You're My MVP (2K Special)

4 weeks and 1 day left...

//Your POV//

After the whole Alex situation, he went home since he was "homesick".

I thought that he was just heartbroken and couldn't handle being around me, beside avoiding Max at all costs.

David walked into the Mess Hall while we were all eating breakfast, and rang his handbell.

"Okay Campers, Today is the 1st day of Lake Lilac Field Day! We will be competing against the other camps on Lake Lilac, which are the Flower Scouts and Wood Scouts, for 3
days."

Everyone groaned as a reply.

Nikki had told me about the Flower Scouts, that they shamed her for being who she was and that one of them was obsessed with Neil and all I thought was 'Jaiden's gonna fuckin' stab her, lol.'

"We will be doing one sport each day by each camp's choice, The problem is that we don't have one picked out and our choice is for today, so I was wondering what you all would think would be fun," David explained.

"How about we just don't do it?" Max suggested.

"No, Max. This is good for you all to bond and work together. Any real ideas?"

Everyone just looked at each other and shrugged.

I sheepishly raised my hand, "I have an idea."

"What is it, Y/n?"

"Baseball," I smirked.

"That's a wonderful idea! You play it?"

"With my friends for fun, yeah."

(Unless you actually play it (and/or softball) )

"Yes!! A good old fashioned game of baseball, it's perfect!"

"What do we do about uniforms? Every good team has a uniform," I started to actually get into the idea.

"I have some shirts and hats with the Camp Campbell logo in the office."

"We're gonna be awesome! And Jaiden can be the catcher since she's close to the ground," I stood up beaming.

"I will not fail, I will accomplish my mission. For the motherland!" She saluted, making me laugh.

"Haha, yeah!!"

"Alright Campers, let's all meet up back here in an hour, right now you can have free time after eating," David said as he left the Mess Hall.

"Now if you excuse me, I'm gonna go practice my swinging with a random stick," I stood up from the table.

"Oh! Oh! Me too!" Nikki got up and followed me.

"Y/n you aren't serious about this baseball thing," Max groaned.

"Oh I'm serious."

I looked around at everyone and noticed how weak these people might be, 'this won't do..'

"Okay, you know what? How about we all practice?"

To my surprise, everyone looked excited, well, except for Max.

"No thanks," He started to walk away.

"Don't you want to beat the Wood Scouts and rub it in their face?"

"You have fun with that, I'm not that type of person. It's not going to benefit me in anyway so why do it?"

"C'mon, Max, you don't even want to take the chance to make them look even the least bit stupid??"

"I told you I'm not interested."

"Okay..bet Alex would be happy to do it," I mumbled, knowing that would tick him off.

He stopped in his tracks, "oh for the mother of- fine, I'll play the stupid game."

"That's the spirit, now let's get practicing!"

We all went out by the edge of the woods to a little clearing.

"Nikki, I want you to throw that pine cone at me and I'll try to use this stick as a bat."

"Alright!" She threw it at full force.

I swung the makeshift bat at it and it landed a little far away from me.

"Nice swing," Jaiden complemented me.

"Why thank you, chap," I chuckled, "Neil! You're next to bat!"

"What?? No, no, no. I can't bat, I-"

"Shush. Just do it and comment later. Show me what you got!"

He hesitantly took the stick and got in position.

"Harrison, you pitch," I turned my head to him.

"Oh, okay," Harrison took the "ball" from Nikki and got ready to throw it.

"Aim away from my face please.." Neil shivered.

Harrison swiftly threw the pine cone.

"Ngh!!" Neil made a swing out of instinct.

It landed half the way mine did but Jaiden and I cheered.

"Woo-hoo! That was awesome!" Jaiden sounded like a cheerleader.

"And that was a great pitch, Harrison," I put my hand on his shoulder.

"Thanks.." He looked satisfied.

"I've got a good feeling about this team!" I beamed.

And so, we all practiced.

Here are basically what everyone's strengths and weaknesses were when it came to Bating, Pitching, Catching, and Running.

Neil was more comfortable throwing the ball than bating or catching, and had trouble running due to low stamina.

Nikki was the complete opposite, having strength in bating, throwing, and ran fast, but she couldn't focus enough to catch the ball.

Max didn't try much, but when he did he had good potential for bating and catching, and his running was standard, Things would be better if he gave more effort though.

Nurf was a powerhouse when it came to bating, he exceeded everyone's records when he swung, though running wasn't his forte, but he was fine with catching and pitching.

Nerris was quick, giving her an advantage to running and catching despite her petite size.

Preston was actually great at pitching, but wasn't the best at bating, and his catching and running needed work.

Ered was all around, being okay at everything, since she's the coolest.

Spacekid on the other hand needed a lot of practice, but he was really fast.

Harrison was good at pitching and catching, though his bating and running were moderate.

Dolph's skill set was very similar to Nerris'; small and nimble.

Jaiden could only catch when we're on field and had to sit out while we bat because of her wheelchair, though she was skilled at catching the pine cone.

I can safely say I'm an all around just like Ered.

"Campers, come here please!" David yelled, causing us to crowd around him.

"The other camps are on their way here. I saw you all practicing, do you think you're prepared?" David asked us.

