I was still unnerved and I still felt as though I were in a dream. One dream where I had dreamed where I had been with Jareth, this time though something was very different. There was a sense of urgency and danger. Two things that don't tend to work well with me. Still nothing about Jareth showed me that he was weak so that made me wonder how he slept for so long? Jareth went behind a door, no doubt changing from his long rest when his door opened again.
George walked forward a few steps, after making sure the door was secure and locked. He also had a look of worry plastered on his face and needless to say it was not comforting at all.
"He's awake, what did you do to wake him?" George questioned me as he looked from the empty bed to myself.
"I honestly just talked to him, I didn't kiss him or any fairy tale thing like that." I tell him the complete truth as Jareth walks in again.
"You found her, on earth, now you have returned her to her rightful home. That woman out there, claiming to be Sarah has to sense that something is wrong and it will only be a matter of time before she tries to kill one of us." Jareth says nonchalantly as he puts on a long coat.
"Kill us? What did I ever do to her?" I ask a bit defensively.
"Your life, is an insult to her. She was the one who killed your Fae family and weakened them to the point that they had to leave this world. I wouldn't doubt she may think you have come for revenge." Jareth speaks somewhat softly as he walks up to me. "I have known you since you were a child, that is why I was able to visit you in your dreams though I was at time preoccupied. We are of the same kind but what was asked of us before I met Sarah seemed logical and well worth but..."
"Why does all this sound like a weird betrothal story? I mean I don't think I am close to your age, no offense." My mouth peaks before my head has time to filter my words.
George tries to hold back a laugh and turns away from Jareth and I. Closing his eyes briefly and taking in a deep breath he tries to contain himself, opening his eyes once again, he looks right into mine.
"Age means nothing to Fae's, you will do well to remember that. As long as Fae blood flows through your body, in this world, you are immortal to time." He speaks confidently as he circles me.
"What of the woman then? Obviously, she will know you are awake when she sees you, what will we do then?" I ask almost afraid to hear the answer that will come out of his mouth.
"I will continue the act of thinking she is Sarah, say a miracle has occurred and never eat anything that has been prepared for me again."
That was his plan?! Did he miss that part where the woman said that his funeral was tomorrow? I don't think that she is going to be too happy to not only see him up and walking but healthy as well. Jareth doesn't really say much else as he walks up to George and whisper something in his ear which makes George look back at me before nodding to Jareth.
"What are you two up to? I fulfilled my deed so can I do home? I mean really I don't belong here and I think my sister is probably worried sick about me." I say as I start to walks to the door.
"The world you know is all a lie, those people in your world are not your family. The last of your family is buried less than three miles from the castle." George now speaks up making me stop in my tracks.
"He's right, once one of your family has passed on, their bodies return here, to their true home." Jareth confirmed what George had been saying, which just confused me even more.
"Then what do you suggest I do? If that woman finds me she will want to kill me, Jareth will be too busy pretending she is Sarah so who will be around to keep me safe?" I ask with a bit of anger in my voice.
"I will, I am your guard, it is my job to assure your safety." George says as he walks up to me.
"I don't like this at all. You just show up out of nowhere and now I am stuck in a world that I only use to dream about." I sigh as I look down at the ground.
"Change her clothes, if "Sarah" notices anything different about her then that will make her even more of a target." Jareth says as he walks George and I to another random door in his room. "This door will take you to a secret room stored with anything you can imagine. Use it well and George keep her hidden until midnight, I will meet her in the garden then."
We didn't get a chance to say anything else as Jareth than shut the door, that then disappeared before our very eyes. This was something that George seemed to be used to, since he took my hand and led me down the long brick hallway. Granted there were torches, no doubt lit by magic, which lit the way but the deeper we went into the tunnel the more I wondered about the story I was just told. How was I a Fae, and if I was how did they know that?
