the end
"Le, can you pick Chan up too?" Donghyuck got back inside the house, placing the keys of their car down the coffee table by the living room before making his way up the stairs.
"I swear to God, Lee Donghyuck." His friend that he's in a call with began to cuss him out. "If you and Mark are doing the tango—"
"What the actual fuck." Donghyuck sternly responded. "Chan wants to have an ice cream date with Jiro! You can't leave the kids alone, Chenle."
"But you can?" The Chinese friend let out a scoff. "Just admit it. You'll be busy later with Mark, and you want me to babysit your son for the night."
"I'll be busy." Donghyuck buried his face down to his palms at how creative his friend's imagination could get. "It's my son's birthday, Le! I have to prepare the decorations!"
"Oh." Chenle was quick to be silenced by that reason. It didn't take him long to defend himself until he stood correct. "You can't blame me for being traumatized."
"That was one time, Chenle." Donghyuck fumbled with the keys inside his pockets, forgetting the fact that he didn't lock the door to his shared room with his husband. Clicking his tongue, he twisted the door knob and got inside the room to change into his clothes. "One time."
"It still happened!" Chenle insisted before deciding to help with the plan for the little boy's party. "Fine."
"Stay for dinner later too. I also told Jaemin about it already." Donghyuck's eyes traveled to the bed which had his husband sleeping soundly, making him tip-toe his way to the cabinet to get some clothes. "Join us in celebrating his birthday."
"Yeah, yeah. I know he'd also love to have Jiro around." Chenle fought the urge to laugh at the idea of his own son having someone like his rude and snobbish personality. "Alright, then. I'll call you again later."
"Thanks, Le." With that, Donghyuck ended the call before proceeding to the bathroom to change his clothes.
The sound of water running caused Mark to turn his body to the other side and throw his arm over the space next to him. It took him a good while to notice that there was no one laying down next to him. Mark had to pat the pillows and sheets thinking that his husband had moved farther away from the bed, only to realize that he was the only one occupying it.
The absence of his husband's presence forced Mark to flutter his eyes open. While adjusting to the sunlight flashing inside their room, he realized that the sound of water came from the bathroom. He then guessed that Donghyuck might be preparing to bring their son to school.
"Sunshine?" He called out with a worn out voice.
Mark then let out an exhausted yawn, stretching his arms out and taking a whole minute to convince his body to move. He reached for his phone by the bedside table to check the time— only to be fully awakened by it.
Donghyuck, on the other hand, got out of the bathroom after taking a warm bath. He was drying his hair with a towel, puzzled at the sight that greeted him. His husband was running around in circles, getting clothes from their wardrobe and throwing it on the bed. Mark was making a mess this early, and the clutter annoyed Donghyuck.
"Love, what are you doing?" Donghyuck asked in a composed manner, cleaning the mess that his husband made. Folding each of the clothes one by one.
"Do you know what time it is?!" Mark raised his voice in panic, still finding the suit that he wanted to wear today for work. "Where is Chan?!"
"I..." Donghyuck was taken aback by the tone of his voice. He then decided to shrug it off and not get affected by it. "I took him to school already. You were sound asleep."
"You didn't wake me up!" Mark responded in an aggressive manner, showing his frustration at the situation he is in.
Donghyuck sat on the bed to continue folding the shirts. He remained his composure just as not to escalate the situation. "Well, yeah, you look tired. You've been busy this week. I thought you needed the rest—"
Mark was quick to cut him off while being in the middle of wearing his slacks and polo. "I'm late!"
Donghyuck wasn't able to keep his calm demeanor for too long as he also had a prideful ego. He didn't want anyone cutting him off in the middle of explaining, much more in being shouted at. "Sorry! Sorry because I thought of your health. Sorry, I only thought of taking care of you just because you don't know how to take care of yourself!"
"Damn it." Mark mumbled under his breath, clasping the buttons from his polo before scanning the room for his watch. "I could have sworn I set an alarm."
"I turned it off." Donghyuck admitted, getting a look from his husband because of what he did. "Because you came home late, Mark! You could use more sleep."
"I have a meeting today!" Mark began to grumble incoherent words. He knew his husband had a good intention, but sometimes it's best to leave things be.
Donghyuck decided to shut his mouth up, sulking by the bed as he finished folding the clothes and organizing it at the edge. Mark was still standing by the closet, busy getting ready for work. Donghyuck didn't want to get in the way, thus staying put on the bed, arms folded across his chest and his gaze boring holes through his husband's soul.
They were at it again.
Arguing.
Mark couldn't help but let out a deep sigh after noticing the tension between them. He was able to calm his temper down, not having a hard time doing so. Ever since the incident of waking up from that nightmare, Mark actually learned a thing or two about it. The most important thing was locking up his temper. He usually doesn't raise his voice and burst out in frustration just like now— maybe Donghyuck was right.
Maybe work is really getting to his nerves that Mark can't think clearly because of how occupied his head is with his job.
"Love, where's my tie?" Mark then initiated to break the ice between them.
Donghyuck stayed petty. "Just there."
No one could blame Donghyuck for acting that way. Did Mark actually not learn a thing or two in going back in time? Donghyuck scoffed at his own thoughts. He couldn't believe that he had hopes for their relationship to be better. Well, it technically did get better. They were more understanding this time around, and they communicated more with their problems.
It's just only at times like this that either of them would let their emotions get the best of them that they would forget to talk about it first.
"Love, look at me." Mark tried his best to sound as gentle as possible.
"Use your eyes, Mark! Not your mouth." When Donghyuck turned to face him, he saw the specific cloth that his husband had been searching for. "There! At the chair."
