Chapter 13: Parties
"A cup of tea is an excuse to share great thoughts with great minds."
~Anonymous~
An hour.
An hour since I agreed to join Hoseok and his cat on his little tea party in exchange of him healing my wounds.
At first glance, you'll think that he's a kind-hearted man. He looks good and radiates brightness. He doesn't even look like he could kill a fly.
Wrong. Very very very very WRONG!
I thought that minute he saved me from the witch, I'd be free to go out of this forest. I thought that he's a good samaritan at some point. But, I am mistaken.
He is indeed mad.
The moment I accepted his hand that he offered, I was harshly pulled inside his house. At first, I tried fighting him but it was to no avail. The mad hatter is a male after all.
"Your tea is getting cold, honey." The hatter spoke in a warning tone, forcing me to drink the tea infront of me.
I am now dressed like some kind of ragged doll. My bruises from the encounter with the witch all covered up. A pink silky balloon dress covering my entire body except my head and arms. My hair braided in a crown-like manner.
I finished sipping from my cup of tea and brought it down on its saucer. That thing made the man infront of me smile proudly like he's a dad that saw his own daughter walk for the first time.
"Do you want another cup, honey?" He asked but it's not a question. It is merely a charade he is playing.
"Yes." I sighed out and he smiles before bringing the teapot over and pouring down its contents in my teacup. It's my tenth tea from the hour we started this mad tea party and I'm starting to question if I could still intake much more. Hoseok is not having any problem about drinking more than twenty cups from the last hour. I hope I could do the same.
"So where are we again? Ah! We're on the scene when Alice is still a clueless young girl that decided to roam around my land's premises." He chuckled to himself, smiling charmingly.
More like creepily for me.
I chose to play along with his narrations this time. "Then what happened? Did she join your tea party too?"
"Of course. She is too naive. She immediately believed everything that my intelligent mouth told her. I told her to drink this tea then POOF! she became what she is now. A witch that feeds on human meat." He giggled wiping fake tears away from his multicolored eyes.
On the other hand, I sat there, still and frozen on my place. My blood run cold and I could feel my whole body trembling in pure terror. I stared at him my mouth opening and closing before I managed to stutter some words out.
"T-this tea made her like t-that? T-this thing t-turned her into a witch?" I asked, fear consuming my entire system.
"It did. Just a single drop of that tea could make a human crave for his own kind's meat." Hoseok explained like it's some kind of a normal thing happening.
When he told me that I needed to join him on his mad tea party, I was concerned if the tea would suddenly make me drop dead on the ground within a second. After taking ten cups of it and I still feel alright for an hour, I thought it is just a normal tea served by a mad hatter. But again, I was wrong.
What will I do now?
I balled my fists and glared at the hatter infront of me. If I hadn't learned my lesson earlier from fighting him, I wouldn't hesitate to pounce on him right at this very moment.
"So you're planning to turn me into a witch like what you did to Alice? You're planning to make a monster out of me?" I accused him.
He pouted putting his right hand on his chest as if he was shot in there and is hurt. "Honey, don't be like that. It's not funny."
"I am not trying to be funny! I am serious!" I lashed out standing on my two trembling feet. "I'm going to be turned to a witch and you think this is funny?!"
"I don't think it's funny. I find it amusing, honey." The redhead chuckled darkly, his multicolored eyes dimming its brightness.
"You're a madman. I shouldn't have agreed to this in the first place." I stated, venom lacing my tone.
He then laughed so hard making him shook his body. He clutched on his stomach and continued laughing that way until the cat on his lap hisses and clawed its owners arm.
Hoseok smiled at the cat before he brought the arm his cat clawed near his face. He then licked the blood that oozed out from the wound.
Disgusting.
He noticed me staring at him while he's doing his business and a mischievous smirk appeared at the corner of his lips.
"Wanna have a taste?" He asked, motioning to his wounded arm.
"W-what?" I gasped, twisting my face in disgust.
"I asked if you want to taste my blood, honey." Hoseok smiled, his toothpaste commercial worthy teeth showing.
"You're insane. I can't stand staying here anymore. Let me go. I don't want to do anything with you." I spat, standing up ready to walk away.
"You may leave but you can't. Not when you just drank ten tea cups of my tea, honey." Hoseok giggled.
I narrowed my eyes in his direction trying to know what he's implying with those words.
"So you're going to let me go? But me drinking the tea you offered makes me a prisoner in here?" I asked and Hoseok clapped his hands repeatedly.
