Pit-Stop
*I love this song*
//Max's POV//
I woke up, still in the car to the sound of Y/n and her uncle screaming lyrics to a song.
"FUCK A, SILVER LINING! FUCK A, SILVER LINING!"
Her Mom looked at the rear view mirror and noticed I was awake, "Nice job guys, you woke him up."
"Whoops, Sorry kid," Sam apologized.
"Sorry Max," Y/n chuckled.
"You can't stop them when it's Panic! At The Disco...especially Sam," Her mom grumbled, who looked really tired.
"How many hours has it been?"
"Three, and we still aren't there yet!" Y/n whined.
"How 'bout this? We're can stop at the next Pit-Stop so your mom can get her coffee fill and we can have a bathroom break?" Sam suggested.
"That's a good idea," Y/n nodded.
"There's one coming up now," Her mom said.
After 5 minutes, we pulled into the parking lot.
"Hallelujah!" Y/n stepped out of the car.
"Fresh air and freedom from a swerving car! What I've been waitin' for!" Sam put his hands in his pockets.
"Well you didn't have to come!" Y/n's mom started to nuggie him.
"Wanna go inside?" Y/n asked me.
"Sure," I shrugged.
"Ma! We're going inside!" Y/n yelled to her mom as we watched them wrestle in the parking lot.
"K, Sweetie! Just gotta teach Uncle Sam not to underestimate me!"
*btw your mom kinda reminds me of K.O's mom from OK K.O*
Y/n and I were just walking around the place when she asked, "Why are you so quiet?"
"Huh?"
"You've been quiet all morning."
"I've been sleeping."
"When you're awake, I mean. Why? Is something wrong?" She questioned me.
She had that worried look on her face.
The face that gets me every time.
"Nothing's wrong."
"Max. Tell me the truth," She put her hands on my shoulders.
"I'm fine really I just...don't want this to end," I admitted.
"What do mean? We'll be together at camp."
"I know that, I mean...after the summer ends," I rubbed my arm, "It's the last year. My parents won't allow me to be a counselor, which I'd only do to see you and maybe the others."
"Oh....I forgot about that. How many weeks are left?" She asked, a sad look on her face.
"5."
"Then we're going to make these 5 weeks the best we've ever had, starting with yesterday!" She smiled, stars in her eyes.
Y/n walked to a vending machine and bought a chocolate bar.
She broke it in half and gave it to me, "Here ya go."
"You can have it, I'm fine."
"Come on."
"No."
"Please?"
"Y/n, I don't want any-"
She grabbed my arm, pulling me close to her and put the piece of chocolate in my mouth.
"You should know I don't take no for an answer," She giggles, stars in her eyes still, a gleaming smile.
I reluctantly chewed and swallowed the chocolate, "Yeah, I should."
Y/n and I had our eyes locked together.
She was still holding onto my forearm.
Then, I heard two snaps.
We turned our heads to see a short girl with brown with blonde streaks, short hair, wearing a sweater (somehow??) and black stretch pants with black and white converse.
She had black sunglasses on and was chewing bubble gum.
They also little earrings that represented coffee cups.
In their hands was a baby blue Polaroid camera.
"*Whistle* These came out good," They whistled.
"Who the hell are you, taking photos of people??" I yelled.
"Relax. It's kinda my job."
"The fuck??" I mumbled.
"Here y'all go," They handed me two copies of the same photo.
It was me and Y/n in that same position from before.
The Girl popped her bubble gum, "One for each of ya. I thought it'd be good since after August y'all won't see each other until at least..maybe, 9 or 10 years??"
"What the fuck are you talking about? How the hell do you know that?" I asked.
They shrugged, making an "I dunno" noise.
"I gotta go. Have fun in high school. I won't be there for another 2 or 3 years but from what I heard," They looked at us with a dead stare, "It's hell."
"Uhh...Thanks??" Y/n raised an eyebrow.
"No prob, bob."
They walked over to a wall that had a sign with a number 4 on it.
They raised their leg and kicked it.
I also heard them mutter "here ya go audience" and walk away.
Y/n and I just looked at each other.
"What...the fuck...just happened?" Y/n mumbled.
"Did the nearby asylum have an escapee or some shit?" I shrugged making Y/n laugh.
"At least we both have these!" Y/n smiled as she looked at the Polaroid I handed to her.
"I'm definitely keeping this," I nodded.
After 5 minutes of sitting on a little wall, talking and laughing about that girl and sharing chocolate, Sam and Y/n's mom found us.
"Hey, we're back."
"Whattup, squirts?" Sam asked, sipping on a bottle of Starbucks, "I just saw the weirdest kid. They were texting on their phone and singing broadway songs out of tune and tried to steal some dude's croissant."
"So you guys saw them too," Y/n chuckled.
"Yeah, The kid was pretty weird," Ms. L/n shrugged.
I held out my photo, "They took photos of us and gave them to us."
"Weird, but awesome," Sam snickered.
"I need to use the lady's room so uhhhh, be right back," Y/n excused herself and walked off.
I watched (a little sad she left) her go down a little hall and enter the bathroom.
"Me too. I'll be back," Ms. L/n went off too, leaving me and Sam.
"Sooo, kid. You like the smol shrimp?" Sam asked me.
"Wha..?" I asked, confused on what he meant.
"Y/n, I mean. Do you like Y/n as in "I want to be her boyfriend" like her?" Sam rephrased his words.
"Ohhhh...uhhh...erm *cough*."
'What the fuck is wrong with me?? Why can't I just say some fucking words?!'
"Y-Yes," I coughed up the word.
"Easy, kiddo. I ain't gonna tell."
I did a little "Phew!" In my head.
"But.."
I instantly took it back.
"If you ever hurt her, I'll make your life a living hell."
All of Sam's chillness had turned to seriousness.
His eyes had a stern look on me.
His eyebrows furrowed.
The only thing that hadn't changed was his smile, still plastered on his face.
He went back to his normal look, "Don't worry, bucko, you don't look like the type to be like that."
I wiped my forehead, trying to clear it of sweat.
"Just be a nice kid and you'll do fine."
"Y-Yes, sir."
"Sam, not sir, bud," He chuckled.
"R-Right."
A minute after that, Y/n and her mom came back.
"We're back-..Max what's wrong?" She asked me.
I still couldn't function after what just happened.
I couldn't even construct a sentence.
"Samuel, what did you do?" Ms. L/n asked.
"Iiiiiit's Okay," I finally sputtered the words.
"Um, okay."
"Let's get goin'. Still got two hours ahead
of us and I can't wait to see the mountains. I heard their Hill-arious," Sam punned.
Ms. L/n put him in a headlock for making the pun, letting Y/n have time to lean over towards me.
"Whatever he said to you, don't worry about it," Y/n whispered in my ear.
I was still standing there while they were all walking away.
She ran back to me and grabbed my hand.
I started running with her to the car.
"Come on, Slowpoke!"
**BONUS**
//???'s POV//
"think imma go play some emulated mario paint later.." i mumbled to myself, waking out of the rest stop.
i held onto my stolen croissant, headphones playing the heathers the musical soundtrack.
i watched through another exit seeing y/n and max run out holding hands.
"welpers. they're in fucking luv."
I took a bite of the croissant.
"max is gonna fucking die when he's in the more romantic situations later," i muttered to myself, food in still in my mouth, "wonder if birb is free today."
