

He seemed to be stunned for a moment but he quickly shoots back an answer. "My children could call me father and my wife could call me whatever endearment she preferred to do so."

"That's ridiculous." I commented but he just shrugged me off.

After a few minutes of silence, he decided to speak again when he noticed that I am not speaking anymore. Truth is, I am thinking of something.

"A penny for your thoughts, señorita."

"Where's your penny then?" I asked and he looks at me unamused before tossing a coin my way.

"Now tell me what you're thinking about." He commands and I shrugged before speaking.

"I'm thinking of giving you a name."

He raised a brow at that, crossing his arms on his chest.

"What for?"

I grinned at him. "You know you owe me right? So this is the payment I am asking for. I get to give you a name and you don't owe me anything anymore."

"If I somehow agree to use that name that you would be giving me? What would it be?" He asked.

"It's a name that would be known by many because it has a title after the name itself." I joked and he nods profusely.

"I wonder if the name sounds like scientific names." He mutters to himself but I heard it clearly.

"Do you want me to compare you to a Canis Familiaris?"

"A what?" He asked but I ignored him.

"Can't you just tell me the name? You'd been beating around the-"

I shut him up by spitting out the name I was planning to call him from then on.

"Kim Seokjin, The Huntsman."