Mark knew it wouldn't be easy to charm his husband back after he had just raised his voice at him. He then clipped his mouth shut to avoid more conflicts between them. By this time, going to work was the least of his concern. He didn't want to leave the house with a partner who was in a bad mood.
Donghyuck glanced at his husband standing by the body mirror and saw him struggling with his tie. He fought the urge to help him, but his body had to move on its own like it's some-kind of muscle memory to fix his lover's tie.
Mark moved a step back, giving way for his husband to stand in front of him. He was taken aback by the latter pushing his hand away, insisting to do his tie for him.
Mark took this opportunity to wrap his arms around the male's waist. "Donghyuck, I'm sorry."
"You can't even do it properly." Donghyuck could only comment about his husband not being able to do simple things.
Meanwhile, Mark's goal was to keep on apologizing and show how regretful he is. "I'm really sorry, Sunshine."
Donghyuck rolled his eyes in annoyance, finishing his job in helping him out but couldn't seem to move away because he had his husband holding him by his waist. "Done."
"Love, I'm sorry for shouting at you." Mark repeated the same apology.
Even though they can't escape the stage where they had to quarrel, Donghyuck noticed that Mark would be the first one to apologize after. That was something not being done before.
Sighing, Donghyuck had to admit that he was also at fault for being easily influenced with his husband's temper. "It's okay. I'm sorry for turning your alarm off."
"Fuck work anyway." Mark tried to ease the tension by being witty.
It indeed made his lover let out a soft laugh. "Didn't you say you have a meeting?"
And speaking of meeting, Mark's phone then began to ring, disturbing the moment these two had. With a pout, Mark had to let go of his husband and rush to the bedside table to answer the call coming from a workmate.
"Jeno?" Mark made a gesture to his husband that he's on a call.
A certain friend from the other line raised his voice on the phone. "Where on earth are you, Mark Lee?!"
"Are they all there? Fuck." Mark ran a hand through his hair as it still looked like a bird's nest, also loosening his tie.
Well, that was such a sight to see for Donghyuck.
"We are just waiting for you. The meeting is about to start." Jeno was losing his cool as he began to panic. "You're the one that's supposed to report our data analysis for this month."
"I'll be..." Mark widened his eyes when he saw Donghyuck standing in front of him with that innocent gaze. "I might be..."
"Mark?!"
"Hmm..." Mark had to bite down a moan when he felt a pair of lips touching his neck. He then noticed Donghyuck unclasping the buttons on his shirt, making him take down a gulp.
"I swear to God, Mark Lee. I'm throwing hands!" Jeno cussed out. Frustration was evident in his tone.
"Jeno... I'm sick." Mark reasoned out after being pushed down to the bed, having his lover straddling him on top.
"I'm sick too, Mark." Jeno clicked his tongue. "Sick and tired of your bullshit."
Donghyuck let out a laugh while burying his face on Mark's shoulder, not able to stay silent any longer. It's always entertaining to watch his husband and his friends get to a friendly fight.
"Donghyuck?" Jeno now had his jaw dropped, now realizing what was going on. "Oh, God. Don't tell me I'll be the one to fill your spot in the meeting."
Just as Mark was about to defend himself in the situation he was in, he was cut off by Donghyuck who smashed their lips together. They began to make out while still having Jeno complain on the line.
"And here I thought you guys are still fighting!" A scoff of disbelief was heard from the man on the phone.
Oh, they are definitely fighting. Their lips are.
"You two are going to be the death of me." Jeno uttered out.
With Mark disregarding his phone beside him and beginning planting kisses on his husband's collarbone the moment he switched their positions, Donghyuck felt the need to reply to his lover's friend instead. "Thanks, Jeno! We'll prepare for Chan's birthday. Stay over for dinner! "
"Prepare for another baby sibling." Jeno remarked, baffled at the situation he had just witnessed on the phone. "Whatever. Mark owes me on this one."
Mark didn't get to retaliate at his friend's statement when the call ended immediately. He then propped himself on top of Donghyuck, getting a clear glimpse of that smirk on his husband's face.
"Such a tease." Mark told him. His efforts for looking decent all went to waste when the other male had to mess up his hair and take off his buttoned polo.
"At least I got you excused from work." Donghyuck said, giving him an innocent smile. "You can help me decorate for Chan's party later!"
The reminder of their son's special day got Mark to show a sulking expression. "You didn't even wake me up so I could greet him."
"You can always do that later, Love." Donghyuck told him, reassuring him that it's not a big deal to worry about. "You need to rest."
"Are we going to rest?" Mark asked, having a different kind of intention with that question.
Donghyuck gasped, giving him a light smack by the arm. "I'll have to start decorating the living room!"
Mark then remembered an inside joke between them, making him bring it up. "10 minutes?"
"Mark Lee." Donghyuck warned him with his tone, as if he wasn't the one who first teased him while still being on a call with a friend.
"Or 30 minutes?" Mark gave him a mischievous grin.
Donghyuck wasn't able to resist his charm, making him throw his arms over his husband's shoulders and pull him back down with their faces inches apart. "I guess I'll have to start after lunch."
If there's one thing that both of them learned from the past, it's make up and then make out.
Kidding. All jokes aside, there were a lot of things they were grateful about in the past. May it be the past that they really had, or the past that they recently shared. One thing's for sure, they definitely learned a lesson. Both of them didn't want to start over again with anyone, they only wanted each other. Even if they knew they were each other's hell, they will have to go through it.
They still wanted each other for better and for worse.
Even if they'd go through the same shit over and over again, they would still find a way to once again fall back in love.
the end.