"You're intelligent." He applauded. "But not wise."
I gritted my teeth turning away from him and proceeded to leave his place.
"You'll end up exactly like Alice." The hatter snickered out but I chose to ignore him and continued walking away.
"Or not if you're lucky enough."
That statement caused me to hault in my steps and turn to the mad hatter. He sat there arrogantly, caressing the fur of his cat slowly.
I walked up to him and stopped right infront of his seat. He smiled and looked up at me, his multicolored eyes entrancing me in a manner that makes me have a headache.
"Don't play words with me, hatter. Tell me what I need to do so I wouldn't be turned into a cannibal." I demanded.
"Have a seat, honey. You would immediately get tired if you stay standing there." The hatter suggested but I didn't bother to move a single muscle.
Hoseok's smile faded and he crossed his arms. "I see. So are we going to start or you want to say something first?"
"What's the deal?" I asked, determined to get everything over with.
Hoseok smirked. "You need to get atleast one of the three riddles I'll give you right. If you came out successful, you'll be freed from the tea's curse and from this forest. But, if you don't get that victory, expect to be craving for human meat overnight. You're also going to be stuck here for the rest of your life."
"Deal."
"I'll give you an easy one for your first try, honey." Hoseok giggled, standing on his feet making me step back. He grinned and started circling me in a slow manner.
I kept a stoic face and didn't bother to follow his steps with my eyes.
"I am always with you~
I always follow wherever you go~
You can't see me and I can't see you~
Only the mad hatter could do so~" Hoseok sang his multicolored eyes glowing brightly.
Repeating his words in my head, I could only think of one thing. I'm not even sure if what I'm thinking is right.
"Shadow. The answer is shadow." I affirmed and Hoseok's smile grew wider.
"Wrong, honey. Two more to go~" Hoseok sang happily, his walking turning to little hops around me.
He seemed to love watching people suffer.
"Now, for the second one." He cleared his throat. "I am—" I cut him off.
"What's the answer to the first riddle?" I asked but I immediately regretted ever asking when I see the look the hatter is giving me.
If looks could kill I'd be dead right here, right now.
"You know, honey, I am not fond of disrespectful people. Specially the one's who cuts me off when I'm talking." He remarked and I gulped.
"The second riddle would be the last one. Consider this as your punishment for interrupting me while I'm talking." Hoseok continued. "Anyways, the answer to the first riddle is a rainbow. It follows you everywhere, honey." He explained, with a crazed look on his face
I could feel my blood running cold once again and my knees felt like they would give up any second. I wish that I never asked for the first riddle's answer. The answer has no sense anyway. I think he just made it up to make me lose hope that I won't ever made it out of here.
But, I will make it out of here. I will make sure of that. I won't be turned into some kind of monster lurking in this horrible forest.
"He's intelligent
Ideas are fluent
He loves riddles
In his ear it tickles
He is good
When he's on the mood
He doesn't want anyone
Because they don't treat him like a human."
When he finished saying those words, he locked eyes with me and that's when I knew the answer to his riddle.
"I-It's you. You're the answer to your riddle." I stated, my eyes not leaving his for a second.
He chuckled. "How would you know it's me? Do I look human to you?"
I shook my head. "You did not deny my answer so it means I'm correct. Now, break whatever magic or spell you casted on me earlier." I stated, confidence now seeping through me.
"Answer me first, honey. Then you are free to go." Hoseok pleaded.
I looked in his multicolored eyes once again and started talking. "No, but I know you're one. You're just different from the rest of us."
"How different am I to you? Am I a human that could be considered as a monster? Or a person with disability?" Hoseok queried, his eyes' color beginning to dim a little.
"You're special." I said without thinking any further.
"W-what?" Hoseok gasped.
"I said that you are special. You are human but is different from the rest because you are special." I continued and suddenly I was engulfed in a tight hug.
Jung Hoseok, the mad hatter, is hugging me.
I should be freaking out but why do I feel like hugging him back is the right thing to do right now?
"You are special, Hoseok. Never forget that." I repeated and I held him as he started to sob softly.
"T-thank y-you." He sniffed and I nodded caressing his back.
He pulled away and once our eyes met, I felt a strange force pulling me away from him in a fast pace and out of the forest.
But, before the force started pulling me away from the hatter, I heard his last words that made me remember that he is indeed a hatter and not just a lonely soul.
"Fairfarren, Y/N."
A/N
