The Living Dead (3)

The night was dark with no stars or moon. We appear just outside Kai's house and thankfully, someone was entering their home so we used that chance to slip inside as well. I might somehow be a ghost now but the prospect of walking through walls is a bit creepy even for someone like me.

"But you literally jumped at entering Kai's body and yet you think walking through walls is creepy?" Aurora had said when I told her about the walls.

I had simply shrugged in response because neither I, had an answer to that. Going inside Kai's body is somewhat my one in a million luck and I didn't think it was weird but if we are comparing that with walking through walls then I guess I am prejudice.

I don't know why we didn't just appear inside the house but either way, we are now inside and we follow the man that had entered before us.

"I got your call; what is happening?" The man ask two ladies who are cuddling? on the couch.

One has very short hair and she looks to be tall from where she is sitting as she hold the other woman who is sniffling as she wipes tears from her face. There are a ton of used tissues around them so I assume there was a lot of crying here earlier.

"Dad, why did it took you forever to come here? You are an ancient vampire so I believe you have enough speed to flash yourself here in a second." The short haired woman snaps which takes me off guard as she had addressed him as 'dad' at the beginning of her sentence. How can people be rude to their own father.

"I'm sorry; I have a situation at work and-"

"And you deduced that situation is more important than my missing child?" The short haired woman fires back at the man who looks exasperated for a second before he somewhat calmly look at the woman. She gets off the couch and approaches the man angrily. "This just shows how selfish you are. You don't care about me or about your grandson."

"What happened to Kai?" The man, who I figured is Kai's grandfather asks.

"Who knows? No one fucking knows what happened to my son. His phone is off, his friend has gone MIA. No one saw them at school and from what he texted us, he said he was going on a date yesterday's night after classes but until now there is no message or update from him." The woman, Kai's mother explains in anger but I can see how scared and helpless she is.

"What did the authorities say?"

"They are still looking." The woman on the couch replies as she stands up.

Kai's mother hurries to her side as she offers help to keep her standing but that seems useless as the woman suddenly crumbles down on the floor with another wave of tears.

"My baby," she sobs and I want nothing but to comfort her. "What if he broke his heart and he is somewhere battling with a heartbreak all alone. He isn't g-good with nursing a br-broken h-heart. What if he is lying somewhere in a ditch bleeding out and I'm here crying instead of looking for him. I should-"

"Stop, please." Kai's mother cries after hearing, who I assume is his wife's grief.

I then remember my first encounter with Kai. He was hurt when I first met him and he spent some time in the hospital recovering. Now that I think about it, I remember seeing his parents there but I didn't pay them mind at the time as my only focus was Kai. But it seems my focus on him were not sorely on his well being. I hadn't inquired as to how he was hurt when I first made contact with his body.

"Leticia, you know how sincerely I love and care for my grandson. I will do anything to have him come home safe and sound. Just take care of yourself and Amber. Don't be-"

I leave the room, not bothering to hear the rest of the man's statement. I can't watch the two grieving women while doing nothing to help. I want to help find him.

I don't care about my fear of walking through walls as I pass through one and find myself outside of Kai's house. I pace back and forth as I think of all possibilities of his disappearance.

"Do you think Jett is involved? He did saw me in Kai's body so maybe he did some research and found him. That means I can be involved in his disappearance right? It is all my fault." I conclude as I face Aurora who sighs and shakes her head.

"I already checked Jett; it wasn't him."

I frown at Aurora and she shrugs in response. It might not be Jett but somehow she suspected him enough to crosscheck him first before coming to get me. I don't know how to feel about that fact.

"Are you sure it wasn't him?" I ask for assurance and Aurora nods vehemently. "Okay, it wasn't Jett but Kai is missing now. Do you think he's taken his life just as he tried to do many times before?"

"No; I don't think he has lived here long enough to fall that deep in love with someone to die for. His parents would have thought about it if it wasn't for the whole emotional burst. They are not thinking rationally and so they are just thinking about the worst case scenario." Aurora scoffs while shaking his head before looking at me seriously.

"What?" I ask.

"Kai is no where to be found. I've looked and so has everyone but he can't be found anywhere. This only leaves you, Loretta."

"What about me? I have no idea of his whereabouts as much as you do." I retort in frustration.

"I know that but you don't know that you can find Kai if you truly focus on it. You have a special bond with his body now."

I close my eyes in exhaustion and sigh. What bond is she talking about? Is it because I can use Kai's body? I groan with my hand massaging my neck. "Will that even work?"

