The Living Dead [4]

I don’t know how long it has been but I know it has been too long. Aurora was supposed to have picked me up by now but she has been nowhere to be seen. I have been cooped up in this room for too long and I am losing my mind.

We had a plan.

I was to confront that witch and find a way to save Kai. Aurora had agreed but then she never showed up. I've been anxious that something bad will happen. I stop my pacing and sit down. I have to be calm about all this but it is getting difficult as time passes.

The unlocking of the door makes me stand in anticipation. I have a lot on my mind to speak to Aurora but the person that enters is a stranger to me.

“Where's Aurora?” I frown.

“You should come with me this instant.” The strange woman says and I follow her out of the room.

She has on the same outfit as Aurora but with slight differences. Aurora's outfit was maroon while this one is in dark green. Her outfit looks more like that of a warrior and I wonder what it is that she does here. She takes me in a direction I had never ventured before. I gasp at the beauty of the place  we’ve just entered.
There are women dressed in colours doing all kinds of magic. Some are tinkering with plants, other's water, fire and telekinesis? I'm not so sure of what I’m seeing and when I feel a hand pulling me forward, I realise that I had stopped walking. I follow the woman as she led me away from the place.

We encounter a few other women dressed like my guide and they acknowledge each other with a slight nod as they move on. We enter a blue building that has a very long corridor with few doors each in a different colour along it. We follow the corridor and seeing as how we passed several doors, I assume we still have a long way to go so when my guide suddenly stops, I'm caught off guard and bump into her figure.

“Sorry.” I murmur to which I get a raised brow in reply.

The woman knocks thrice on the red door then wait. It takes about 4 minutes before the door is pushed open and she gestures me in. The room we walk into is some sort of waiting room as there are chairs around and a desk with a woman wearing an Indigo outfit by it. The woman I came with point me to a chair so I walk there and sit.

She talks to the woman by the desk for a while as she types on her computer several times before smiling up at the woman I came with who nods and looks at me. I stand at her nod and follow him through another door when he does so. We come to a corridor with about five doors and we stop on the forth door which he knocks at gently.

Aurora is the one who opens the door this time and when I see her I breathe out in relief. The place is so strange with just women everywhere and no names to go by with.

“Sylvia,” Aurora addresses the woman I came with and I look up at Sylvia.

“Aurora,” she breathes out the name in a whisper and when she starts blushing I raise a brow. “About what I talked of before; can we....you...I mean-"

“Yes, Sylvia.  I will let you know when my schedule clears and then we can arrange something.” Aurora says and Sylvia nods vehemently.

Aurora turns to me and grabs my hand then pulls me inside the room. The door closes behind me and I glance at in confusion.

“Was that.....was she asking you out? Is that allowed?” I ask Aurora who sit down on top of a desk in the room. I look around the room and it seems like I have entered an office.

“Why can’t it be allowed? Of course it is okay to be in relationships here.” Aurora replies and pushes a chair to me.

“I just thought that being a spirit and all it is just not allowed, you know.” I explain my half-assed logic and Aurora grins.

“There is a colour which is white that does not engage in any relationships. Mostly, all they do is meditate, practicing exorcism and some are able to heal others.”

I nod at her words but then something comes to mind. “What’s up with the colours though?” I ask the thing that has been on my mind. I also notice how the door we walked in was in Maroon matching Aurora's outfit.

“The colours are what we are. We are each our own colour and that is how we are grouped. Each colour represents a certain kind of us with a specific power and duty. I'm Maroon and what we do is mostly like a guide. Our powers are associated to my colour and duty.”
My mind goes through her explanation word by word and I realise I'm lost. I noticed a lot of colours earlier and knowing all those colours have meanings, it's too much. For some reason, I know I will have to know everything and all I worry about is time but then, when one is a spirit time shouldn’t matter, right?

“What about me?”

“What about you?"

I roll my eyes but then ask the question clearly. “What colour am I,  Aurora?”

