Chapter Four
A/N: Okay, you know how I said that I was going to put memes for the chapter picture? Well I'm going to put art too (it's not my art. I found it on Pinterest). But this art had my heart broken, and it was so sad 😞.
Y/N's POV
August 1776, Albany, New York
~2 weeks later~
The Schuyler Mansion was huge! Each of the eight siblings had their own room, and they had a few guest bedrooms as well.
Philip and Catherine Schuyler said it was alright that I stayed until I could find a house and be able to provide for myself.
It was now about 10:00 at night, and the sky was now a deep purplish color. The guest room that I stayed in had a balcony, so if I wanted, I could easily exit the house from there. But I would have to be careful.
Surrounding the mansion were thick woods, so I had a pretty easy source of food. I can eat human food, but it sometimes doesn't agree with my stomach. Tonight, we had stew. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I soon became sick and went straight to the restroom.
Afterwards, I went to my room. My stomach was growling now, and I could feel the temptation to hunt grow stronger as I stood on the balcony, my hands resting on the railings. I could sense everyone in the house too, and I could hear the blood flow through their veins.
My thoughts were soon interrupted by a knock at the door. "Come in." I said lightly, turning a bit to glance at the door.
Eliza stepped into my room slowly before asking, "Aren't you supposed to be laying down?" I smiled a bit.
"I would, but I get easily restless." I said with a chuckle.
Eliza made her way towards the balcony and stood next to me. "If Mama came in here instead of me, you best believe that she would put restraints on you so that you couldn't get up." She giggled, looking out at the forests.
I smiled at her before turning my gaze back towards the forest. I could see the fireflies flashing about, and the crickets joining in with their music.
"What do you plan on doing tomorrow?" Eliza asked, disrupting the nature's music. I shrugged.
"I'm not sure, why?" I asked, looking at her. She flashed me a mischievous grin in the moonlight before turning to me.
"Oh, no reason. It's just that my sisters and I are heading to New York City again, so if you want, you can come." She said before adding in a relaxed, yet mischievous tone, "And who knows, maybe Mr. Freckles will be in town."
I laughed at her, "Oh please. I don't have a crush on him. I think you guys are just imagining a spark between us. And like I said a few weeks ago, I haven't even had a conversation with him."
"Exactly! So, we find him tomorrow and you guys can talk!" Eliza said excitedly, jumping a bit. She then took my hands into hers and looked me in the eye. "Please will you come to town with us? Who knows, you guys might hit it off~" she said the last part in a sing song voice.
I sighed, "I'll think about it." And with that answer and Eliza let out a small squeal of joy. She then began to head out of the room.
"Wait!" I called after her. She turned around, an excited but questioning look on her face.
"Is it okay for me to go for a walk?" I asked coolly, trying to not sound suspicious.
Eliza nodded, "Just make sure Mama doesn't catch you. Otherwise you'll be hearing it from her." She said with a light chuckle.
I smiled, "Okay, thank you. I'll make sure to make the walk quick." I then grabbed my shawl and followed Eliza out of my room.
"Goodnight. See you in the morning!" Eliza called quietly, not wanting to wake her family.
"Good night! Ill be back in a bit." I said, making my way down the stairs and outside.
It was a nice night out. The bugs weren't bad, and the warmth of the day still lingered in the air. The fireflies continued to dance around to the song the crickets chirped.
I looked back at the house, just to make sure no one was watching or following me, and then I headed into the woods. It was dark, but my eyes adjusted to it really quickly, and my senses heightened a bit more.
'All I have to do is find an animal, then I should be good for a few days.' I thought quietly.
WARNING!!! DEATH!!! If you don't want to read this part, I'll tell you when you can stop skipping.
I heard faint rustling in the distance, and my senses immediately focusing on that noise. I felt my teeth beginning to grow a bit longer, but I willed myself to calm down.
I crept through the woods, my feet making little to no noise as I tried to find what I was looking for.
Then I could hear it. The blood rushing through its veins, the beat of the heart, even the animal breathing.
I walked for a few more minutes until I spotted the animal.
It was a doe, and it looked healthy. The strong beat of the heart roared in my ears, making my will to feed stronger. I watched the doe for a few minutes before making my move.
I pounced on the doe quickly. It let out a startled bleat as I pushed it to the ground, it's neck exposed to me. I opened my mouth, my fangs at full length as I looked down and into the eyes of the doe.
"I'm sorry." I mumbled before lunging at its neck, my fangs sinking deep until I hit the vein in its neck. It let out a pain filled bleat, and I felt a twinge of regret course through me as I fed off of the doe.
It took me about five more minutes until the doe finally died and I was done eating. I regret killing the doe, but it was better for me to feed off of an animal rather than a human, otherwise I would risk exposing myself to the humans.
I let out a small sigh. The blood was refilling, and now I should be good for a few more weeks. I fed only once before when I got here, but it was on a smaller mammal. It felt good to drink from a bigger animal, even if the blood was a bit on the bitter side.
You can stop skipping now.
I looked back down at the doe. I could feel my fangs retracted as I stared at the lifeless body. I then stood up. I would have to hide the body, just in case anyone were to come around in the middle of the woods.
I swiftly picked up the limp body, being thankful for the additional strength I have. I looked around, not sure where to put the body.
I could stuff it into some bushes nearby, that would be the easiest option, 'But would it be the safest?' I thought to myself before sighing.
I dragged the lifeless body towards the dense growth of bushes. Hopefully some predators will be able to eat the meat before someone finds it. I stuffed the doe into the bushes, making sure that it was covered up before hurrying away.
I briskly walked towards the mansion. Hopefully no one was awake, otherwise I would have to explain myself to them.
There was a pond on the way back, so I quickly looked at my reflection, so I could make sure I didn't have any blood on my face. I checked my canines as well, just to make sure they retracted back into my gum and had no blood on them.
There was a little of blood on my face, so I quickly washed it off.
I then proceeded to the mansion, my senses alert as I walked towards the back of the mansion, where I could sneak through the door that entered into the kitchen.
As I walked up towards the door, I thought I heard noise coming from inside. I shook it off, I was probably being paranoid.
But my senses never have done me wrong.
I opened the door slowly and made my way inside. I almost made my way to the stairs when I heard a voice whisper.
"Where were you?"
It was Peggy.
I turned towards the voice, glad that I could make out mostly everything near the stairwell. "I went on a walk." I whispered towards her voice. I could see her perfectly fine, but I needed to make sure suspected nothing, so I was looking towards her left.
"For two hours?" She asked, making her way towards me. 'I've been gone for two hours?' I thought.
"I guess I wasn't paying attention." I said with a soft chuckle before making my way up the stairs. I could feel Peggy's questioning glare burning into my back.
She didn't ask me any questions after the confrontation, so I went to my room. I then got dressed into a light orange nightgown. I glanced at myself in the mirror and slowly pulled my nightgown down, so my shoulder was exposed.
There were two puncture holes, but they were scared over. I don't remember getting bit at all, but I remember not feeling good days after. I pulled my nightgown back over my shoulder and headed towards the bed to lay down.
I made myself comfortable under the comforters and looked out towards the balcony. I could still hear the rhythm of the crickets outside.
I slowly brought my hand over my chest, resting it where my heart lay empty. I tried to remember how it used to beat before, before I was bitten in England.
I tried to remember how it used to feel to be alive.

Okay, this might be last chapter for today 😂. But hey! Maybe the chapter will be in John's perspective (or maybe Alex's, who knows 🤷🏼♀️)
Also, I was thinking about making an Art Book, where I could post my art. Right now I'm making a drawing for First Burn, and it features Angelica and John.
