ꫂ twenty five
"So... How did you two meet?"
Taking the drink he bought at one of the stalls, Chenle raised a brow at his friend who greeted him with that question. "Meet who?"
"Oh, you know who." Raising his eyebrows up and down, Donghyuck teased him. "Park Jisung."
Chenle almost gagged on his drink. "What... What about him?"
"First meeting, and what was it like?" It sounded like Donghyuck was asking the most obvious question.
"Met him because of tutoring." Because that was the only answer Chenle could give to that question.
Donghyuck might have a hard time with this one. This Chinese friend of his is quite a handful. "And what was it like?"
"I don't know." Sipping his drink, Chenle scanned the area for some snacks. "He's quite stupid."
Well, that was harsh. Donghyuck internally judged his friend's love language. "Hey, you shouldn't—"
"But cute." Chenle continued, cutting him off.
The two of them stopped by a stall that was selling fries. Chenle bought a regular size and also treated his company one. Donghyuck happily took it, satisfied at both the snack and his friend's answer.
"He's also clingy." Chenle shared willingly, roaming around with fries and a drink in hand. "And he gets sulky if I don't give him my attention."
This was the kind of tea that Donghyuck signed up for.
"Which is funny because since when do I ever not give him my attention? It's all on him, especially during tutoring sessions." Chenle trailed off to his thoughts and was walking with that big smile on his face. "The way he scrunches his nose whenever he gets a problem wrong, the way he would pout hearing me explain things to him, and the way how fluffy his hair is. I would always mess with it."
Donghyuck took his friend's drink and sipped on it. Chenle's eyes traveled to him and that's how he snapped back to his senses.
Clearing his throat, Chenle looked away with his cheeks all flushed. "Like I said, he's stupid."
"I don't think that was the only thing you said about him." Donghyuck gave him back his drink, nearing the other upon doing so. "Hey, we're having a marriage booth."
"Yeah, you told me about it—" Chenle paused the moment he realized. "Leave me alone."
"What if I tell you I wrote Jisung name in the list?" Donghyuck knew the only thing that could convince his friend.
"You did?" Shaking his head, Chenle reminded himself to keep his cool. "So, what? Set him up with other people, I couldn't care less."
Liar. He cared a lot.
Donghyuck stopped in front of him. "You won't list your name?"
"The fuck? Why would I? Getting married at a marriage booth is so embarrassing." But there might be (slight) considerations if it's with Jisung.
Impatiently standing there, Donghyuck should've expected that he won't be able to convince his friend by just talking. "You really won't? I'll partner Jisung with someone else."
Chenle screamed internally at how his friend was provoking him. But on the outside, he looked unbothered. "Whatever, do what you want to do."
It's getting frustrating at this point. It was obvious that Chenle wanted to try it out as long as he was going to be paired with this specific someone. Donghyuck knew that he was just being in denial about his feelings. Good thing for the Chinese, he had such an amazing friend that would help him out even if he didn't need any help at all to begin with. That's how Donghyuck self-proclaimed himself.
"Hey, my fries!"
Donghyuck knew using force was the only way in it. Which it was working because Chenle is now running after him for taking his fries.
Meanwhile, Mark was onto Jisung.
"Would you still love Chenle even if he's a worm?"
Jisung flinched from his place the moment he got out of the studio and a certain student that's a year higher than him greeted him with that question. "What the fuck, Mark?"
"Practices are done?" Mark asked, helping him bring his water bottle because the other looked like he's having a hard time putting his clothes inside his bag.
"We'll have another one later at five. How long have you been waiting?" Jisung then gave him a questioning expression.
The moment that he had agreed with Donghyuck's plan, Mark immediately rushed his way to the studio where he knew one of his friends was practicing. That's how long he waited. "Not long."
Jisung shrugged his shoulders, not finding it strange about him being here. "Did you watch Jeno's game? Who did they go up against?"
"Jaemin's team." Well, before arranging the plan and having an agreement, both Mark and Donghyuck first stayed to watch their friends' match. The two of them cheered for both sides even if it wasn't their team. "Renjun was also there to watch with us."
