Glaring lights. Thunderous roaring. Metal carriages of all shapes and sizes that whizzed by without needing horses.

Jungkook stood at the edge of the park and watched everything keenly, taking it all in. His gaze lowering and head following each new sight with equal parts curiousness and enthusiasm.

He'd never witnessed this many magical things in one place before.

It was spectacular.

As he continued to admire his surroundings, two human girls walking along the roadside path saw him and began whispering to each other behind their hands, which, unbeknownst to them- Jungkook could hear perfectly.

"Oh em gee, Sowon! Are you seeing what I'm seeing!?"

"Right? How is he so freaking hot... nnngh Eunha, hold me, I think my ovaries are gonna explode!"

"You should definitely go talk to him!"

"Should I? Okay, hold my Gucci!"

Jungkook's ears twitched as he heard one of the pair approaching, smoothing down her hair as her friend egged her on from behind. The girl tapped his shoulder so he reluctantly tore his gaze away from the splendour of the sights before him, to gaze at her and the girl instantly went flaming red in the face.

It was a reaction Jungkook was very used to.

The girl eyed him coyly. "Excuse me, but are you lost?" she asked.

"Why? Are you offering your services to me?" he rumbled, and the girl giggled- twisting on the spot like a child.

"Maybe," she answered. "If you give me your number I can text you and we can discuss it over a soju sometime?"

Jungkook's brow arched.

His number? Text me? Soju?

He didn't have the faintest idea what this girl was talking about. All he knew for certain was that she wanted to mate with him.

Desperately.

He could smell the arousal rolling off of her in waves. And whilst the smell wasn't offensive per sey, it also did absolutely nothing to peak his interest.

With this in mind, Jungkook bent down with a dark smirk and slowly ghosted his lips around the shell of her ear.

"Pickled cucumbers," he murmured as she shivered, and the girl tilted her head, looking at him through glazed eyes.

"H-Huh?"

He leaned back and looked around, distracted. "That's what you smell like," he informed casually. "Unfortunately for you it's not my taste but don't despair, Miss. I'm sure fate will find you someone who'll be willing to breed you soon enough."

Without waiting for the girl's reply, Jungkook sniffed at the air, picking up something titillating then trotted off in search of it.

Meat!

He could smell it even when buried under all the other powerful scents this land had to offer.

It made his stomach rumble.

How long had it been since he'd had meat? Not gruel or that prison slop, but real, tasty succulent meat?

Letting his senses guide him, Jungkook somehow found himself entering through a clear glass door of some sort of Inn. The place was large and bustling, with humans occupying almost every table; all which were filled with plates piled high with food.

And the Prince was tantalisingly close.

Jungkook could tell he was hiding somewhere nearby but he couldn't pinpoint his exact location in this place. Not with the strong smorgasbord of scents enveloping him.

His stomach rumbled again but he gritted his teeth, steeling himself.

"Don't forget what you're here for," he muttered. "Don't forget what's at-"

Suddenly someone hurried by with a tray and Jungkook began to salivate.

"Steak..." he trailed off with a loud growl, and a group of diners at a table close by turned around and stared at him. Some, with appreciation and others as if he were a crazy man.

He turned away from their gazes and curled his fists, conflicted.

He had to keep a low profile. He had to find the Prince. But the urge to complete his mission and gain his freedom was battling with his natural animal compulsion to feed... to feast.

Though why couldn't he do both?

From what he could tell the dog was still in the vicinity and a wolf's got to eat, doesn't he? Can't work on an empty stomach.

With a decided nod, he marched over to a free table and sat down, grabbing a menu.

"Just a quick bite," he vowed under his breath as he bit his lip and scanned the endless list of options. His leg jiggled under the table with anticipation.

Chicken, fish, beef...

It was impossible to choose.

"Hi there, I'm Hani and I'll be your waitress this evening!" a voice declared, and Jungkook looked up to see a pretty brunette serving girl, smiling at him brightly behind a rather large pair of spectacles.

Cute, but again... not his thing.

She smelled like honeysuckle. Too flowery. Too sweet.

He shot her a disarming grin. "Hello, Hani. Is there anything you would recommend?" he asked deeply before turning his attention back to the menu, and her smile faltered a little.

