ꫂ twenty four
It was the time of the school year where almost all (if not everyone) students were looking forward to. The Sports Fest. Aside from the events prepared, students were excited to wear whatever they wanted to wear. It probably is a universal feeling for every student to finally get out of their uniform and be comfortable with the clothes they'll be mixing and matching. They were happily getting inside the campus with smiles on their faces. Some were taking pictures here and there, some in their sports attire for games that would be starting first thing in the morning, and some were in their pajamas looking like they'd go back to bed, taking advantage that there were no limits as to what to wear.
Even if there were no classes, they were still required to attend the event for attendance.
Getting out of the office, Mark held the list that their principal gave him to check up on the booths and games that will be scheduled today. Other than that, he was told to loosen up and enjoy the event. He'll only be needed in the council if there's a conflict, which he hoped there's none.
"At least I'm distracted." Mark convinced himself. Because there was a lot to do for this week, he could only push his problems aside.
Anyway, he felt satisfied seeing the campus being lively and students having fun. It felt like his efforts of helping in putting up this event didn't go to waste.
"Jeno—"
"Sorry, Mark, soccer!"
"Jisung!"
"Mark, I'm having practice."
And just when Mark finally got to breathe from being busy with the council, both his friends just had to be occupied. Jeno would have his first game before lunch, and Jisung is at the studio with his dance troupe, practicing for their competition during the closing of the event. Mark did promise Jeno that he would watch his game. By now, he's just roaming around and watched the success of the event on the first day.
He would get to talk to some students here and there, especially his classmates, but other than that he didn't have any company to go around and just watch the games.
Wait... but didn't he exclude Donghyuck from soccer?
"Boo!"
Jumping from his place, Mark placed a hand on his chest to calm his heartbeat down. "Ko Eun! Stop scaring me like that!"
The girl that he had called out was a laughing mess, almost stumbling down from laughing. "You should've seen your face!"
"Whatever." Mark clicked his tongue and gave her a judgemental expression. "By the way, what's with the... get up?"
With that being mentioned, Ko Eun groaned in frustration. "I'm the mascot of our team in basketball."
"That's," Mark bit his lower lip to prevent himself from bursting out of laughter. "Cute."
"Shut it, Mark Lee!" Ko Eun got flustered, making her look away. Not minutes after, she then got back to her senses and remembered why he approached him in the first place. "By the way, I'm headed to the gym. The first game is going to start soon, wanna come with me?"
This was what Mark needed, some company.
Just as he was about to tag along, a certain someone appeared by the end of the hallway, catching Mark's attention and making him change his mind in joining her. "I'm sorry, I'm quite busy."
Ko Eun didn't get the chance to speak when Mark had already excused himself to leave. Her eyes followed as to where he is off to and seeing Donghyuck was more than enough reason as to what Mark is busy about. She heaved out a sigh and decided not to force herself in the picture between the two. She then began to leave also, not noticing the transfer student from her class trailing from behind in hopes that she would ask him out to watch the game.
As for Mark, he skipped his way towards Donghyuck who looked pissed.
"Hi, Love." That's how he greeted him the moment he stopped in front of the upset male.
"Love?" Donghyuck started, scoffing in disbelief. "I'd love to strangle you to death, Mark Lee."
"Woah," Taking a step back, Mark held out both of his hands across his chest for defense. "That's aggressive. Who buttered your eggroll?"
"You!" Donghyuck whined, "Do you know how much of an advantage it is for me to go back in time? I know who will win this set and next set. I'd probably be the MVP at the end of the event, Mark Lee!"
Pressing his lips to a tight line, Mark rubbed his nape in guilt. "Oh..."
"Oh?!" Giving him a light punch by the arm, Donghyuck began to throw tantrums. "Jaemin told me my name got removed from the list!"
"I did it for your own good!" Mark said, explaining his side of the story. However, it seemed like the younger one didn't want to listen as he began to walk away. Though, that didn't stop Mark from talking to him. He trailed from behind and continued to explain. "Do you remember the injury you had before?"
"It's just a sprain!" Frustratingly stomping his feet, Donghyuck turned towards him. "I can get better from it."
"Well," Quick with his steps, Mark managed to get in front of the male and blocked him from walking away. "I'm worried!"
"But I want to play!" Donghyuck also raised his voice.
"Don't you care what your husband will feel if you get hurt?" Mark faked a pained expression, hitting his chest as if he was having a hard time breathing. "I will also get hurt!"
Sick of his existence, Donghyuck rolled his and pushed him aside so he could continue walking to wherever he was off to. Probably off to soccer and watch how Jaemin and Jeno will compete instead.
But Mark won't leave him alone that easily. "Donghyuck, do you not care about me anymore?"
Donghyuck gagged at how dramatic this guy is.
"I was only protecting you!" Mark gave out all the reasons he had in his head. "I will die, Donghyuck, if you die."
That caused the said male's walking to be put to a halt, flabbergasted at what he had just heard. "Mark, what the actual fuck?"
It seems like he meant it, or Mark is probably just overreacting. "I can't live without you. Who's going to comfort me if I get sad? Who's going to get mad at me if I do something stupid? I won't make out with anyone if it's not with you— Ah!"
The pain that came out from his mouth was because of Donghyuck hitting him on the head. "You're overreacting! A sprain is not that serious, God. Okay, fine! I'm okay with not playing. Just... shut up."
A smile made its way to Mark's lips despite that he was smacked on the head. "I'm actually serious when I said I don't want to make out with—"
"I get it, Mark Lee!" Covering his ears, Donghyuck didn't want to hear anything about it over and over again.
Looking like a happy lion, Mark followed Donghyuck from beside when the latter began to walk again. "Hey, I didn't join any sports. Maybe you want to hangout with me?"
"We're doing that now, aren't we?" By now, Donghyuck is convinced that the older one purposely removed him from the team so that they could spend time together during the whole event.
It was absurd because Donghyuck did want to play.
But his heart also fluttered at the thought of Mark wanting to spend time with him.
Which he wasn't wrong, Mark did want to be with him. "By the way, what booth did your class set up?"
That was another problem that Donghyuck didn't want to deal with since he's also not part of the team that organized their booth. "It's cliché, Mark."
"Come on, it's okay! Our class set up a baking workshop. You pay to bake your own cake." Mark laughed at the idea but he didn't want to— or rather, he couldn't go against it. It was Renjun who gave out that idea and Jeno, being influential to the class, managed to convince everyone that they would do it for this event. "How about yours?"
"I won't tell you." Donghyuck had no clue why he was keeping it a secret when both of them went back in time, Mark would be able to know what it is.
Humming in a thinking manner, Mark took time to remember the booths. He paused from his tracks when he finally knew what it was. "Don't tell me..."
"A marriage booth, Mark." Donghyuck had disgust painted on his face. He got the ick at how his classmates thought of that idea.
Mark can't help but laugh at how the younger one reacted. "If you hated it so bad then you could have suggested something else."
"I would have if I wasn't too busy being excited about playing soccer." Donghyuck squinted his eyes at the other, "Which you now ruined because you removed me from the list!"
"Hey!" Mark whined in pain when the other one hit him once more from the back. However, he kept a positive outlook at the situation they're in, throwing an arm over the male's shoulders after his tantrum. "But at least we're together now."
"I'm having so much fun, Mark Lee!" Donghyuck sarcastically replied. "The best time of my life."
"You want fun?" Mark smirked the moment an idea came to mind. "Let's put that marriage booth to use."