“Oh, that is why we are here.” She replies with a smile.

“It is?” I frown.

“Yes. You see, when a spirit is chosen to walk the path of a rainbow, they get sorted out right away with-"

“But what about me?” I cut her off to which she glares at me.

“Still explaining,” she gestures at herself and I smile apologetically. “As I was trying to say, that is how other spirits are sorted after chosen. There are special occasions where souls just appear in our realm and as a guide we take you to our headmistress where she sorts them out herself. It has happened sometimes that those souls that appear here are not even meant to be here so we guide them to their right paths.”

“Then what about me?” My voice comes out in a whine making Aurora's lips curve in a smile. It felt like she was holding out on me and I was really anxious to hear my verdict of colours.

“It's not strange for special spirits to be provided with special needs so I didn’t think much of it when I was assigned to guide you.” Aurora says and I frown at her.

“What’s so special about you being my guide?” I ask curiously.

“Because I am one of the rainbow generals or captain or whatever you want to describe it. I am in charge of Maroon and it is special to be assigned to me. I thought you were sorted by the mistress to be a Maroon so I began giving you lessons to be as one and you were passing each with flying colours.  The easiest spirit to ever teach.” Aurora smiles proudly.

“So I'm a Maroon then.” I smile too because that seems to suit me perfectly.

“Not really.” Aurora grimace.

“What do you mean?”

“Normally, when you are a Maroon it literally means just that, a guide. But then remember when you run into the witch? You were so angry and I saw dark green on you in a flash. That doesn’t happen to Maroons. I was so startled that day I rushed out on you about being stupid and challenging a witch. I dismissed it when I couldn’t find a reason to backup my thoughts. Then Kai went missing and while watching those women cry, I saw Blue clearly as you subconsciously tried to comfort those weeping women. You left and went outside where I followed you. Right then, I acted on my instincts.

When I told you that you could focus on the bond you have with Kai to locate him, that was something a Peach does. They are some sort of trackers and before I finished explaining,  you were gone. You tracked down Kai's last known location just like that. When you came back and explained what happened I was over the moon.” Aurora looks at me intensely that I fidget in my seat. She had this awe look in her eyes and it was over-bearing.

“Aurora, what are you trying to tell me? Am I a defect?” I ask even though I dreaded her reply.

“What? No! How did you come up with that conclusion? No, Loretta, you are something special. I have a theory and I discussed it with some of my fellow generals and we decided to work on the theory by having you train with each-"

“What? Are you even hearing yourself? Train with each and every one? How many generals are even there? I don't have that time, Kai-"

“You can’t help Kai at the moment either. You need this training if you want to continue-"

“But the goddess-"

“Is not here to help you jog your memories. You have to help yourself to help Kai.” Aurora argues and I sigh.
I really wanted to help Kai and I wanted to remember what I saw when I apparently tracked down Kai's location. There was a blank in my mind, words on the edge but unable to speak them out. Something had happened and I need to know what.

“Are you sure about this, Aurora?”
I am not sure myself and having Aurora confirm that would put me at ease. She was the first person I saw when I arrived here. She was there beside me from the moment I met Kai and she is here now trying to help me find my colour or was it colours now?

“Our time is different from Kai’s. You might spend a thousand years here and it can only be a hundred years there. With how fast you learn, I'm hoping you will do so with the other colours and if that's the case, not even a month will go by and it will just be mere days there. You will not miss out on Kai and you will help him.”
Aurora's words ease my mind.

I will help Kai and also the vampire prince wherever he was. He was my good friend and if his disappearance is related to that of Kai, I will help them both.

“What colour will I start with?”

“Blue had insisted but nothing beats Red when he's eager too.”

“He?”

“Yes, he. We have male spirits too you know. They are just on the other side.” Aurora chuckles while getting up and holding out a hand to me. I grab it and stand then walk with her through a door.

This place really had a kink with doors.

With a sigh, I think, ‘Here goes nothing’.
