Both Mark and Donghyuck turned their heads around, still lining up at the registration. The culprits were standing there with one having a lollipop in his mouth and the other drinking cold coffee. The Chinese transfer student that was standing in the middle, between the two masterminds, had his lips curved up to a guilty smile.
"That was quite a show." Jeno teased, playing with the lollipop inside his mouth. "I wonder how you two will act it out."
Jaemin raised both his hands up as if he was caught red handed. "It's all Jeno's plan!"
"But you didn't stop him?" Donghyuck argued.
"Well... I liked the idea." Jaemin innocently drank his coffee as if he didn't do anything wrong.
The Chinese that was with the three heaved out a sigh nudging the both of them and was the only one apologetic for the two's scheme. "I'm sorry about them. They've been arguing ever since the first match ended. The only time they got along was when they planned to register you two to this booth."
And to prove his point, both Jaemin and Jeno glanced at each other and chuckled at the situation. They looked like they've been friends since diapers, as if they weren't trying to strangle one another just hours before this happened.
"Renjun is the only one who has conscience between you three." Mark stated, his glare boring holes through his friend's soul.
Jeno had to immediately walk to him and throw an arm over his shoulder. "Don't act like you don't like the idea. For all I know, you're probably thanking the heavens above." Clasping his hands together, he lowered his head down. "Amen."
Mark harshly elbowed his friend's stomach, making the latter stumble back with a groan.
Jaemin laughed at their interaction, but he wasn't excluded from the nag that he'll get from a certain sunkissed male that's fuming at him. He gulped down the coffee before defending himself. "Hey, I'm doing you a favor here."
"Favor?" Donghyuck scoffed, slapping the soccer player's arm. "Favor my ass!"
"Stop... Stop!" Jaemin whined at the hits he got, but did his best to protect the coffee he had in hand. "Hey, you also set Chenle up!"
"That's because Chenle likes Jisung, you dipshit!" Arguing, Donghyuck didn't stop hitting his friend. Of course, he hit him lightly so as not to hurt him. He might be upset, but he still cared for his friend.
"And don't you like Mark?" Jaemin remarked, the hits stopping the moment he asked that.
It caught the attention of everyone in their circle, especially Mark. He stopped arguing with Jeno and now had his eyes on Donghyuck who stayed still in his place. Mark didn't know why he was waiting for an answer and wanted to hear him say it. Even if they were on good terms lately, they still have unresolved conflicts about their marriage. The two of them were just caught up living as high-school students to even think about it.
"What are you guys doing?" Jisung arrived at their circle.
Alongside Chenle whose hand he is holding. "Donghyuck, your classmates are looking for you."
Not answering Jaemin's question, Donghyuck grabbed Mark with him and walked away from them. They didn't exchange any last words, seemingly upset, causing for their friends that were left behind curious at what's going on. Both Jaemin and Jeno actually thought this was just a harmless joke, that's why they agreed to it in the first place. Of course, it's also because they don't have any idea what the two went through together.
They don't know how marriage is a sensitive topic for both Mark and Donghyuck.
Breaking the ice, Jisung could tell that things got awkward after it. "By the way, Jaemin, congrats to your team for winning the first match."
But Chenle became serious all of a sudden. "Alright, who set them up?"
Both Jaemin and Jeno took a step back, now denying that they were involved in setting up Mark, who still had rumors around about liking someone from another class, and Donghyuck, who just recently broke up with his ex-boyfriend.
Renjun was quick to hold both their wrists and raised up their arms, forcing them to admit. "These two."
Jisung gasped in awe, commenting about the situation. "Dumb and dumber together."
Meanwhile, the organizers were busy preparing for the next ceremony. Mark and Donghyuck were also listening on what to do, following the instructions for the sake of entertainment. It was their school's event, even if they were against doing this, they didn't want to kill everyone's joy especially when the booth was now getting more attention.
Upon giving the props to the two, the organizers left them for a moment to fix the altar and aisle. It gave them time to talk.
"Donghyuck, we can ask this to be stopped. I'm pretty sure there are still a lot of pairs in the list." Mark said, noticing how uncomfortable his partner is.
Shaking his head, Donghyuck fixed the bouquet he's holding. "It's okay. Let's just get it over with."
Mark was still bothered by how the latter didn't answer his friend's question a while ago, but he's more concerned at how the male's mood changed from having fun to looking like he's going through torture. "Love."
Looking up frantically, Donghyuck scanned the area out of concern because his partner called him that in a public place. He then heaved out a sigh of relief before turning to the male beside him, tilting his head to the side in a questioning manner.
"Did you ever regret getting married to me" Mark asked.
Donghyuck wasn't able to answer when one of his classmates came to them and guided them to their positions. He was pulled away from Mark who was settled by the altar, while he was dragged at the end of the aisle. Donghyuck couldn't seem to think straight now that he had that specific question inside his head. Just a while ago he was confident enough to get this over with just one blink, but now he can't even get his body to move after getting the signal that he needed to start walking.
He only had his eyes on Mark who's standing there with a small smile on his face.
All of a sudden, a picture of their wedding came to view.
His friends, alongside his partner's circle, in one section being a crying mess. Their families and relatives being seated on their designated seats, looking at them being proud and sentimental.
And there he is, his groom and the man that he's been dying to marry and spend a life with; Mark Lee.
Donghyuck began to take slow strides down the aisle, gripping the bouquet tightly. The worry frown on his face turned to a smile full of content. He only had his loving gaze settled on his groom. Mark was the only one he could see in this crowded place. There was no doubt, Mark is the only one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.
"They're the pair? I thought Mark liked Ko Eun."
"Donghyuck? Didn't he just break up with Lucas?"