"Wow, you're- w-wow, you don't need dinner, y-you're a whole snack!" she stammered out then cleared her throat, adjusting her glasses. "I- Anyway, the specials tonight are chicken noodle soup, braised tofu, lamb-"

"Lamb?"

His head shot up.

Jungkook loved lamb.

It was a wolf thing.

Young and juicy and frolicking provocatively in fields, bouncing up and down with their soft wooly rumps-

He shook his head. "Stop it, control your inner desires," he muttered and the serving girl winced and looked away- misunderstanding.

"S-sorry...I'll try my best," Hani mumbled, casting her eyes to her writing scroll. "So, is that a yes to the lamb?

"Is it fresh?" Jungkook pursed his lips. "I only want it if it's fresh."

Hani smiled again, nodding. "Yes! It's fresh, just came in this morning."

"From where?" he queried and Hani tilted her head slightly, perplexed.

"From... where?"

"Is it wild lamb from the highlands? Farmed lamb from the lowlands? Spring lamb from green pastures? Forest born mutton?" he clarified, but when she just blinked at him with her mouth open he clucked his tongue.

"Nevermind." He folded up his menu and put it back on the table. "I'll take the lamb, just make sure it's undercooked."

She frowned at the request but scribbled down his order anyway. "Did you want any rice, noodles, fries, mash or coleslaw with that?" she asked and Jungkook's nose wrinkled, appalled.

"No rice, no vegetables, no sauce, no garnishes- just meat," he said, then thought about it for a second and chimed, "And six glasses of milk."

"That's the lamb special with no sides and six glasses of milk," Hani recited. "Got it!"

Jungkook let out a contented sigh, grinning as he relaxed back in his seat with outstretched legs.

This was great. He could imagine himself sitting here all night, eating until his belly was round and fu-

A dog bark abruptly rang out faintly through the wall behind him, which brought him crashing back to reality.

Drat, he'd let his wolf side take control of his judgement again!

His grin fell and he reached out, grabbing Hani's arm before she managed to leave.

"I almost forgot," he said. "I'm looking for my doggy. A golden retriever. Have you seen him around by any chance?"

She turned to him with a delighted smile. "Oh he's yours?" she tittered. "Solar said that Taehyung found a retriever in the park. I'll go get him for you!"

Hani hurried away but Jungkook had never been the type to exhibit patience. To just sit around waiting for the things he wanted. So he got up from his seat and tracked her down, locating and following her as she walked up to a closed door at the end of a hallway.

That's when Jungkook's senses went haywire.

Even with the door still closed, the smell of dog wafted strongly from that room. But there was another scent melded with it too- one he'd smelled when he was in the park but struggled to determine.

Masculine but also pretty and delicate... and mouthwatering.

As he strode up behind her she turned around. "Hey! You can't be back here."

Jungkook ignored her, purposefully reaching around to whip the door open and enter, only to find it empty. But it hadn't been for long. Both the smell of the dog and the pretty aroma permeated the small space.

They'd been together in here and they'd probably left together too.

The Prince had found a helper.

He glanced down and saw what was written in the spilled flour, so he discreetly scuffed the message out with his foot to make sure Hani didn't see it, as the latter stepped into the room, looking around with wide eyes.

"Umm maybe he went home," she suggested. "We could call his brother, Namjoon. I know Solar said that Taehyung had hurt himself."

Taehyung?

The owner of the delectable scent.

"The poor thing," he breathed, rounding on her. "Where does he live, this lovely fellow? I have to thank him personally."

Hani watched him closing in, looking nervous. "Well, I don't really think I'm supposed to give you that information without his permission, you know, I don't know who you are..."

Jungkook backed her against a wall and trapped her between his arms. Letting her feel the heat of his body and the full force of his hypnotic gaze.

"Oh, don't worry," he husked ever so gently. "You can trust me."

Quiz - Did you catch the song reference?

Sowon & Eunha (Gfriend) - The supportive friend & the one that smells like cucumber

I was trying to emphasise that Jungkook is a half wolf so he always has real wolf urges but I think I just made him seem bipolar! 😖

Any questions, feel free!
