Chapter 20

Two pairs of blue eyes eyed each other, and a pair of green.

"Hope you girls know what you're getting into!" Thyra teases, displaying her staff. Her gaze swaps from one to the other.

"Oh, trust me, you won't find this easy!" Heather taunts back, extending her double-headed axe.

"Like you will?" Astrid responds, adjusting her grip on her axe. "Don't think she's gonna get all the attention, Heather. You're going down!"

"Alright, alright. Less talk, more fight!" Thyra interjects before more can be said, charging forward.

Astrid lets out a battle cry, and her axe swings towards Thyra, who dodges out of the way and slams it to the side with her Staff. She turns and blocks a blow from Heather's axe, pushing the girl back, who charged for her again.

Astrid dodges a kick to the side, somersaulting away.

"Fancy." Heather laughs, her axe pushing Astrid back.

"Oh, plenty more where that came from!" Astrid replies, cunningly sticking out a foot that trips up Heather on her route to Thyra.

Thyra takes full advantage of this, using the hook to push the already off balanced girl to the ground. She laughs, shaking her head in pity down at Heather, who was glaring at her determinedly.

Thyra feels a tingle through the air, and tuck and rolls out of the way, just missing the blunt end of Astrid's axe.

"Oh, you're gonna get it blondie!" Thyra exclaims, recovering a few meters away. Heather had taken this time to get back up, sending a punch at Astrid's shoulder, which was dodged and countered with an axe handle to the stomach.

Thyra charges back, faking a staff swing, but instead opting to slide on the ground and into Astrid's feet, causing her to fall over. Astrid blocks a blow from the staff with her axe, kicking Thyra away from her, and grabs Heather's ankle, dragging her down.

Thyra takes the opportunity to swing a fist at Heather, and it hits her stomach, which causes her to drop the double-headed axe. Thyra grabs it, and points it at Heather's neck, kicking Astrid away at the same time.

"This thing's cool." Thyra admits, examining the weapon. "Deadly weapon, light, durable..." she edges it closer to the girls neck. "Sharp."

Astrid charges towards her, dodging past the staff in Thyra's other hand, aiming to tackle her to the ground, but at the last second Thyra ducks and grabs Astrid midair, pushing her down and over her, and she lands next to Heather with a thud.

"So...I think I have you beat, eh?" Thyra grins at them, staff pointed at Astrid, and Axe pointed at Heather. Astrid makes one last-ditch attempt to slam the axe at Thyra, but she easily hits it away with her staff.

"...Or are we just going to keep going?" Thyra adds, dodging a kick from Heather.

"Nope...you win this one." Astrid replies, standing up. Thyra smirks proudly.

"As I thought I would. You both put up a good fight though!" She exclaims, offering a hand to help Heather up.

"Yeah, yeah. We'll get you next time. Well, I will. Astrid will be at my feet." Heather replies, taking her axe back.

"In your dreams, Heather." Astrid replies in an amused tone, picking up her axe.

Wingbeats could be heard above them, in the training arena. They looked up simultaneously. As a massive pile of mud came down on them.

"...Are you kidding me?!" Heather shouts.

"This is the third time this month! They're not getting away with it this time!" Astrid growls under her breath, watching the twins land their dragon, laughing obnoxiously.

Thyra wipes some mud off her face and flings it on the ground. "At least they say mud is good for the skin. Can't say what I'm about to do to them is..." she watches the twins fall off their saddles, too overcome with laughter to stay on.

"Say, how much torture is legal here?" She adds with a deadly glare, picking up her staff from where she's dropped it.

They heard more wingbeats as another dragon flew over, carrying a massive tub of, something. "Snotlout, Snotlout oi oi oi!" Could be heard coming from the Nightmares saddle.

The Three girls could only watch as the Nightmare dumped the tub on them, and they were soaked with weird smelling water.

Thyra freezes. "...Please, not again." Her eyes are squeezed shut, but the smell is unmistakable. She breathes through her nose. "Again...they did it again..." she opens her eyes, seeing Heather cringing at the smell, and Astrid stood frozen, obviously hoping to the gods it's not what it unfortunately, obviously, is.

Snotlout can be heard laughing up ahead, until his dragon bucks him off, and he lands with a thud on the ground a few steps in front of the girls.

He pushes himself up, and, with a smug grin, walks towards the girls.

"Now, which one of you wants to date me first?"

"What did you just say?" Thyra asks eerily calm. Astrid cracks her knuckles.

"Why don't you speak a little clearer, Snotlout. We can't hear you over your upcoming screams." Astrid threats.