"Hey, could it be that Donghyuck cheated?"
The whispers and gossip were pushed aside. Donghyuck didn't care whatever they would say to him. He didn't care if they'd spread around untrue rumors about him. What was important to him at that special moment was walking down the aisle and towards his groom that's waiting for him.
"You still look great as ever, Sunshine." Mark complimented, having his breath taken away by just watching his partner.
Arriving at the altar, Donghyuck also gave him a flattering remark. "You as well, Love."
The host that's standing in the middle had a lot of questions in mind the moment he heard the two calling each other with the most loving names. Not to mention, they looked like they were sucked to their roles in being a groom. The way they stared at each other with longing gazes felt too real not just for the host, but also for everyone that's watching the ceremony unfold.
It's as if these two were once a married couple.
Clearing his throat, he began to read his script. "We are all here to get involved in a loving commemoration between the grooms; Lee Donghyuck and Mark Lee."
Everything felt so nostalgic for the both of them. As the ceremony went on and the host had his share of the script, love was speaking in both Donghyuck's and Mark's eyes. They both went through their memory lane from getting to know each other to finally tying the knot between them.
"Do you, Mark Lee—"
And just like the pair from before, the host was cut off once again from his script. Mark politely raised his hand to stop him from saving the vows for him.
Mark wanted to say something, "Donghyuck."
The said male let out a soft chuckle, very much smitten at his groom. "What is it?"
"I never say this much, but I'm forever grateful to have you as mine." Mark began, not caring if he was saying this in front of a crowd. "My best friend, my soulmate, and my lover. You are my everything, Love."
A smile made its way to Donghyuck's lips, finding that vow quite similar to the first time he had heard it.
"From how you laugh at my lame jokes, to reminding me how much I mean to you. Donghyuck, I love that about you. I love the way you cook me breakfast, the way you get bored and do pranks, the way you get mad at me whenever I do something stupid, and the way you comfort me whenever I'm down." Mark told him, listing everything he is grateful for. "I love you, Donghyuck. I'm in love with everything about you."
And Donghyuck felt equally the same.
"I promise to stay in love with everything about you." And Mark promised not to break it this time around. He will remain patient and practice to keep his temper down. He will be the better version in this second chance. "Do you take me as your husband? For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part."
"In every obstacle, Mark Lee, I do." Donghyuck answered.
"Uhh..." The host stared at the two back and forth, not knowing what to do as they already took his line. "Okay... Mark Lee."
Donghyuck got a glare coming from the host, warning him if he cuts him off again. A laugh came out of his mouth when he saw his classmate getting frustrated. Donghyuck then motioned his hand to let him continue.
"Mark Lee," Once more, he gave the other groom a look before continuing the next minute. "Do you take Lee Donghyuck as your wedded husband?"
The said groom opened his mouth but wasn't able to answer as Donghyuck cut him off. "Can I say my line?"
Mark nodded his head with a laugh. "Go ahead, Sunshine."
Meanwhile, in the crowd, their friends were getting emotional at the two without knowing why. Jisung sat next to Chenle who's giving him tissues to use every time he cries. That also goes for Jaemin and Jeno who's comforting Renjun that's sobbing at the ceremony.
"How are they so good at this?" Jaemin questioned, patting the Chinese's back to calm him down.
"You ask me." Jeno handed another box of tissues to Chenle in front of them as Jisung already emptied one. "Do they know each other before? They sound like they've known each other for ages now."
"Beats me. Lucas is the only one I know that Donghyuck is tied with." Jaemin shrugged his shoulders. "Aside from that, it's just academics and soccer."
"Mark too, with council." Jeno looked back at the couple by the altar. "He literally just woke up one time and called Donghyuck's name."
With them wondering, the grooms by the altar cared nothing else other than each other's presence. They were immersed in the moment they're having to notice anyone else.
"I may nag a lot, and joke around sometimes." Donghyuck began.
But Mark felt the need to correct that. "Joke around a lot."
"Hey, that's at least... Once a week." A soft laugh was heard from Donghyuck. "You also had to deal with my emotional side. I would cry a bucket by just watching a movie, I would have my mood ruined after playing a game, and I always sulk to a high extent whenever you don't give me attention."
Those memories made Mark show a bitter smile. The latter's unstable emotion is such a rollercoaster ride for him. He wouldn't say it was easy for him to handle, but he also wouldn't say he's tired of understanding him. Mark would rather get to know all of the emotions that Donghyuck could give rather than starting anew with someone else.
"But you're the only one who knows how to deal with that side of me. Crying over a movie? You fake a cry next to me. Upset over a game? You buy me chips and ice cream to calm down. And whenever I sulk, you always find time to be with me to make it up for me." Donghyuck lowered his head at the memories, getting sentimental over it. "You do all those without asking how to do it. You just know how to."
Because if Mark wanted to, he would.
"With all the imperfections," Donghyuck's voice cracked from the urge to sob. "Do you still want to stay and have me as your husband?"
"It's everything about you that makes me want to stay, Donghyuck, for the rest of my life." Mark told him, using his index finger to lift up his partner's chin and make him look up to him. "I do."
"Uhh, guys..." The host wanted to point out how real the whole thing has become. Most of the people that were seated were crying and already sobbing at their vows. However, a classmate of his made a hand gesture to remind him not to ruin the moment. He had no choice but to go with the flow. "Umm... You may now kiss the groom, I guess?"
And despite that they were aware in what situation they're in and in what timeline they are, Mark leaned down to close the gap between them. Donghyuck closed his eyes and wholeheartedly gave his consent for them to kiss, moving along slowly with Mark's lips.
They have a long explanation to give to their friends.
