The Romance Cliche

ok.

I like romantic gestures as much as the next girl.

Who doesnt like a good love story.

But can we stop making it the focal point of EVERY YA NOVEL EVER I MEAN COME ON

NO ONE MEETS THEIR SOUL MATE AT 16

im so sick of the whole going on a journey and falling in love shtick. It's soooo old.

I mean, yeah ok so you fall in love on your way to save the world.

But remember that the point of the journey was to save the world, not fuck each other.

In reality, these types of books make us focus so much on romance and beautiful people falling in love, that not only do they make us, young minds, shortsighted in our search for a true partner, but they also make finding love the only goal in life.

Many of us end up seeking it out because the main theme in our favorite novels is just teen love.

It's a terrible example, because along with the theme of romance comes themes that throw out logic, that invite emotion.

It teaches irresponsibility, on the whim that "you should follow your heart and life will find you" kind of thing.

anyway.

It's alright to have romance, but please tone it down and focus on the story rather than the relationship.