"Renjun?" Jisung found that name familiar because Jeno kept on mentioning him. If he could still remember it well, don't Jaemin also have the hots for the same person? "Who won?"
"Guess." Mark was too embarrassed to announce it to him. Not for his class, but embarrassment towards his friend.
Jisung didn't even have to think much about it, he knew the answer already. "Jaemin's team won."
"What did you expect for Jeno who joined the sport at the last minute?" While remembering how the game went, Mark furrowed his brows with the realization. "Actually, Jeno played okay. It's only when Jaemin is near him."
"Why? How bad is it if Jaemin is there?" Jisung took his water bottle from the other, asking that question before drinking.
Mark was hesitant to tell him, but said it nonetheless. "He'd give the ball to Jaemin."
Not being able to hold it back, Jisung spluttered out the water he was drinking.
That got a reaction from Mark. "That's disgusting, Dude!"
"I knew he was obsessed," Jisung ignored the fact that he made a mess as his attention was on his other friend. "But he's really down bad obsessed. 6-feet down obsessed."
"Yeah," Annoyance visible in his face, Mark still prioritized the plan that he made with Donghyuck. "Like how you are with Chenle."
It was a good thing that Jisung didn't drink his water, he would have spluttered it out the second time around. "What are you talking about? I'm not obsessed with Chenle."
"I'm not obsessed with Chenle." Mark mocked him, pitching his voice high so he'd irritate him more. "Says the person who always talks about him every minute of the day."
"Duh, he's tutoring me in math." Jisung asserted. "Don't you guys want to know how my day went? I'm always with him, of course I'll mention him."
Crossing his arms, Mark raised a brow at him. He was not convinced enough that he had to ask the same question again. "Would you still love him if he's a worm?"
It wasn't a serious topic but Jisung suddenly started to space out with a whipped smile plastered on his face. "Love is such an understatement. I'll turn myself into a worm just to be with him."
And to think Lucas' answer to this question was already exaggerated. Mark's friend was already thinking of being a worm. "I guess that's how you act around the person you're not obsessed with."
Jisung was able to get out of his trance, giving the older one a glare for setting him up. "Tell me, what are you doing here?"
With a bright smile, Mark uttered out with his most convincing tone. "Congratulations! You have been chosen to take part in the marriage booth—"
"Fuck off." Jisung pushed him away.
"Hey! That's mean." Mark went back to trailing from behind, the two of them walking out of the building that they were inside. "Chenle is also there."
The mention of that name made Jisung take a quick turn.
Mark had his brows meet in a questioning manner. "Where are you going?"
"To the marriage booth, where else?"
Unlike Chenle, Jisung was quick to convince and didn't need any effort to drag him to two's plan. He might still be in denial with his feelings for a certain Chinese student, but he can't hold himself back from making the most unbelievable decisions in his life the moment Chenle is included in it. This is why both him and Mark are making their way to the booth flawlessly, without any sweat. Compared to Donghyuck, he looked like he ran an olympic marathon while bringing Chenle's fries with him.
Since they were faster, Donghyuck arrived first, panting and catching for air. And since he had already registered his friend's name, his classmates immediately took Chenle with them when he also arrived looking like he competed for track and field. Donghyuck couldn't help but laugh at how his friend was cursing at him while being dressed up for this event.
With Chenle being positioned in the middle of the altar, he raised his hand and threatened Donghyuck to hit him. However, the latter was already in his seat while waiting for the ceremony to start.
Just in time, Mark and Jisung arrived at the venue with the younger one puzzled at how a specific someone is already by the altar.
"Who is he getting married to?" Jisung had to ask, disappointment visible in the tone of his voice.
Before Mark could even open his mouth to explain, one of the organizers for the booth had already called their attention.
"The groom is here, Park Jisung!"
Giving his friend a look, Jisung felt betrayed that he wasn't even informed that he is the partner that they set up for the Chinese student. For a moment there he was ready to break down to tears and already planned a move on schedule for himself. Mark only gave him an awkward smile before pushing the younger one to take a step on the aisle.
Jisung didn't even have enough time to react and process everything inside his head. Not to mention, he's walking down the aisle in his sweatshirt and sweatpants from practice and a duffle bag that had his things in it. The once empty booth became crowded with other students stopping by to see the event happening.