"Ladies, I just saved you from needing a bath, I knew the twins were going to do that, so I grabbed a big tub full of water that Tuffnut left laying around."

"A bath? You thought you were doing us a favour?!" Heather asks.

"Wait, you knew they were going to do it?! And you just went along?!" Astrid adds.

"This isn't water, Snotlout. Which makes your punishment OH so much worse!" Thyra growls.

"What's that smell?" Is all Snotlout says.

"Which one? The smell of your blood?" Thyra asks.

"Or the smell of dragon piss?" Heather adds.

"It isn't dragon piss! It's ours!" Came the yell from the twins

"Oh, that is it!" Thyra yells. "I tried letting it go, avoiding you, ignoring you. But you're both about to regret every decision you've ever made!" Thyra yells.

"What makes you think we're easy targets?!" Astrid shouts. "Fury just makes us fight more brutally!" She swings her axe from hand to hand.

Thyra, Heather and Astrid walk right up to Snotlout, pointing their weapons at him.

"I think he needs a suitable punishment." Is all Thyra says, before Astrid punches Snotlout in the stomach, Heather shoves him over onto the ground, and Thyra rings out her tunic onto his face, before delivering a blow to the ribs.

"Hookfang! Hookfang! Save me you useless dragon!"

Thyra grabs him by the head and slams him into the ground. "Now, that's no way to speak to your dragon. No wonder he's not loyal to you!" She exclaims.

"Never has been, never will." Astrid adds, dropping her axe handle onto Snotlout's stomach.

"He's as loyal to me as much as you'll marry me!" Is all Snotlout says, trying to get out of this predicament.

"So...never?" Astrid answers with a grin, and Thyra laughs.

"No ones gonna marry him after we're finished." She says, cracking her neck. "He'll be unrecognisable."

"Think there's a way we can make it look like an accident?!" Heather adds with a grin.

"Pretty sure there's a way, but you're the chief's sister, he'll believe if you say he was threatening our well being." Thyra answers

"No one will ever notice he's gone, if we replace him with Gustav!" Heather shrugs.

"That runt? Please, he'll never be like me!"

"Oh, so you mean he'll be smart, brave, and good looking? Talk about an upgrade!" Thyra replies.

"Don't you remember what 'runts' can do?" Astrid adds. "Tame a Night Fury. Defeat a mountain sized dragon. Save the archipelago..."

"Yeah, and knock you out with one swing!" Heather adds. "And let's not even talk about Dusty, it's kind of obvious what he can do."

"Still think a runt's not better than you?" Thyra asks.

She was interrupted by wingbeats above them, and a familiar voice, "Thyra! You need to...what's going on here?" Came the voice of Hiccup on Toothless

"Oh, your oh-so-loyal riders just dumped mud on us." Thyra replies.

"Yeah. And to top it off? Thorstan pee." Heather adds.

"Not to mention Snotlout's behaviour. We don't really...need...him do we?" Astrid asks. "I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to join us. Gustav, Spitelout, Gothi even! It could be useful having a travelling healer!"

"Sadly, we do need him, and Thyra, you might want to get yourself quickly cleaned up." Hiccup answered

"I plan on that already, don't you worry. But why? Another interview from 'his majesty' Dagur?" Thyra asks, landing one more blow to Snotlout's stomach for good measure.

"Actually no, Dusty's waking up."

Thyra's look hardens. "I'll be there in five minutes. If he wakes up before I get there, tell him I'll be there quickly." She says, before running off towards the stream Astrid had shown her to the last time this happened.

She was as quick as she possibly could be, and as she ran back towards the village minutes later, she knew she could have gone straight to the hut, but figured the piss would not be a welcoming sight or smell. She met up with Pulse along the way, and they flew right towards the hut.

They landed outside and Thyra dismounted, running inside with Pulse following at her heel.

Gothi was taking the last of Dusty s bandages off, showing all of his cuts and burns were healed, except for the three scars on his face, that looks like he was clawed, They started above his right eye, and went down to his chin, missing his eye.

Thyra was at his side in seconds, seeing him move around slightly in his sleep, or unconsciousness.

"He's been like this for the last half-hour, I decided to get you since you two are together." Hiccup said from his place by the door.

Thyra nods, only half listening because her full attention was on Dusty. "C'mon, Dusty, wake up now..." she mutters, pushing hair out of his face.

"Thyra, how is he?" Came the voice of Astrid, as she walked in.