I wait for a response but no one replies, so I peak an eye out at Aurora but what I see puzzles me. I'm no longer in front of Kai's house as I'm standing in a room that looks like it had been rummaged recently.

There are some sort of police tapes; the kind that ward off people to not cross them. I pass through them easily as I go to investigate what exactly happened. Nothing tells me a thing though so I end up even more confused than how I was when I got here.

But how did I get here?

Where was Aurora and where the hell was I?

"No, my love. She has ordered us to kill the rest of the subjects except for four that show promise." A woman's voice sounds and I wait for her to appear. For some reason, I'm not suprised to see Sheryl appear by a corner as she narrowly pass me by.

"She's taken an interest in those two whom I have no idea of their identity except that one of them is some sort of vampire prince.....She's keeping them in her best prison until the job is done." Sherly laughs mockingly and I follow her as she goes further inside the building.

The phone call ends as she knocks on a door that opens for her a second later. I move to follow but somehow I hit a wall. Frowning, I look around seeing nothing but when I move forward again I bump into a wall. The door closes but I don't lose hope as I am aware I can move through doors.

The next hour is spent in a series of bumping into a barrier that prevents me in entering the room Sheryl had entered a while ago. I try other wall and I go through without breaking a sweat but when I go back to that room I'm held off.

It reaches the point where I just seat down before the door and glare daggers at it. If looks could kill, I bet the door would have been blown in a thousand pieces by now.

I replay the words I heard earlier and wonder who the targets are or who the vampire prince is. I smile as I remember my version of a vampire prince, a man that I grew to love and care about in my life. It was my secret, something I would never let him know because I knew he shared my feelings.

He was more of a husband than Jett could ever be. He was my best friend; someone who understood me. But I was a naive girl back then as I fell head over heels for the big bad wolf that showed interest in me.

That was the biggest regret in my life.

"Oh my god! I remembered Vlad." I exclaim happily when I realize I can remember everything about him. Unlike my memories with Jett, his memories had filled my head with a smile on my face and there was no pain in any part of my body.

What did that mean?

My thoughts are put on hold when the door in front of me opens and Sheryl walks out. I glance inside the room which looks beautiful that what the building has to offer from the ruins I witnessed before. There is a desk and I lean up to see who's there and who I see looking down at me freeze my body movement.

She frowns slightly before smiling and waving at me as the door closes slowly while keeping our gaze locked.

"Loretta!"

I blink as I feel someone's hands shaking me and when my eyes focus on the figure in front of me, I startle when I see Aurora's worried face in my face.

"H-how did I-i get h-here?"

"Loretta, one minute you were here with me and the next you were gone. You had disappeared for hours and then you appeared out of nowhere sitting on the floor and looking like you've seen a ghost. What happened? Where did you go?" Aurora blabbers on and on but I just look at her.

She shakes me once again until I get annoyed by that and pushes her off me. I assure her that I'm fine and begin telling her of my appearance at the strange building.

"Give me all the details you saw about the building."

I frown as I try to recall said details but nothing came to mind. Then I thought about the woman in the office. The walls of the office had some kind of drawings.

"There was blood on the wall and some kind of wolves. They had red eyes and they looked like they were snarling angrily with blood dripping from their sharp teeth." I explained the drawing and Aurora sighed.

"That should be Blood Hounds. It's a club in the city but it was raided days ago by the police for illegal activities. The club was distributing a certain drug called The Sun. It is very deadly and a lot of vampires had died from it for the past weeks. It should be empty though." Aurora explains and my heart starts hurting.

The sun.

Jett used to refer to the flowers I grew for him as sunshine.

"Plus, it seems a vampire prince has indeed gone missing."

"What?" I frown.

"Prince Vladimir is missing and vampires are running around searching for him in every nook and corner."

I open my mouth to tell Aurora who I saw sitting in the office but the words gets stuck in my head. An image of the person in the office putting a finger on their lips flashes in my head and just like that, no words about her seem willing to come out of my mouth.

"It's a good thing I know who to approach to get answers, right?" I change the train of thought in my mind as I make my next plan.

"Who?"

"Sheryl, of course."

"That's a good thought, Loretta. I think you went there because Kai was there but maybe you couldn't get to him because of the barrier you felt. We know they have prisoners in their prisons. We just have to figure out how we can get to them and get their identities from Sheryl."

Despite doing this for Kai; I am doing this for my vampire prince. If they have Vlad, I'll do all I can to get him out of there. Plus, I had to see things through with the person in the office.
