There I stood in the garden, a place I had visited quite often in my dreams. It was full of the most beautiful and unique flowers that any one could ever imagine, even me. Sitting down next to a flower I leaned forward far enough to smell the flower and was pleasantly surprised by its scent. It was a wonderful mixture of a rose and peppermint scent. Just from the smell of the flower a small smile appeared on my face.
"You seem pleased." A male voice called out from behind me.
Turning around my smile grows wider as the man who had been in my dreams so many times before stands there as if he had been watching my in the garden for a long time but didn't want to disturb my peace. Standing from my spot, I dust off my long light purple dress and taking my time I walk up to him.
"Anyone would be pleased in such a wonderful garden." I smile as I look up into his two different colored eyes.
"No others are allowed here besides me and you." The man says as he takes his hand and gently takes ahold of mine. "You still have so many things to learn Laura. The visions you have of this world are not as different as you might seem them to be. Though I am not like you."
Tilting my head to the side in confusion I wondered what he meant. How was he not like me? True he did look older but he always looked that way, always. Maybe that is what he meant maybe because he was in my dreams that is why he wouldn't ever age?
"I am not human." He answered my silent question.
"You don't look like a vampire or werewolf to me..." I respond unsure what else he could be.
"No, I am neither of those beings either. I am something you may or may not have heard of." He tells me as he leads me out of the gardens and to the random hill I always appear on in the beginning of my dream. "Our time is nearly spent, I will have to reveal myself to you when we meet again."
All the sudden I could hear bells chiming though I had never heard them in my dream before this told me that my time was up and that my dream would soon be over. Looking back to the man whose name I never did ask for a reason I did not know I saw him smile at me. Leaning in I felt him barely press his lips to my cheek. Pulling back for just a moment I couldn't help but watch him.
"After all these years it is only now you want to know my name?" he questions me, nodding my answers he crosses his arms and smiles wide. "I am Jareth, remember that for the next time we meet."
That's when I woke up to my alarm clock. Lifting my head to look over at the cursed object I tried my best to ignore the urge to hit the snooze button but I ended up doing at anyway. Five more minutes, even if I had that time would I be able to know what Jareth was talking about? Sitting up in my bed something told me it would take a lot longer than five minutes to understand what he meant.
"Time to start another day." I sigh blowing my strawberry blonde bangs out of my face. "If only time went by as fast in real life as it did in dreams."
Getting out of bed and starting my normal routine, I get in the shower, brush my teeth and get dressed. Rolling my eyes because even though I woke up on time something told me that I would still manage to be late. It was my curse, I swear it. Grabbing my things, I make a run for the door and quickly closing it behind me I turn around and lock it. About to turn back and run out of my apartment building I feel something quite solid hit me...followed by something very hot going down my brand-new dress.
"OW!" I yell at the top of my lungs as I lunge backwards.
The man in front of me whom I don't even look at drops his things and rush up to me. Blowing my breath down my dress to try and relieve myself from the heat and moving my wands in a weird fashion to try and calm myself down.
"I am so sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you or pour my hot coffee on you." The man said as I was still in panic mode. "We need to get some cold water on you."
Not paying attention again I don't hear him go into his apartment which coincidently is directly across from mine and grab something. Then I feel myself become completely drenched. Looking up at the man anger rages through me as I contain myself with a fake smile. This guy had just taken a full water bottle and dumped it down the top of my dress.
"Better?" he asks with a look of regret written all over his face.
"Much...who are you?"
"Oh sorry, I'm George I just moved in yesterday and now today I give my neighbor first degree burn..." George states as he lowers his glasses for just a second so he can look me in the eye and then quickly pulls them back to his eyes. "I really am very sorry...do you need help or anything?"
"No offense but I really think you have done enough, I'm just gonna go now. Nice to meet you." I tell him as I unlock my apartment and walk back inside shutting the door behind me so I'm not tempted to attack George. "This is so not my day."
Looking down at my once light red dress I see the coffee stain. Sighing I make my way to the bathroom and remove the dress and text my boss letting her know that I am "sick" today and that I won't be able to make it into work. Lucky for me, my boss was in fact my older sister Jasmine. Looking at my chest to make sure the burn wasn't bad or that I need to go to the hospital I was happy to find it wasn't bad at all. Still I made and ice pack and decided to stay in my bath robe for the rest of the day...until there was a knock at my door.
Groaning I made my way to the door and covered myself as I looked in the peep hole. There stood George...great, this was all that I needed. Rolling my eyes and keeping my robe closed tightly I opened the door.
"Please Miss I feel so bad for dumping my coffee on your dress would you please let me take it to the cleaners to be cleaned?" George offered with a sad look on his face.
"Oh you don't need to do that...it was an old dress anyway." I shrug trying to let him down nicely.
"I could see the price tag when you went into your apartment on the back of the dress." George said as he pushed his glasses up to the bridge of his nose.
Dang it, I hated it when I was caught in a lie. Especially when I was caught in a lie by someone I didn't even know. Sighing I hold up my index finger letting him know I would be right back. Running to my bathroom I pick up the dress then run back to see George leaning against the doorway patiently waiting for me to return.
"Here, but really I don't think this is needed." I tell him as I show him the dress.
"I believe it is, what's your name so I can have it written on the tag when they need to deliver it?" he questions as he takes the dress from my hands.
"Laura. Laura Higgens." I reply which earns a smile from George. "Thank you George I do appreciate it."
Nodding George walked away from my door and out of our building. With a chuckle I walk back inside to my apartment.
