Shikamaru was used to training with Hinata. Even since they were genin thanks to the budding romance between Asuma and Kurenai the two teams often found themselves training and doing missions together.

His alarm bells have been ringing all morning. He's learned to trust his instincts after years of being a shinobi so as soon as he woke up all he wanted to do was get Naruto, Temari, Hinata, and Lee and put them under his sight. Sadly he couldn't do that. For now.

He thinks that Hinata has felt his tenseness because she's turned on her Byakugan and hasn't let it fall since they have sparred.

Then it happened. Shikamaru and Hinata just started to spar again when black marking went up to his arm and burned red. At this point, everyone's eyes stopped and looked at him. Shikamaru's heart froze.

" T-that's Naruto's panic seal" Hinata whispered and Shikamaru unfroze.

" Hinata go get Lee, I'll go first," Shikamaru ordered. The tone of authority used was familiar in sense, but worrying all the same. After all the last time he spoke like this was leading a suicide team into an enemy base, for the good of the alliance.

But right now his brother needed him. In everything but blood, through grief, training, and scars Naruto was his brother, the same way Hinata and Lee grew closer through the death of Neji.

Shikamaru has seen the darkest part of being a Ninja. He's thrived in it, and he'll do whatever it takes to make sure that Naruto stays in the light. Because even if he still doesn't see it Naruto is the light in the lives of so many people.

So as Shikamaru approached the door of the apartment feeling the seal allowing only certain people in he lit a cigarette that he nicked from Asuma and a rueful smile. Determination glazing through his eyes. Kunai in hand and he opened the door.

Hinata pushed her worries and the dark voice in her head around. Shikamaru was there, Naruto would be fine.

Memories pushed through her mind of a broken Naruto, Sakura and Tsunade working for days stitching him back, them coming out every hour blood smeared across their cloaks.

Sasuke in the next room, later passing away from the lack of his internal organs.

Both taken down by a combined effort of the resurrected Kages, Obito, and Madera.

She made her way to the training grounds panting, after all, she wasn't used to running so much in her younger body.

Everyone's eyes were on her before she felt the fears of losing Naruto hit her full force. 

" Naruto.... His panic seal.... Shikamaru" She said as she began to tremble. 

Kakashi stood up along with the rest of team seven. Lee instantly was on his feet. 

" What did Shikamaru say," He asked and Hinata finally caught their breath. 

" He went first to check it out, he wants us to follow as a backup in case it's... something happening too soon," Hinata said covering up the last part of her sentence looking at Lee. She saw her cousin look confused and looked away. 

"Let's go," Lee said but before he could move Kakashi put his hand on Lee's shoulder. 

" What happened to Naruto," he asked forcefully. A little too forcefully in Hinata's opinion. 

" I think that is none of your business," Hinata said calmly and Kakashi's eyes drilled into her.

 Fighting back a flinch her returned his gaze. In the past, she would have met it with a glare of her own but in her 12-year-old body she still felt fear, she had her old mindset of being the weak Huyga princess. The meek girl that couldn't meet anyone's eyes and mumbled out her words. 

" He's my student" Kakashi leveled and Lee detached himself from Kakashi. 

" And he is my brother in everything but blood, now we can stand here and wait or we can check on him, please take your time" Lee smiled and Hinata held back a sigh. 

Why must everyone make everything so complicated? Next time Shikamaru can deal with this. Hinata along with Lee sped off in the direction of Naruto's old apartment with Guy and Kakashi following them. 

It was eary quiet there was no sound in the room. 

" I can't even hear breathing and the creeks of the apartment, it's impossible," Kakashi said and Hinata gasped and felt along the wall and door until she found it. 

Pulling the false paper from the wall she took a step back. 

" Silence seal, along with a barrier seal, and a disruption seal," Lee said. 

Just then a seal on Lee's arm pushed up. Quickly biting his thumb at the exclamation of Guy he swiped the blood on the seal. 

" Shikamaru," He said and footsteps were heard from the seal. Everyone's eyes widened. 

" I've never seen a seal that could do that" Guy said. 

" Lee are you and Hinata here," Shikamaru said and Lee hummed in agreement. 

" Yeah what's going on," Lee asked. 

" Just get in here, and I hear other people there don't let them in," Shikamaru said and the static cut off. 

" If you think that I am not barging in there after that your nuts," Kakashi said and Hinata sighed.

 " You just saw the barrier seal, have some faith in the next generation," Hinata said and opened the door, feeling petty she waved him goodbye as the was repelled by the barrier and closed the door. 

" Really," Shikamaru asked melting out of the shadows with a pale Naruto in his arms. 

" What happened?" Lee said as Hinata quickly tried to check over the pale and sweating Naruto, whose eyes were shut and mouth was forced into a grimace. 

" He was already like this when I came in. It's Tsukuyomi" Shikamaru said. 

" Itachi?" Hinata asked pale. 

" No," Shikamaru said and walked to the wall before pulling off a piece of wallpaper. 

There was a list of people including the four of them and others. 

" Another aspect of the barrier seal is that it tracks every who enters the room, Danzo," Shikamaru said and Hinata felt her blood boil, Lee started to curse and Shikamaru said. 

" We'll either have to wait for the foreign chakra to leave Naruto's body which can take up to months or get Tsunade or Itachi to remove the chakra," Shikamaru said and flipped through a black notebook that was on the shelf. 

 " You guys know that we were supposed to come a month and a half earlier to the past right?" He asked and Hinata voiced her confirmation. 

" According to Naruto's notes, a lot more chakra was taken from him than he wanted or than we needed," Shikamaru said. 

" You took the calculations yourself Shikamaru, down to the exact amount of chakra from every person, how could we have arrived a month late, and also had more chakra stolen from us," Lee asked. 

" Good theory, I made a mistake in the calculations," Shikamaru said and Hinata snorted. There was little to no way.

" Bad theory .... Someone came back in time with us"