Another door then appeared before us and without the slightest bit of hesitation, George opened the door and led me inside. Quickly closing the door behind him, he then began to search throughout the room. The contents of the room would be a hoarder's paradise. Yet out of all the amazing things inside of it, George returned with a light grey skirt, white shirt, and black vest.
"Going for a Sleeping Beauty theme?" I question sarcastically.
"No, I am going for the clothes that will help you to blend in." George says handing me the clothes and turning around.
Shrugging, I take off my old clothes and put on the ones that George gave to me. Turning back to look into one of the many mirrors that adorned the room I couldn't help but be reminded of sleeping beauty. Hopefully that didn't mean I would have to hide out for 16 years though, that is too long here, even for me.
"Alright I'm done." I tell George as I turn around to face him.
"You look, beautiful even in grey." George comments and then clears his throat.
"Wait, Jareth never answered the betrothal question so please George tell me what is the purpose of me being here?" I tell him as I grab his arm and stop him from fleeing.
"Maybe that is the reason, you are of Fae blood and with Jareth you could restore your family name with his help. He is the Goblin King after all." George say a little disheartened.
"An arranged marriage...who in their right mind would agree to that?" I scoff as I try to think of who honestly would agree to that.
"You have known him your whole life though, you feel something for him even I know that, you just have to believe that he would treat you just like he would Sarah." George tries to convince me.
"No, that's the problem George, I'm not Sarah and if he was as in love with her as you say then there is no way a marriage between him and I would work. No matter how hard I tried, I would hate to take second place in someone's heart, especially someone I would have to call husband."
George didn't say anything but he did nod his head, as though he agreed with my argument and then he cleared his throat again. He acted like he was nervous around me, though I had no idea why besides the coffee incident. Sitting down I couldn't help but feel a little trapped. Here I was in my dream world...only to have chaos even inside of it. Kneeling down beside me, George took my hand and held it tight.
"I do not know what choice you will make but know that I will behind you each step of the way, you have a long road ahead of you and I do not envy you for it either. Come we must play our part now." George says helping me to my feet.
"What part would that be?"
"We do whatever that woman says until we can come up with a plan to take her down forever." George sighs as he leads me out of the room.
"A new servant girl...send her to the gardens to pick herbs. King Jareth has finally awoken, we must prepare a banquet!" the Sarah look alike yells and the servants in the kitchens cry with joy.
Seeing her sinister smile though made me feel even more wary towards her. Taking the wicker basket, I made my way to the door to the gardens and barely got outside when I saw George standing there waiting for me. This was going to take a lot of getting used to, I really hoped to find a way to get rid of that woman and fast.
Not sure when the banquet would even take place, I gather the vegetable in the basket and set them aside. Looking past the garden, I could see woods in the background and just something about them made me want to explore them. Standing from my kneeling position, I cautiously walk into the forest. It looks like something right out of a fantasy movie. Everything looked so healthy and alive, now that Jareth was awake maybe that was why everything was alive again?
Stopping a lake, I couldn't help but look down into the clear water. It looked so calm and so inviting but I knew better than to be tempted by it. I knew nothing of what lay beneath the surface of the water. Turning around I was very surprised to see that George had followed me out into the forest as well.
"You got tired of the garden?" he asked with a slight grin.
"I wanted to see more of my dream land, every sight here is so amazing. The woods are so calm but mystical at the same time. It's as though you could dance right through them." I couldn't help but giggle as I thought of such nonsense.
"Have you ever tried?"
"Tried what?"
"Dancing through the woods? Maybe it will help to clear your mind or make you forget for even just a moment." George said as he offered me his hand.
Looking up into his eyes, I could see that his offer was sincere and without a second though my hand went right to his. Gently pulling me into his arms he began to dance with me as though we were the only two people in this world. If this was supposed to help me it wasn't, instead it was making me feel something for George I hadn't before and I wasn't even sure what that feeling was. Instead I just went along with his movements and danced through the forest.