Coincidentally, two soccer players alongside a Chinese transfer student also passed by the area and got curious to what the commotion is all about.
"I thought Chenle was a handful." Mark sat next to Donghyuck as he watched their friends have their moment. "How did you convince him?"
"Love, it was hell." Donghyuck complained. "By the way, want fries?"
Mark let out a laugh, already guessing how the other managed to force his friend to join. His eyes then scanned the area and a group caught his attention. "Look, the three of them are here."
Donghyuck followed the direction to where he's looking and had a mischievous smile plastered on his face. "Hey, I have another idea."
Taking the male's fries, Mark munched on it with a smirk on his face. "Way ahead of you."
"We are all gathered here today to witness a loving ceremony between the couple; Park Jisung and Zhong Chenle."
Jisung was finally standing right in front of the Chinese at the altar, hands inside his pocket and eyes looking away from being flustered. Chenle was also avoiding eye contact, biting his lower lip to distract himself from how awkward their situation is right now.
"This is so embarrassing." Jisung initiated the conversation first, "This probably is Mark's idea."
"I'm pretty sure Donghyuck also agreed with it." Their topic eased the tension between them, making Chenle giggle.
"Are you okay?" Asking him, Jisung genuinely wanted to know if the other was comfortable in the situation they were in.
"All eyes are on us, Ji." But Chenle didn't seem to be nervous because of the person he is with.
"And mine is on you." Jisung told him, trying to shoot his shot.
That caused Chenle to get flustered, his cheeks turning bright red. "Hey, since when are you good with sweet words?"
"The idea of us getting married is getting to me." Rubbing his nape, Jisung looked away, getting shy.
"I'm glad," Chenle said, bringing his hand up and making the other face him. "Because it's also getting to me."
If it was possible for his heart to come out of his chest, Jisung was afraid that it would happen because of how fast his heart is thumping. While the ceremony was on-going, the two felt like they were the only ones there. They could only see each other and had each other's comfort despite how crowded the area had become.
"Do you, Zhong Chenle, take Park Jisung as your—"
And Jisung got into the moment they're having rather than the fake wedding ceremony. "Le, I like you."
"Uhh..." Chenle internally panicked and didn't know what for. Is it because of the ceremony or is it because of how someone confessed to him in front of everyone?
"I... I don't know how to explain it." Jisung began to ramble, still not noticing that he paused the ceremony. "I like the feeling of liking you. I just really like you, a lot. More than I can describe."
Hearing him made Chenle push his worried thoughts aside. Fuck it. He didn't care if there were people watching them. "Ji, the feeling is mutual."
"Oh..." But Jisung wasn't confident enough to accept it. "You like tutoring me in math?"
"Dumbass," He really is stupid, but that's what got Chenle interested in him in the first place. "I like you too, more than a lot. More than you think I do."
Despite that this wasn't the flow that they had practiced, everyone cheered nonetheless and screamed their lungs out. Mark and Donghyuck looked at each other and smiled in fulfillment. They were successful in setting the two up and also got them to finally confess their feelings towards each other. The organizers of the booth then threw flower petals around as a signal to the host for the highlight of the show.
With everyone still going crazy, the host cleared his throat to get the couple's attention. "You may now kiss... your groom."
That made everyone get louder than before. Their booth was catching attention from other students who just arrived and the crowd became larger than before.
However, that didn't stop Jisung from being happy. He then leaned forward and gave Chenle a kiss on the forehead, knowing his boundaries even if they had mutual feelings towards each other.
Donghyuck wiped the tear that rolled down from his eyes, remembering the actual wedding that his friends had. "This is so beautiful."
"Hey," Mark poked him by the shoulder, "Let's write the three."
Having fun, Donghyuck let out a laugh and stood up with Mark as they made their way to where the registration was. Both of them felt giddy lining up to write their friends' names. Seems like Donghyuck isn't mad anymore that he can't play his sport, he was having the time of his life hanging out with Mark and enjoying the event with him.
"The next couple, Lee Donghyuck and Mark Lee, please come here in front!"
So much for having fun setting their friends up.