"Hell Yeah!" Jaiden yelled, "I think Y/n should be our Team Captain!"

"Yeah, she was really great with practicing," Nikki agreed.

"And she's super supportive," Harrison added.

"Aw shucks, guys. I'll lead us into victory!" I punched the air.

"That's what you think," A certain, snobby voice was heard.

We all turned our heads to see a group of Wood Scouts Campers and Flower Scout Campers behind them.

The Wood Scouts Campers were wearing a black and white uniform with their logo on it.

The Flower Scouts weren't wearing any sort of uniform.

"We like, don't want to do this spooort," A red-head scoffed.

"Yeah, like I don't want to break a naiiil," Another girl with blue hair said.

"Are you sure? It will automatically put you at the bottom of the scoreboard," Gwen warned them, surprised and they nodded.

All the Flower Scouts sat on the bleachers.

David handed each of us our uniforms, "Change, quickly."

Everyone ran to their tent to change (I had to give Max that sort of look that says 'I'll beat you with a fucking baseball bat if you don't' that made him change).

I put my cap backwards on my head with my hair down.

I had denim black shorts on that complemented the green Camp Campbell T-shirt.

I quickly tied up, black high top, converse and ran out of my tent.

Nikki handed me a bat, which I had around my shoulders.

Pikemen walked up to me, a shit eating smile on his face.

He held out his hand, "Good luck, doll face."

I spat at the ground dramatically, "Fuck off, dick face."

He grimaced and walked back over to his team, so I walked back to mine.

"Everyone, huddle up."

We all gathered in a circle.

"Look, I dunno how strong these guys are but hear me out: We work them out for the beginning of the game so their tired at the end, so if we're losing we can strike back. Just stay focused and try not to let them piss you off. I believe in you guys," I gave a pep talk, "Y'all ready to kick some ass?"

"Yeah!" Everyone chanted.

"Okay, They're up to bat first since they're on our turf."

I thanked heaven that Camp Campbell had a kickball field that could be used as a Baseball Field and the Wood Scouts brought over actual equipment.

Everyone got out field, except for Dolph, Ered, and Neil, who will be switched out.

Jaiden put on the face mask and glove for the catcher position and got into her stance, wheeling over behind home base.

I stood as a pitcher while everyone else was an outfielder, Nerris on 1st base, Harrison on 2nd, and Nurf on 3rd base.

**A Few turns later...**

I was back as a pitcher, Pikemen up to bat.

I got in position to throw my wicked curveball, and threw it.

He swung it with a 'clunk!'

All at once, I saw a white blur and felt a burning wave of pain on my mouth.

Before I knew it I was on the ground, surrounded by everyone.

"Pause the game, Pause!" David yelled.

"I think we should take a halftime.." Gwen suggested.

"Yeah," Neil nodded.

David pushed his way through the crowd and looked at my face.

He made me show him my teeth, thank god they weren't harmed, and just said that my lip would be a bit bruised.

As we were taking a water break (and I was pressing ice against my swollen lip), Max walked over to me, "How's your lip?"

"Hurts, but I'll live."

"Damn moron got you straight in the mouth," He scoffed, pissed off.

"You're doing really good," I told him.

"Tch, Yeah right. You're doing way better, being Team Captain."

"Thanks, I try. But really, give yourself some credit."

"Make me," He smirked.

"Bleh," I pulled down my eyelid and stuck my tongue at him.

We both just started laughing.

**Timeskip to the last switch of the game.**

Our Team and The Wood scouts were tied and
we had one last person up to bat.

The last one who had to swing was Max.

"C'mon Max!" I cheered for him, cupping my hands around my mouth.

I was on the sidelines with the others, cheering him on whilst squatting by the ground so I didn't get my pants dirty sitting.

He got in position with the bat and when Petrol threw the ball, he was too late.

"Strike 1!" Yelled Billy.

He looked pissed and really tired at the same time, Pikemen's nasally laughter not helping.

He swung again at the next ball.

"Strike 2!"

"You can do this Max! I believe in you!" I yelled to him, standing up.

He looked at me, his face red with sweat and anger.

We made eye contact, causing him to nod at me, and get back in position to swing.

Petrol threw the ball.

"WONK!"

The ball went flying so far, it was out of site.

"Home run!" I happily yelled.

Max ran around the field, past the bases (flashing Pikemen the finger as he ran past him on 2nd base) and came back to home base.

"I knew you could do it!!" I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"I..had no idea..I could do that," He huffed.

"We won!" Nikki yelled, making us all cheer and whistle.

I led Max to a bench and sat him down, Jaiden handing me a water bottle to give to him.

He took off the uniform hat, opened the water bottle, and squeezed it causing water to explode all over his face.

"That's better."

"Max, we won, and it's all thanks to you," I smiled.

"I knew those pricks got nothing on us."

"Yeah."

The Wood Scouts and Flower Scouts left without a word.

"I'm ordering us some victory pizza!" David announced, causing everyone to follow him except Max and I.

"Thanks for believing in me."

"Max, I've always believed in you. You're my MVP."

His face went red, "Thanks..."

"How about we catch up with the others?" I stood up.

"Sure," He nodded.

We started walking away to the others,
together.