"...He should be coming to, soon." Thyra replies, taking a seat by his side. "I hope he'll just hurry up with it, I hate waiting."

As if Dusty heard her, he let out a small cough.

Thyra studied him carefully, looking for any more signs of him waking up.

Dusty let out another cough, and his eyes slowly opened.

Thyra grinned widely. "Dusty! Hey!" She said softly, not wanting to shout in his face when he's only just waking up. She squeezes his hand. "I'm here."

It took Dusty a second to recognize who was holding him, and he tightened his grip on Thyra's hand, "Thyra?"

"It's me!" She exhaled in relief. "You're safe, and you're alive! But, in all seriousness, please never do that to me again."

Dusty wrapped his arms around her, and buried his head on her shoulder, "I'm sorry, I couldn't fight them, I..." He trailed off.

"Are you kidding?" She holds him tightly, "just the fact that you pulled through all of what they did is enough! They got what was coming to them, by the way."

"Leave any for me?" He asked jokingly

"Not this time, but trust me, we can find more!" Thyra laughs.

"Thanks, I need to let off some steam." He looks behind her and a small frown crosses his face. "Why are we in the village?"

"They helped you." Thyra replies. "I didn't want to risk it at first, but they've turned out to stay true to their word. Most of them are still muttonheads, but they sent for help. You might not have been awake right now if it wasn't for them."

"Thank you all, I...I don't know what to say." Dusty says, looking at Hiccup, and lays back down, "I will never know how I got through that."

The door opened and Dagur walked in, "You're finally awake! If we hadn't known better, we'd have thought you were a Berserker how much tornment you went through."

Thyra and Dusty chuckled at that.

"Maybe." Dusty said.

Everyone laughed at that.

"And may I ask why Snotface is crying in the middle of the arena?" Dagur asked

Thyra glances at Astrid. "Oh, just discipline." She replies.

"Well I guess I'll start with the questions, first, how in the name of Thor did Thyra turn into a Night Fury, a Titan Wing Night Fury to be exact?"

Thyra chuckles nervously at that. "Uh...good question." She mumbles, avoiding eye contact.

Dusty looked over at her, "You what?"

"I...I don't know. I was just...so angry. One moment I was human, the next I was a dragon. I don't even remember all of what happened, just how angry I was, and how worried I was for you. I know I ended them all though. I didn't have any control over the shift." Thyra explained.

"Well how did you shift back?" Hiccup asked

"I don't know that either. I was so overcome with emotions, it just happened." Thyra looks down, shrugging. "I shifted back when I thought Dusty..."

"Great, my girlfriend can become a Titan Wing Night Fury, she's gonna be the death of me." Dusty said under his breath.

"Yeah, you better watch out." Thyra teases, punching him.

"Next, how did you make this armor, without taking a dragons skin?" Hiccup asked, holding up Dusty's helmet.

"Are you serious? I thought you were a dragon expert. They shed. A lot."

Hiccup facepalmed, "How did I not see that?"

"Took me a few hours, but I made both sets of armor, and improved our weapons." Dusty told him.

"They work really well." Thyra nods. "We'd probably not be standing here without them."

"Next, I've noticed this, don't know how many of you have, but their eyes slit like a dragons, explain?"

Thyra glances at Dusty. "Should we tell them?" She mumbles.

"They ain't gonna take no bs answer." Dusty answers

"Yeah, I suppose you've gotta point there." Thyra admits, before turning back to the others.

"When we were on the island, where we met our dragons, something... happened." Thyra begins. "It happened at night."

"And?" Astrid asked.

"It was to do with the moon, it was some crazy eclipse."

"The moon was Blood Red, never seen anything like it, and I've been almost everywhere, literally."

"We were fine before we went out, but when we went back in, we could see as if it was day. Like it was pitch black when we woke up, but all of a sudden it was so bright." Thyra added.

Gothi listened with interest, she had written more than six different prophecies about two people merging with two dragons, but all six were different everytime, could these two be the two she dreamed about?

"And that wasn't all, as time went on, we discovered that when we get angry, our eyes slit like dragon's. We've gotten better at controlling it, actually." Thyra finished.

"Ok, wasn't expecting that, now, I would like to chat with Dusty, could all of you go do your thing please?" Hiccup asked.

"Alright, but don't kill each other. I'll be back later, I wanna take Pulse for a flight if she's up for it." The dragon perks up from the corner immediately, and grins excitedly.

"Mind if we join you?" Astrid asked, Heather next to her.

"Sure. If you can keep up!" Thyra grins at them challengly, heading for the door with Pulse in tow.

Pulse sped through the sky, Thyra whooping from her back, with Astrid and Heather on their dragons flying after her.

"Is that the best you've got?" Thyra calls back to them, urging Pulse faster. They speed up and throw in a barrel roll, before diving out of the clouds and skimming the ocean water, spraying it all over Astrid and her Nadder.

"Oh, no you did not!" Astrid yells at her, as Thyra gives a cheeky wave, and they take off towards the forest, laughing.

They fly through the forest expertly, dodging in milliseconds, as Heather and Astrid follow closely. They'd been in the forest many times, and knew their way around better than Thyra, so they took shortcuts to keep up.

"I thought your dragons would be quicker than this!" Thyra shouts at them, Pulse slowing down. "I think we might have to slow down so you can keep up!"

Astrid opened her mouth to shout back, when a bola shot up out of the underbrush and grazzed Stormfly's side.

Thyra glances back, hearing the commotion, just to see Heather's dragon blast another bola before it can hit them.

"Where'd that come from?!" Astrid shouts, checking her dragon over.

Thyra points through the trees, "that way! Let's see who tried to knock us out of the sky!" And they all take off in that direction, locating a clearing quickly.

They land with a thud in front of a group of people, dragons growling.

"That's her on the black one!" Came a voice from the group.

"Shoot her!" Came another.

Pulse growls, dodging an arrow. "Why do you shout your plans?!" Thyra shouts at the people, pulling out her staff to deflect another arrow.

A man, who looked familiar for some reason, shot an arrow at Thrya, which she dodges, but freezes when she hears a thump behind her.

She swings around, to see Heather looking down at the arrow, that embedded itself in her chest. Her hands went up to it, as she fell sideways out of Windshears saddle, and onto the grass below.

Thyra and Astrid move backwards, defending the raven haired girl from any more arrows. "Astrid, take her back to the village before more damage can be done! We'll hold them off!" Thyra exclaims, watching Windshear roar loudly and attack the closest man. Thyra wasn't even sure if the girl was still alive, but figures she owed it to her because she allowed Dusty to be helped.

Astrid blocked an arrow with her axe. "Are you crazy?! Look at them, there's a dozen at least!"

"Well, now there's one less." Thyra replies, pointing to the one Windshear was dealing with. "Just go, already!''

Another thump came below her, and Pulse gave a roar of agony, as an arrow, from the same man that shot Heather, embedded next to her heart.

"PULSE!" Thyra screams, jumping up to look at her dragon. She gave a furious yell, and bounded towards the men, finding herself transformed once again. She roared loudly, and fired a plasma blast at the man, it hit his chest and he fell to the ground, dead. She leaps onto another man and sinks her claws into him, pinning him against the ground and ending him. She vaguely heard the flapping of wings, and made sure to keep the men distracted as Astrid flew away.

She growled at them, backing up so she shielding Pulse from view.

At least six more men fired arrows, aimed at Thyra, as the other five charged her with spears, swords, and axes.

Thyra roared loudly, releasing a plasma blast that basically hit four men at once. She dodged any incoming arrows, and latched onto the closest man. She ripped his arm off, and dogged her claws deep into his throat. She swung her tail at an approaching man, and he hit a tree hard, cracking a rib or two. She left him there for later, and fired a plasma blast at the crowd. It struck a man in the head, killing him instantly.

All she saw was red, keeping herself between Pulse and the men was her only goal. She ducked to the side to dodge a volley of arrows and a bola, spreading her wings and snarling challengingly at the men.

Four men fired more arrows, as a few turn and ran, but the remaining four with weapons, besides the bowmen, closed in on her, weapons swinging.

She ducked away from an axe swing, and batted a man away with her wing. She pounced on the man with the axe and they rolled several meters, before coming to a stop against a tree. She bit his arm as he tried to hit her, and sunk her claws into his stomach. She finishes him off with a beheadment, and ducks out of the way of a sword.

She grabs that man and slings him into the bowman, who was still firing at her, and launches a plasma blast at the last man standing. It hits his arm, basically blowing it off, and he screams in pain, clutching the wound and falling to the ground. She runs towards him to finish off the job, but an arrow flies right in front of her face so she has to change her course in a split second.

She turns to face the last man, and an arrow slams right into her shoulder.

She roars in pain, but ignores the pain, running flat out at the archer and flapping her wings to gain momentum. She slams Into him, causing him to drop his bow, and his head hits harshly against a tree trunk. She roars in his face, using her claw to pin him there. He tries to shove against her weight, but she applies more pressure until he's choking.

She growls lowly. "I want to make you suffer." She hisses, not that he would understand, and whips her tail at his face, it strikes his head and he slumps, unconscious. She glances at the man with the cracked ribs, and bounds towards him too.

"Mercy! Mercy! Please Mercy!" Is all he yells.

She snarls in his face, digging her claws so deep into his arms that he falls unconscious.

She felt a tingle in the air, and turned right in time to see the final man rushing at Pulse with an axe.

She shrieks loudly, and launches a plasma blast. It knocks the axe right out of his hands, but she isn't finished. She fires at his feet so he falls over, and is on top of him in seconds, digging her claws into his back as he whimpers and begs for forgiveness. She pins him right down into the dirt, and fires at the back of his head. He stops struggling. Dead.

Thyra pants as she hops off, keeping a close eye on both her prisoners as she rushes over to Pulse.

"Pulse..." she mumbles, nudging her head against hers. "Please, be okay."

The dragon only lets out a small whine in response, breathing deeply but in pain.

Wingbeats come above them, as all of the riders come in to land, everyone except Astrid and Heather.

Thyra looked up at them, nudging her head towards her two prisoners, before looking at Pulse and nudging her again, trying to wake her.

"Thyra..." is all Pulse says.

"I'm right here, you'll be fine. Just stay awake for me." Thyra urged her.

"Hey, you want to know something?"  She asks.

"Sure, anything." Thyra chortles a laugh.

"I've been talking with Toothless a lot, and I think I'm starting to like the guy."

Thyra looked at her. "Wow, I've been wondering where you've been disappearing to. Who knows, maybe you'll have cute Night Fury babies?! If you do, I want to name one!"

"You can say the same for Dark, he's head over tails for Volt."

"They were curled up together the other day!" Thyra croons in amusement.

"Yeah, Darks thinking about asking her out on a midnight flight." She lays her head agains Thyra

"Are you kidding?! We SO have to spy on them!" Thyra exclaims.

"Why I'm asking you now, but I feel light headed."

Fishlegs runs up with the medic bag, and gently pulls the arrow out.

"Well you stay awake, alright? I'm not having you slip away. I know Toothless wouldn't like that." Thyra presses her head against Pulse's, keeping out of Fishlegs' way.

"I feel better now that it's out, let's just get home."

"Home sounds perfect, but don't rush to move." Thyra warbles, glancing at Fishlegs, who was smearing a paste over the wound.

"Uhh, I'm just ready to eat, could this guy hurry up?"

Thyra found herself laughing, in a dragon-y way. "He's just making sure you don't die on the way back." She snorts.

"Well go ahead and shift back, cause one way or another, I'm flying home."

"Firstly, you're not flying anywhere. Secondly, I don't know how. Oh, and this might be a problem..." Thyra glances at the arrow on her shoulder.

"You had to get shot didn't you?"

"I could be saying the same to you." Thyra replies.

"Whatever, just try to shift back, imagine yourself as a human or something like that, I don't know."

"That's the best shot we've got." Thyra shrugs. She closes her eyes and pictures her human self in detail, and when she opens her eyes again she's crouched on the ground as a human. She reaches up and yanks the arrow out of her shoulder, hissing in pain, before throwing it away.

"They love their arrows." She grumbles, rolling her shoulders.

"Apparently so." Hiccup says behind her, "You want to ride back on Toothless? Hookfang is going to have to carry her back."

"I'm good with that, Thanks. Well, as long as Pulse doesn't fly." She glares at the dragon on the last two words, who rolls her eyes, but huffs in defeat.

"Don't forget these guys!" She exclaims, picking one of the prisoners up by the collar. "I have a feeling they're going to be asked a lot of questions."

"Geez, how mad did you get?" Dagur asked, looking at one of the mutilated bodies.

"Well, they shot my dragon. Oh, how's Heather by the way?" Thyra replies, dropping the unconscious man carelessly, which Dagur grabs.

"She'll live, the arrow hit one of her ribs, an inch to the left or right, she would have died." Fishlegs answers.

Thyra winces. "That was close. And she's not gonna be painless, when the adrenaline wears off. Ready to head back? This place stinks." She grabs one prisoner, and Dagur grabs the other.

"Waiting on you." Hiccup says, mounting Toothless.

Thyra nods and climbs on behind him. "Behave, they're trying to help!" She warns Pulse, who was dodging Snotlout and Hookfang. The dragon mocks her, but complys.

Toothless takes off, and they head back toward the village.
